An Xiaxia didn’t want to watch anymore. The mother and daughter were like a pair of dogs tearing at each other’s throats.

The police soon arrived to take Chu Zhiyun away. She screamed, cursed, and hit the police on her way out, as if she was trapped in some frenzied state.

The general meeting ended up a farce.

Many trimmed their sails. Seeing that it was over for Chu Zhiyun, they circled An Xiaxia right away.

“Miss Song has both looks and brains. Mr. Song must have been so happy to have a daughter like you!”

“Miss Song, may I have the honor of inviting you to my youngest daughter’s coming-of-age party?”

“Miss Song, I have this investment proposition I’d like to discuss with you...”

“...”

An Xiaxia felt that her head was going to explode. She knew perfectly well that these people were fawning over her not because they meant what they said, but only because with Chu Zhiyun gone, she was the No. 1 heiress of the Song Group.

Sheng Yize came to her rescue in time. Taking her hand, he ignored all those people and led her out of the room.

After getting into the car, Sheng Yize held her face in his hands and smiled. “Do you like this New Year present I prepared for you?”

He had dug up Chu Zhiyun’s old records after some painstaking effort. An Yibei had then had a breakthrough in the case, and had carried out a lengthy investigation which eventually led to the outright victory today.

He was now able to offer her the Song family’s business empire on the palms of his hands.

An Xiaxia rubbed her face against his palms and said wearily, “I’m just... exhausted.”

She had never wanted a deceptive and tumultuous life like this.

Sheng Yize paused for a brief moment, then rubbed her head. “You don’t have to do anything you don’t want. I’ll find some professionals to run the company for you. You can just sit at home and be rich.”

“Great.” An Xiaxia smiled a little.

Knock, knock —

There was a tap on the window.

An Xiaxia rolled the window down to find An Yibei standing outside. He raised his chin and said in his usual haughty tone, “Now that’s settled. I’m off. I have another case.”

“Hey, Brother, wait!” An Xiaxia called after him. “Dad’s been calling me, complaining about you not having a girlfriend. You’re in your thirties already. Are you going to stay single for the rest of your life?”

“I’m in no rush for that.” An Yibei checked his watch and said indifferently, “I’m running late.”

“But I’m in a rush!” Papa An had been nagging her, asking her to talk to An Yibei.

An Yibei smiled a little. “What do you call the passenger that keeps giving the driver instructions again?”

“A backseat driver!” An Xiaxia answered without hesitation.

“Exactly.” An Yibei strode off and was soon out of sight.

An Xiaxia only realized it then and turned to Sheng Yize in grievance. “He just called me a backseat driver!”

Sheng Yize couldn’t help but smile. “I see you’re not so dumb after all.”

“You’re laughing at me, too!” An Xiaxia was frustrated. “I’m going to stop loving you for five minutes!”

His little wife was probably the only one that could come up with such an adorable threat.

Still smiling, Sheng Yize started the car and headed back home. They reached an intersection five minutes later. The light was red and Sheng Yize stopped the car. He pecked An Xiaxia on the cheek and said, “It’s been five minutes. You can love me now.”

“I don’t like you!!” An Xiaxia put her palms over her cheeks. Sheng Yize smiled. “How about we do something tonight... that will make you like me again?”
