The gate was silently opened. It was too dark for them to see anything inside. The room was like the mouth of a beast that could swallow anything that came in.
Lu Li was greatly excited though he didn’t express this emotion. He forced himself to calm down, knowing that the situation inside would become complicated.
He signaled the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior and said, “Here you go, take the lead.”
The Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior drew a long face while working up the courage to walk over. Lu Li and Leng Wuxin followed him. Their Quasi Relic armors had appeared automatically.
“Buzzing!”
They walked through the gate one by one. After a white glare, Lu Li found himself in a small hall. None of them moved after stepping into the hall lest they trigger some Inhibition Formations here. They looked around, and soon, their attention was caught by a table right in front of them.
The hall had nothing in it except for the table, a gate, and a Teleportation Formation!
This gate inside was more magnificent than the door they came in from. The inside gate might be leading to a passageway that could take them to the main hall. The Teleportation Formation was more likely designed to teleport people out from the small hall. On the walls of the small hall, white light was glowing, lighting up the entire room.
The reason that they were focusing on the table was because of the black wooden box placed on it. A wooden box that appeared in such a place, needless to say, must contain precious artifacts!
Lu Li did not take any actions. He looked around and noticed that there was no Feather Wind and no signs of Inhibition Formations.
He winked at the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior who stepped to the table more than reluctantly. Since Leng Wuxin received no orders from Lu Li, she had to stay where she was.
One step, two steps, 10 steps!
It was safe. The Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior arrived at the table soon. He turned to Lu Li who nodded to give his consent. The Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior reached out and grabbed the black wooden box.
“Swish, swish~”
As soon as the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior touched the box, the ceiling in the hall suddenly glared. Thunderbolts converged as a horrifying atmosphere pervaded the room. A streak of black thunderbolt whooshed down. The Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior stepped back as quickly as he could. However, the thunderbolt hit him accurately nonetheless…
“Ah~”
The Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior was in a terrible state. He was burning up, and a surge of smoke rose. He rolled on the ground, yelling in pain. Soon, he could make no more sound. He was burnt alive.
Neither Lu Li nor Leng Wuxin made a move. They watched as the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior passed away, as his Quasi Relic armor came off, and as he turned into a torched body…
They felt awful. Lu Li was greatly frightened. He felt lucky that he had asked the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior to explore first or else Lu Li would be the one turned into a dead body.
Leng Wuxin was fearful that Lu Li would force her to open the wooden box. She would be killed just as well.
It was becoming more depressing in the hall. A smell of burnt flesh assaulted their noses. Lu Li said nothing. He stared at the wooden box silently while deliberating about the situation.
There was no doubt…
The wooden box contained valuables or else there wouldn’t have been such a powerful Inhibition Formation which must have been set up by Emperor Heng. His goal was to make the acquisition of the treasure more difficult.
The Inhibition Formation was strong enough to kill an Earth Immortal Realm warrior. What was contained in the wooden box must be more than an average Quasi Relic artifact. It might not be one of Emperor Heng’s two Relics, but it must be something incredible.
The matter at hand was how to retrieve it.
Lu Li pondered about it. He put away the Quasi Relic armor and the Interspatial Ring that once belonged to the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior. Then, he walked around the hall with caution while checking the room up and down. He felt sorry that the hall didn’t have any Feather Wind. Otherwise, he could have used wind dragons to explore the way for him.
Lu Li covered every inch of the hall carefully, but he didn’t lay a finger on the table. The rest of the hall was safe. What disappointed him was… he didn’t find any clues. Nothing stood out in the rest areas of the hall.
Leng Wuxin was checking as well, but she failed to detect any signs as well. Lu Li and Leng Wuxin looked at each other. Both felt they were at their wit’s end.
The valuables could not be taken out unless the box was opened. But what if they were blasted by a thunderbolt as they opened the box?
Not only didn’t Lu Li dare to touch the wooden box himself, he was afraid for Leng Wuxin to have a try, either. Once she died, he would find nobody to make antidote for him.
The treasure was within sight, but they could not have it!
Lu Li felt depressed. He walked over to the table and gazed at the wooden box, attempting to find some secret on the box itself.
The wooden box was old. On it carved patterns of mysterious and ferocious beasts. In the patterns, there were faint white glares. Over the box, some strange runes were partly hidden and partly visible.
“The wooden box is a piece of Quasi Relic?”
Lu Li was not sure. He stared at the wooden box for a long time but failed to discover any secret. He was wrestling inside, not knowing whether he should give it up or not.
He could think of a way to get to the main hall, or he could leave by the Teleportation Formation, or, he could take the risk and snatch the treasure!
The idea of entering the main hall didn’t even cross his mind. The small hall was dangerous already. Say he could get into the main hall, and there were Relic weapons and Relic armors for him to take, would he have the courage to do so?
If he were to leave like this, he would be teleported out. His life would no longer be in danger, but this trip would have been in vain.
Lu Li looked at the wooden box with a frown. He tried to put himself in the shoes of Emperor Heng, wondering he were Emperor Heng, what he would try to achieve by setting up the Inhibition Formation.
To give people hope or to lead them to despair?
Emperor Heng wouldn’t be so boring as to prevent people to get the treasures he offered. The treasures must be placed here to be given to the special someone.
Leng Wuxin stood next to Lu Li nervously, waiting for him to make a decision. The time for one incense stick to burn passed, and then two incense sticks, and then three. All of a sudden, a trace of terror rose in her eyes!
Lu Li closed his eyes and reached out his hands toward the wooden box.
Leng Wuxin was shivering. Once Lu Li died, it was highly likely that she would, too. When he passed away, the soul seeds would go on a riot, which might lead her soul to complete collapse…
However!
She could not disobey him. She could only watch as Lu Li reached out his hand toward the wooden box slowly.
Three feet. One and a half feet!
Lu Li’s hand stopped right above the wooden box. Leng Wuxin felt she could no longer breathe. Lu Li was still conflicted inside as indicated by his facial expressions.
He stopped for the time for 10 breaths…
Lu Li made up his mind. He reached out quickly and put his hand on the wooden box.
Leng Wuxin was too scared to watch. She closed her eyes and opened her mouth in terror. She waited for thunderbolts to come down.
“Swish, swish~”
The Inhibition Formation in the ceiling glared as a surge of powerful energy spread out. As of that moment, both Lu Li and Leng Wuxin felt helpless. Lu Li didn’t even step back. The fact that the Jun Family Earth Immortal Realm warrior was killed proved that no corner was safe.
He had taken a bet, a bet that could result in death should he lose!
“Swish, swish!”
A strike of huge thunderbolt whooshed down toward Lu Li. The white glare enveloped him. Even Leng Wuxin, who kept her eyes closed, felt blinded.
The thunderbolt dispersed after it came down. Leng Wuxin waited for the time for three breaths, but she didn’t hear Lu Li’s scream of misery. She opened her eyes in shock, only to find that Lu Li had disappeared and vanished into thin air…
“Has he been struck to dust?”
Leng Wuxin blinked. Soon, she realized that it was not true. She yelled, “No, Lu Li is not dead—”
Lu Li had Quasi Relic artifact on him. If he was dead, the Quasi Relic artifact should come off automatically. What was more, she could tell her spiritual link with Lu Li was still effective, which was another proof that Lu Li was still alive.
“He is right again!”
Leng Wuxin was envious. She had been having this doubt—the second person to touch the wooden box might not be killed. This might be a test of courage devised by Emperor Heng. After all, a warrior that feared death wouldn’t amount to a huge accomplishment.
“Where has Lu Li been teleported to? What can he obtain?”
Leng Wuxin was curious. She was jealous of Lu Li’s good fortune, but she did understand that Lu Li was risking his life, and she wouldn’t have had the courage to do so…
