Chapter 227 - Life Is Like A Play

Chapter 227: Life Is Like A Play

When Luo Xiuxiu heard that Sheng An’ning was still weak, she felt her heart ache and wiped away her tears.

“Then, let’s keep her here overnight. There’s no need to rush for discharge.”

“Alright, you may go in to see the patient now. Remember to take care of her emotions, be sure not to let her have too great of a mood swing. It would affect her recovery otherwise.”

After explanation, the doctor walked away hastily.

The entire Jiang family entered the ward immediately. Sheng An’ning was lying down inside and there was a nurse changing the intravenous bottle.

Sheng An’ning was half leaning against the wall. Her pretty face was now ghastly pale. Jiang Haoxuan’s heart ached tremendously looking at her pale look.

It was all Su Wan’s fault. If not for her, how would An’ning have used such a resolute method to prove her innocence?

When the nurse saw them entering, she nodded. After changing the intravenous bottle, she left the ward to give the family some personal space.

Luo Xiuxiu looked on with tears in her eyes. She stretched out her trembling old hand to touch Sheng An’ning’s pale cheeks.

“An’ning, how are you feeling?”

Sheng An’ning seemed to be in a trance. The minute since Jiang Xuecheng came in, her eyes were fixed on him.

Although Luo Xiuxiu was talking to her, she did not shift her eyes but instead continued looking infatuatedly at Jiang Xuecheng. She bit her lips slightly, as if she wanted to say something.

Luo Xiuxiu looked at Sheng An’ning and her heart ached.

Although she knew Sheng An’ning had gone too extreme in this matter, the thought of her being in this state made her feel rather distressed.

“An’ning, don’t be afraid. Say what you want. Grandmother is here.”

Sheng An’ning raised her head and looked at Jiang Xuecheng’s cold face. Her eyes were teary.

“Brother Xuecheng, it really wasn’t me. I didn’t do it. I’ve never intended to harm Sis-in-Law. Brother Xuecheng, you must believe me...”

Sheng An’ning’s beautiful voice was now extremely hoarse with unhidden sobs, probably because of the perfume she drank.

This kind of weak and delicate beauty aroused one’s sympathy.

Su Wan saw the seniors of the Jiang family surrounding Sheng An’ning’s bed and felt a sudden pain in her eyes.

Su Wan pursed her lips without talking and her eyes dulled while her palms were clenched up slightly.

As expected, life was like a play. Did this all depend on acting?

Could one who had done something vicious win the sympathy of others just by feigning weakness?

Jiang Xuecheng’s sharp eyes glared at Sheng An’ning. There was no sympathy in his eyes.

“Do you mean to say that the identification report of Zhao Hua Hospital is fake?”

Sheng An’ning looked at Jiang Xuecheng helplessly and she grasped the blanket on her body with her delicate fingers.

“I don’t know but I really did no such thing...”

Sheng An’ning crying look made Jiang Xuecheng look fiercer. Jiang Zhiyuan darted Jiang Xuecheng a glance and frowned as he rebuked.

“That’s enough, the doctor said to let An’ning rest. Are all of you trying to prevent her from getting better soon by arguing?”

Jiang Xuecheng looked at his grandfather. The veins on his hand were obvious. “Grandfather, do you mean we should forget about the incident where An’ning tried to harm Wan Wan with the perfume?”

Jiang Zhiyuan’s face relaxed but his eyes were still very sharp.

“The perfume is gone now. With only the report as proof, there isn’t enough evidence. This matter has ruined relationships. You and An’ning should each take one step back.”

Jiang Xuecheng looked at Jiang Zhiyuan coldly. When Luo Xiuxiu saw the grandfather and grandson in a tense situation, she sighed and immediately came in between them.

“Alright, don’t get angry. This is the hospital and it should be quiet.”

Su Wan tugged Jiang Xuecheng’s sleeves gently, signaling to him not to argue with his grandfather anymore.

This matter had put Jiang Zhiyuan in a difficult position. As the leader of the family, he was sandwiched in the middle just like a sandwich biscuit.

Su Wan was even glad that Sheng An’ning was alive. If anything bad were to happen to Sheng An’ning, she was not sure what would happen to Jiang Haoxuan and her life might not be easy.

Now, she had at least discovered a person to guard against. It was not a bad thing.

Sheng An’ning who was lying on the bed saw the argument between Jiang Zhiyuan and Jiang Xuecheng. Her thoughts kept changing. She felt Jiang Zhiyuan was not genuinely defending her.

However, from Jiang Zhiyuan’s attitude, she could at least see that she still had a foothold in the Jiang family in the future. She knew she had made a right move.

If she had not gotten in this state, the perfume and the identification report of Zhao Hua Hospital would both become evidence and she was afraid her position in the Jiang family would drop tremendously.

Jiang Xuecheng pursed his lips. He walked coldly toward Sheng An’ning and a cold smile appeared on his lips.

“You’d better not cross the line in the future. If you were to do something else, you may not be as lucky as you are today.”

Meeting that pair of eyes which were as cold as ice, Sheng An’ning couldn’t help shrinking toward the wall behind her. Her face was pale and she had a pathetic and innocent look.

“Brother Xuecheng, you’ve misunderstood me.”

Jiang Xuecheng stared at Sheng An’ning’s pretty face and suddenly felt this woman to be so unfamiliar that he felt terrified.

“You know best if it was a misunderstanding.”

Throwing out this sentence, Jiang Xuecheng walked towards Su Wan and said softly, “Wan Wan, we’ve seen enough drama. Let’s go.”

Su Wan nodded politely toward the seniors in the room and said, “Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, Mother, Xuecheng and I will make a move first. Goodbye.”

Then, Jiang Xuecheng and Su Wan held hands and left.

After they left, a mist appeared in Sheng An’ning’s elegant and beautiful eyes. She stared blankly at the ceiling and her fists were tightly clenched under the blanket.

She hated it—hated that she was not the woman standing beside Jiang Xuecheng.

Luo Xiuxiu and Jiang Zhiyuan were old and could not stay in the ward for too long. Jiang Wei, on the other hand, had something to attend to the next day. So, the three of them left together.

The only ones left in the ward were Jiang Haoxuan, Sheng An’ning, and Xu Ziyao.

Xu Ziyao found an excuse get her younger son leave the ward.

When Sheng An’ning saw Xu Ziyao who was as calm as still waters, she had an inexplicable fear. Initially, she thought Xu Ziyao would ask her about the poisonous perfume but she was wrong.

“An’ning, you still like Xuecheng, don’t you?”

Sheng An’ning was taken aback and knew she couldn’t hide this from anyone. So, she admitted.

“Aunty, I know it isn’t right. Brother Xuecheng is married. I’ll try to make myself not like him.”

Xu Ziyao stared at Sheng An’ning quietly with a calm face.

“The fastest way to forget a person is to find another one. You know Haoxuan likes you. I’m going to get you two married as soon as possible.”
