At that moment.

Ellinor sat in the car Balfour had sent for her to take her back to the Blanchet Villa, leaning against the window in solitary thought.

Balfour glanced at his sister and asked, “How’s Theo holding up?”

Ellinor replied with a tired tone, “He’s doing fine. It was nothing serious.”

Balfour grunted in response,

“When do you plan to make your move?”

“Soon.”

Byran dragged Ida back to his father’s sickroom. Originally, Ida was going to leave the hospital with Ellinor, but Byran made a scene in the hospital lobby, pestering her relentlessly.

She couldn’t deal with the embarrassment, so she reluctantly followed him back.

It was awkward.

McNeil had already returned to his sickbed. After seeing the two of them return together, he quickly sat up and smiled at his future daughter-in-law.

Ida had never engaged in such erratic behavior, but since she had already followed the rascal back, she needed a plausible explanation to give to the elder man.

“Mr. Howard, I heard you were quite interested in Ellinor’s situation. Byran told me you were not in the best mood today and only wanted to hear about Ellinor. Since I grew up with Ellinor, you can ask me anything you want to know about her. Perhaps it might lighten your mood.”

Sorry, Boss. Using you as a conversation topic was the only way to ease the awkwardness. Ida silently apologized.

Upon hearing this, McNeil’s eyes, weary from excessive blood loss, lit up with interest. “Oh? You and Ellinor were childhood friends?”

Ida nodded slightly. “You could say that.”

“Byran, aren’t you going to get your girlfriend a chair?” McNeil eagerly barked out for his son to be more considerate.

Of course, Byran wanted to. He didn’t want his girl standing either.

But there were no chairs in the room.

He scanned the surroundings and decided to move the sofa from the deluxe sickroom right over. “Ida, sit here! This way, I can sit with you. Hehehe.”

Ida glanced at the sofa that had been shoved right next to the sickbed and resigned herself to sit down.

As soon as she sat down, Byran immediately squeezed in beside her, taking the opportunity to wrap his arm around her waist.

Ida wasn’t exactly a prude, but she wasn’t comfortable displaying such intimacy in front of an elder, so she smacked Byran’s hand away.

Byran yelped in pain but shamelessly wrapped his arm around her again. “Ida, don’t be shy. My dad is very open-minded; he was wilder than us back in his day.”

McNeil was speechless.

What kind of son talked about his father like that?

Ida was also astonished.

This kid probably thought he was complimenting his father.

Ignoring Byran, McNeil asked Ida politely and kindly, “Dear, tell me more about how you and Ellinor met. Did she have a hard time growing up?”

Recalling the hardships Ellinor had to endure as a child, even Ida couldn’t help but frown. Her gaze towards McNell, Ellinor’s irresponsible biological father, became colder. She nodded. “Yes, the hardships she faced as a child… Mr. Howard, I doubt you could even imagine.”
