Chapter 137 - Discipline
Chapter 137 - Discipline
Usually, commander Ruvyn wouldn't stop attacking and lose the flow of the battle that they had in their hands. Still, since those guys were obviously bad news, he had to make use of some caution. For the first time since the start of the battle, Ruvyn saw his men being forced to retreat since the mercenaries were starting to like the fight thanks to those five men. He had to kill at least one of them… but even if he has the chance to fight one of them, it won't be easy.
At first, those five had planned just to boost the morale of the mercenaries since it was too soon for them to fight. Still, then Elmar, the man who killed Verkan, changed his mind when a spear flew in his direction at an insane speed, and he barely had enough time to dodge it. Looking in the direction the spear came from, Elmar saw the weird boy that escaped with his spear in his hands.
"All right…" Elius said and then sighed. "It seems we still need to do something with your lack of discipline. We will spend a lot of time fixing this bad of attitude of yours in the battlefield."
On the battlefield, there was no room for small confrontations or duels. The things at stake were beyond the problems two men had against each other. At first, Elius imagined that the enemy general would ignore that. Still, much to his surprise, he began to move toward Zaos, naturally, without leaving his men behind. Zaos's actions just changed the flow of the battle in a weird way, and Elius had no idea how much that will affect the entire battlefield. However, when he looked at commander Ruvyn, he noticed that he wanted to capitalize from that. Elmar really looked a cut above the other generals, so that was a good chance to kill him.
The only problem was that Elmar was more interested in Zaos than in the army commander. If they wanted to lure the enemy in order to defeat him, they would have to use Zaos, and if they're going to decrease the morale of the enemies' army, they will have to use Zaos too. If a kid that young defeats the enemy general… it will cause a massive impact on the enemies' side. But if he were to fail, the Sielders family would lose their only known heir… Ruvyn decided to take that risk.
"Where is my spear, boy?" Elmar asked.
"Maybe it's up your ass," Zaos said. "I am sure that if you look carefully, you will find it."
"It seems someone has a death wish," Elmar said. "I owe you more than a little bit for stealing my favorite weapon and for killing so many of my men, so you should feel honored that I am going to dispose of you."
"Oh, I sure am," Zaos said while showing a calm smile.
Even though he didn't have a horse, the moment was perfect. Once Elmar approached with his horse, Zaos was going to break his legs and then charge before Elmar could fall to finish the job. Even someone as experienced as him won't be able to perfectly protect himself while falling and if Zaos goes all out…
However, much to Zaos' surprise, Elmar jumped from his horse. Since that spear was identical to the other one, it was only natural that it would have the same effects. Most likely, he couldn't use that speed that the weapon could offer on a horse… perhaps all that crap he said about fighting on equal ground with Arlen was just bullshit to make him drop his guard a little bit.
Some soldiers charged toward Elmar when he began to walk toward Zaos, but the general naturally didn't approach alone. Several mercenaries followed him, and they also seemed a cut above the other generals. They easily repelled the charge by using a spear wall.
"That guy is no joke and it seems his weapon is special," Elius said. "Do you think you can handle him?"
"With some luck, yes?" Zaos replied.
"The commander wants you to deal with him," Elius whispered. "Meanwhile, I will help the commander with the other generals, so try to stall for time as much as possible."
"Understood," Zaos said.
Zaos wouldn't let the enemy have the first strike, so he held his sword tightly and then swung it when the entire blade was covered in flames. As if he had seen that before, Elmar dashed toward Zaos with his inhuman speed, but he reacted fast enough and made the flames fly toward the enemies in an arc. The wall of spearmen began to burn, but Elmar repelled the flames by branding his spear. After that, he tried to pierce Zaos's head with his weapon. His first instinct had been to stop the attack by using earth magic and strengthen his face with it, but he couldn't risk it if the enemy aimed at his eyes or something. Zaos raised his sword at the last minute and blocked the attack, but not before his body could tremble head from toe to the sheer power of the attack.
"You have good eyes and gut, boy," Elmar said.
"I can't say the same about yours, but I will see your guts soon enough," Zaos said and then cast Wind Sword on Elmar.
Elmar noticed that something was off with the air around him, so he quickly stepped backward before he could get hit by the magic projectile. Zaos assumed that he wouldn't be able to dodge an attack on his body while he was that close. Still, it seemed he had underestimated the enemy… Zaos had to fire the Wind Sword, but once again, Elmar dispersed the attack by branding his spear.
"I have to do something about that spear. I don't have confidence that I will be able to stop him if he uses the same attack pattern he used to defeat Arlen…" Zaos thought. "Or, I can…
