Chapter 2156

Balfour’s irritation was mounting, and to add insult to injury, Ivy didn’t even argue when he spoke this. She seemed to actually believe he’d gone out and cheated on her!

“Wow, is that what you think of me? Ivy, you sure have a knack for judgment.”

He’d been gathering evidence for her, and now this woman had the nerve to think he was fooling around.

Anyone would be upset being falsely accused like that..

“If that’s what you want to believe, I’ve got nothing left to say!”

Ivy couldn’t understand why Balfour could act so innocent.

He had obviously gone out with Giselle and even visited her place, and now he had the audacity to chat as if nothing had happened.

Why couldn’t she be as carefree as Balfour?

Seeing that she wasn’t in the mood for a proper conversation, Balfour was even more furious.

He ripped off his tie in frustration, throwing it onto the floor and stormed off to the study.

“I’m sleeping in the study tonight! You can have the bed to yourself!”

He was too angry to face Ivy right now.

Confronting her would only unleash more of his fury, and he didn’t want to say something he’d regret.

It wasn’t that he feared arguing with Ivy after all, he hadn’t done anything wrong. Ivy couldn’t just slap a label on him like that.

But what he truly feared was Ivy’s attitude – her unwillingness to listen or speak, her lack of desire to know the truth.

To her, Balfour was like a stranger now. His words were irrelevant to her life.

After he left, Ivy curled up dejectedly, hugging her knees close and cocooning herself into a position that offered a semblance of security.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

Why should Balfour be angry? He was the one who had lied to her first, yet he acted so aggressively!

Tossing and turning in bed, Ivy couldn’t find sleep.

Every time she closed her eyes, Giselle’s messages replayed in her mind. She could even picture the smug look on Giselle’s face as she sent them.

Agitated, Ivy grabbed the pillow that should have been his, punching it furiously. “That’s for lying to me!”

She spent the night flipping over like a pancake on a skillet, restless and unable to get a wink of sleep.

The next morning, she woke up with two massive dark circles under her eyes.

Before heading downstairs, Ivy waited a while, dreading the possibility of running into Balfour coming out of the study.

To her surprise, he had already left for the office early, as if he couldn’t bear the thought of seeing her.

“Oh my, what happened here? Ivy, did you have a rough night?”

“You and Balfour, both of you with dark circles bigger than a panda’s. What on earth happened?”

Ivy shook her head. She couldn’t let the elders worry about all of their problems.

“It’s nothing, just had a bad dream last night and didn’t sleep well. It’s not a big deal.”

Alyssa served Ivy a bowl of soup with a sympathetic hand.

“Here, drink some of this. It’ll help you recover. You’re still young, and you can bounce back with some good nourishment. Once you reach my age, no amount of eating does any good, so cherish your health while you have it.”

The Howard family’s staff made the best desserts, and the soup was to ivy’s liking.

She savored a bowl and a half before setting the spoon down.

“Got anything going on with the filming today? If not, why don’t you join me in the garden to check out the new roses we’ve transplanted?”
