Chapter 383: Something Was Wrong With Him
Was Jiang Xuecheng indirectly rejecting her?
The reason given was that it was not good to stay up late...?
Although she had guessed that Jiang Xuecheng was not interested in the things that girls liked, Su Wan could not help but feel a little frustrated at this moment.
She picked up a piece of beef with ginger sauce and then looked up at Jiang Xuecheng. She still did not want to miss this rare opportunity to observe the stars.
Su Wan blinked her round eyes. The dimples on her cheeks were shallow, making her look extremely likable.
“Try this rib. It’s crispy and tender. It’s especially refreshing.”
Soon, Jiang Xuecheng’s plate was filled with two pieces of pork ribs.
Jiang Xuecheng looked at Su Wan with an enigmatic look. The smile on his lips was faint, which made Su Wan a little nervous.
“Try it...”
Su Wan was not good at pleasing people, so she felt a little guilty. She quickly picked up another piece of crab and began to deshell it for Jiang Xuecheng.
“Steamed crab is delicious and nutritious. Try one?”
She looked at Jiang Xuecheng with a smile and stuffed the deshelled crab into Jiang Xuecheng’s bowl.
Jiang Xuecheng glanced at the mountain-like food in the bowl and put down his chopsticks. His eyes were fixed on Su Wan’s bright smile.
The crystal lamp hanging high in the sky gave off a brilliant light, but it could not compete to Su Wan’s bright smile.
“Do you want to see the meteor shower so badly? Don’t you think it’s childish?”
When Jiang Xuecheng managed to read Su Wan’s mind, Su Wan still sat up straight without blushing. The dimples on her cheeks were as beautiful as dewdrops.
“Although it’s childish, it’s very romantic!”
Jiang Xuecheng raised his eyebrows noncommittally and observed the hint of fawning and begging in Su Wan’s eyes.
In fact, he enjoyed the process.
It was rare for Su Wan to ask him to do something.
But...
A memory from more than ten years ago suddenly flashed through Jiang Xuecheng’s mind. It had been too long, and he had almost let go.
After all, he seemed to have become completely normal after so many years.
Other than the nightmare he had on the night of the inexplicable thunderstorm in April, nothing unusual had happened again...
Su Wan saw that Jiang Xuecheng had put down his chopsticks and stopped eating, but did not answer her. He only lowered his eyes thoughtfully, and no one knew what he was thinking about.
They were just going to watch a meteor shower. Was there a need to be so conflicted?
Su Wan blinked in confusion. For the sake of her great cause, she put down her bowl and chopsticks and walked over to him. She wrapped her arms around Jiang Xuecheng.
“Xuecheng, please fulfil my dream. We only need to stay up for one night and we’ll be able to see a grand meteor shower. Moreover, we’ll be able to watch the sunrise on the island when we wake up in the morning too. That’s killing two birds with one stone!”
Jiang Xuecheng came back to his senses. He quietly raised his eyes and met Su Wan’s gaze. His pair of dark eyes were like the most mysterious sky in the night, which contained countless stars and objects.
“Do you really want to see it that much?”
His low voice sounded like a sigh.
Su Wan did not notice the slight strangeness in his tone. She could hear the change in his attitude, and she was so excited that she could not control herself.
Her eyes were curved, and she shook Jiang Xuecheng’s arm like a puppy. Her face almost overflowed with joy.
“Let’s go, let’s go, we can even make a wish! I heard that making a wish is most effective when there’s a shooting star!”
Jiang Xuecheng smiled gently and reached out to stroke the hair on Su Wan’s forehead.
“Alright then, but only this time. It won’t happen again. Girls shouldn’t stay up late.”
Su Wan nodded her head happily. Then, she quickly sat back down in her seat. She felt that her appetite was greatly stimulated by the food in front of her.
A few days ago, she and Jiang Xuecheng watched the sunset on the sea. They enjoyed the sparkling sea under the moonlight. Now, they could watch the meteor shower on the island and also watch the sunrise on the sea!
It was simply a perfect life!
***
That night, Su Wan and Jiang Xuecheng finished packing and drove off.
Since the best viewing spot was in the northeast, and the castle happened to be built in the southwest, the two of them went around the mountain road to the other side of the island.
The island was very quiet at night. A crescent hung in the sky, shining brightly. The lights in the castle were all off, making it seem as if the island was uninhabited.
Su Wan and Jiang Xuecheng sat down at the northeast corner of the island. Two steps ahead of them was a steep cliff. Under the cliff, the sea was quiet. Occasionally, a big wave would come, and the sound of the sea crashing against the cliff could be heard.
Su Wan and Jiang Xuecheng sat down next to each other. Because Jiang Xuecheng felt that Su Wan’s body was too thin, he specially brought a velvet blanket, afraid that Su Wan would catch a cold in the middle of the night.
Only moonlight and starlight surrounded them. The two of them brought a small night light which was dim. A faint yellow light was reflected from under the shade of the tree where they sat.
There was the sound of an unknown insect in the grass. It came and went, but it was not unpleasant at all. It was a bit like a bass singing.
Su Wan rested her head on Jiang Xuecheng’s shoulder. It was so quiet around her. She felt that she could count the heartbeat of Jiang Xuecheng.
Su Wan sat up and stared at Jiang Xuecheng. A faint smile appeared on her lips.
“Xuecheng, let’s make a wish together when the shooting star comes. We’ll make our own wishes. After the shooting star is over, we’ll tell each other the wish we made, okay?”
The moonlight shone on Su Wan’s face, making her face look even more delicate and beautiful. The smile on her lips was as sweet as a crystal grape.
“Okay.”
Without thinking, Jiang Xuecheng agreed to Su Wan’s suggestion.
Then, Jiang Xuecheng couldn’t help but pull Su Wan’s face close and kiss her gently on her forehead. His lips parted as soon as it touched her forehead, and the kiss was as gentle as a feather.
Su Wan was stunned for a moment. Then, she smiled. She pulled the blanket closer to Jiang Xuecheng and leaned on his shoulder to look up at the sky.
It was said that Vega was one of the stars in the Lyra constellation.
The ancient people had a saying, ‘The stone steps at night were as cool as cold water, sitting in the bedroom gazing at Altair and Vega Stars.’
Although it was not the Qi Xi Festival at the moment, weren’t she and Jiang Xuecheng a little like the lovers in the legend?
After half an hour, it was finally time for the meteors to appear.
Su Wan pulled Jiang Xuecheng and stood up. The two of them stood shoulder to shoulder. The moist sea breeze from the cliff blew their hair into the wind.
Suddenly, a ray of silver light flashed across the vast and mysterious sky. Soon, the light gathered into a ball and fell toward the boundless world.
It was so beautiful!
Su Wan stared at the meteors without blinking, afraid that she would miss a tiny detail. Then, she remembered to make a wish.
Su Wan closed her eyes and began to make a sincere wish.
She hoped that she could be with this man beside her forever...
The smile on Su Wan’s lips deepened. Although the shooting star had not receded, she could not help but want to ask what wish Jiang Xuecheng had made.
She nudged Jiang Xuecheng’s arm. Just as she was about to say something, she suddenly felt that there was something wrong with the person beside her.
Jiang Xuecheng stood motionlessly with his eyes closed, and he looked like he was in extreme pain.
What was wrong with him?
