Ellinor shot him a glance. “Just for fun. You used to be like this with me. Now it’s my turn to tease you.”

Marcus slightly furrowed his brows, remaining silent.

He didn’t remember how he used to treat this young lady, so he couldn’t respond.

At that moment, a cell phone rang. Ellinor picked it up and answered.

Because it was quiet on the balcony, even without the speakerphone on, Marcus could hear the man’s voice on the other end of the line.

“Ellinor, where are you?”

Ellinor looked thoughtfully at Marcus before answering. “At a friend’s place. What’s up? You need something?”

Bartlett replied with a smirk. “Didn’t you say last time that you wanted to check out Rex Enterprises’ property in Blue River Estates? Let’s go. I can take you there

now.”

Ellinor glanced at her wristwatch. “Sure. Where should I meet you?”

“Where are you? I’ll pick you up.”

“No need. I’ll meet you there.”

“Alright, I’ll send you the location.”

“Okay.”

After ending the call with Bartlett, Ellinor put her phone into her pocket, looking ready to leave.

Marcus watched her with mixed emotions. “Got a date?”

Ellinor stood up. “Something came up. I need to go. Be careful when you take a shower later, and take care of Adrian for me.”

With that, Ellinor moved to the edge of the balcony and gracefully hopped over.

Marcus felt a heaviness in his chest as he watched Ellinor leave. He was inexplicably irritated.

The call was from a man, and the way they spoke with each other didn’t sound like they were just professional acquaintances.

They seemed close and were very friendly to each other.

When Adrian came back after setting up the bath, he couldn’t find Ellinor anywhere. He started looking around for his mom.

“Where’s Mommy?”

“She left.” Marcus responded with a heavy tone.

Adrian was disappointed. “What? Mommy left without even saying goodbye?”

Marcus coldly laughed. “She was in a rush to meet a man. She doesn’t care about anyone else.”

Adrian was taken aback. He tilted his head, sensing that his usually aloof dad seemed off. “Daddy, are you… jealous?”

Jealous?

Marcus was startled. Was this uncomfortable feeling jealousy?

Ellinor arrived at a bar to pick up Bartlett.

With his charming smile on full display, Bartlett got into Ellinor’s car and buckled up. “Ellinor, thank you for going out of your way to pick me up.”

Ellinor shook her head to indicate it was no trouble. After glancing at the bar’s sign, she commented, “Mr. Rex, you sure lead an interesting life. Why are you drinking at a bar in broad daylight?”

Bartlett didn’t hide it. “A few friends wanted to meet here for a drink. I barely had a sip before I called you. It was a good excuse to duck out.”

Ellinor wasn’t particularly interested in his life. She didn’t react, only asking, “We’re headed to Blue River Estates?”

Bartlett nodded. “Yes.”.
