Chapter 1428 Interviews go wrong
Seen objectively, Velma hadn't really said anything odd or unusual. Nor was there any need for Bagheera to be so disturbed. But his immense apprehension was as a result of his very essence being revealed to someone else, one secret at a time.
The real problem was that Bagheera, an Immortal, fully equipped with various gear and items provided to him by the bank, was having his secrets revealed without his knowledge. Moreover, though he was questioning Vivian, he knew that he couldn't really coerce or harm her in any way, since technically they were at fault. Every single person who could take a sponsorship from the bank was exceedingly well connected.
Much more importantly, they had already tried remotely scanning the karma on Vivian and her companions to get a read of their involvement in the matter, if there was any. What their scan revealed was that each of them was carrying an item with a Dao Lords aura, which meant that nothing about them could be discerned.
Though it did not appear so, the three of them were in a position of power, not Bagheera or the rest from the bank. So, the psychological pressure of knowing that he could not retaliate or defend himself in any way, combined with the knowledge that Vivian was backed by a Dao Lord, further combined with Vivian secretly hinting at knowing her private secret… well let's just say Bagheera had seen better days.
"Miss Vivian, I am a representative of the bank, inside the bank. It would be inappropriate of me to discuss irrelevant matters," he said, his voice completely calm and professional, which did not in any way suit his current expression. He was hoping Vivian would understand the message he was trying to convey, and indeed she understood.
Velma's eyes' flashed with interest. Normally, she befriended others and asked them about their romance once they lowered their guards. But secretly picking up on their secrets was also quite interesting. She also enjoyed teasing the panther a bit.
"Of course, of course," said Velma. "Yes, we should just proceed with the interview as normal"
That was what she said out loud. But through her spirit sense, Velma sent Bagheera another line.
"You are nervous because you think you'll get in trouble if you associate with other women. But some women like fighting for and marking their territory."
Velma put away the cake and the drink, no longer teasing him and pretending as if she was very serious about the interview. Unfortunately for Bagheera, without his realizing, she had already left a mark on him - a mark that the tiger would easily detect.
Of course, Velma was not interested in ruining other people's love lives or creating unnecessary trouble. She really was sincerely trying to help Bagheera's lovelife prosper. The problem was that Bagheera may be a good cultivator, a good banker and even a good warrior, but he was certainly lacking in his experience in dealing with women.
Fortunately, they would be here for a few days, so she would get to see how this would play out. She could also see that Bagheera was tempted to ask her for the bottle of elixir and maybe a slice of cake to take on his rendezvous, but didn't know how to.
She only smiled. This was way too much fun, so she wouldn't make it easy for him. He would have to ask for it himself if he wanted it.
In the conference room right beside Velma's, Gerard was also conducting an interview. Yes, he was not giving an interview, he was conducting one!
"No! Please! Dear guest, believe me, this was not my intention!" The Obsidian Scaled Panther said, wiping the sweat off his brow. Up until this day, he didn't even know he could sweat!
"I must say, it is rare to encounter such extremely unprofessional behavior," Gerard said, looking down at the panther with clear disgust in his voice. "How dare you give your car to someone else to wash? How can you call it your car if someone else is taking care of it? Young man, I am not your parent, and it is not my place to comment on your clearly sybaritic lifestyle. Please conclude this interview so that I do not have to be exposed to someone of such low moral standings any further."
"No, please, dear guest, try to understand!" the panther pleaded! "I work long hours and don't have time. I just like to go on long cruises over the weekends to relax. If I take out time to wash the car as well, then I won't get time to enjoy the drive."
Gerard snorted.
"Young man, that's as good as saying you're busy so you have someone else take your girlfriend out on a date, so you can just enjoy a few specific parts of the relationship? Tell me, if someone else is taking out your girlfriend, is she even your girlfriend at all? If the car that serves you so loyally can't even get the same amount of loyalty in return, then how can you claim she's your car. You may as well just rent a car for your purposes."
Gerard said the last part with such revulsion that his body physically trembled. "You're right! You're right, please forgive me! I have seen the error of my ways! No, wait, I probably haven't seen the error of my ways just yet! Please guide me, dear guest, so that I no longer make such mistakes! I truly wish to be a worthy owner of my car."
Gerard looked at the pleading panther, and then sighed. His heart was too good. He couldn't help but guide this foolhardy and young car enthusiast, lest he go completely astray. Though his actions might be sacrilegious, at least his intentions were good.
"Fine. Let's begin with the basics. Tell me all about your car, and how convenient it is on a golf course."
The panther finally breathed a sigh of relief, completely forgetting that the reason he was here was to ask Gerard about the 'incident'.
"Well, it's a 300 Unicorn powered corvette class street car, with a standard 16 wheel layout," the panther began to sincerely tell Gerard.
The fact that the panther was older, had a higher cultivation, was incharge of the interview or was at home base did not in any way give the panther any leverage in this situation. In front of a true car enthusiast, fakes like him were easy to distinguish. He could not pretend.
Back in the first conference room, Lex had revealed the process of everything leading up to them getting in the container in detail. He had not talked about anything irrelevant, nor had he tried to lead the conversation in any other direction… yet.
"Alright, I understand. So once you were in the container how did the events play out?" the panther asked.
"Well, Ripley was telling us all about what to expect when we arrive here on Uzuz, when one of my teammates detected a fluctuation in the energy within the container. By the way, I hope you don't mind me asking, what exactly was the energy that filled the container? It was able to so perfectly insulate us from the influence of the major realm."
Lex's question was an incredibly stupid question, and one he purposefully asked. If he directly asked the proper question, the panther would just brush his question off. But the severe extent to which Lex made it seem like he misunderstood the and underestimated the quality of the container would force the panther to correct Lex's misconception.
During their small interview so far, Lex had thoroughly analysed the panthers personality, so he knew how to get the information he wanted.
"The energy was just generic energy without any affinity. The thing that protected you from the influence of the major realm was the container. It's not just any material which can sustain the load of the Void and insulate a Major realm. These containers are directly manufactured by Dao Lords!"
"Damn, no wonder it was so strong," Lex praised sincerely. "But if it was made by a Dao Lord… does that mean the one who cracked it was also a Dao Lord? That doesn't make sense. We would not have survived if that was the case."
"How could it possibly be another Dao Lord?" the panther questioned, as if in disbelief that anyone could ask such an ignorant question. "No, the containers are thoroughly wiped clean of all Dao influence before they are put to use, lest the guests travelling within them cannot survive the aura of the Dao. Such a process naturally makes the container weaker than an item carrying a Dao Lords influence, but it is still strong enough to survive the Void.
"Even so, for your companion to notice the flow of energy within the container was remarkable. Can you comment on why he, and he alone noticed the energy change?"
"Well obviously because he was looking right where the crack appeared," Lex said as if it was a matter of fact.
"No, no, no, that's not possible," the panther said in exasperation. "Even if the containers are no longer influenced by a Dao Lord, their inner workings are not something just anyone can sense. Your friend would have had to…"
Lex just nodded his head as the panther explained, in detail, the inner workings of the container, and how it worked and was created. The fact that this would allow him to try and create such containers of his own later on was just a happy coincidence, and in no way what Lex had planned from the beginning.
