by ste to consciousness, feeling the warmth of a hand clasping hers a comfort far removed from the self embrace she had settled into before drifting off.

Despite the VIP ward boasting a separate bed for quests, Balfour had abandoned it in the wee hours opting instead to hold Ivy’s hand and slumber by her bedside, troubled by her restless sky

As hy shifted Balfour blinked awake. “Morning, sunshine. Hungry? I could dash down to the doll and grab some breakfast”

by shook her head, her appetite not quite kicking in yet. Her mind was elsewhere, wondering why Balfour was even there.

Dicht Ms. Lewis just fly back in? Shouldn’t you be playing the gracious host?”

She’s a guest sure, and I’ve done my bit. But you come first. Grandma and Grandpa are there she’ll be just fine” by’s heart tangled with mixed feelings, unable to grasp why, just when she had resolved to stop pining for Balfour, he had swooped in with such tenderness and swayed her resolve. Balfour had not overthought it. Ever since a conversation with Elara last night, he figured he ought to spend more time with Ivy.

He had brought his work to the hospital, ensuring he was by her side 24/7, save for the occasional food run.

“I came in such a hurry yesterday; I totally spaced on arranging your meals. You love Althea’s cooking, right? I’ll swing by the house tonight and have her whip up something special. Starting tomorrow, Quinton can deliver your meals three times a day.”

Ivy’s brow creased with worry. Was she becoming a burden?

“Your company needs you, Balfour. I’m nearly back on my feet. You don’t have to stick around here.”

Without even looking up, Balfour continued to fill her plate with food.

“The company’s fine. Priorities, Ivy. You’re top of the list right now.”

Hearing those words warmed Ivy from the inside out. She mattered to him more than she had ever hoped.

*Just as long as it’s no trouble for you.”

Post-breakfast, Ivy rested in bed, occasionally thumbing through a book to pass the time.

Across the room, Balfour worked, keeping an eagle eye on her, ready to tend to any discomfort at a moment’s notice.

A knock on the door broke the morning quietude,

Ivy glanced at Balfour, curious about who else might visit-Quinton, perhaps, with yet another stack of papers for Balfour’s attention)

“Come in.”

To Ivy’s surprise, Thalia and Margot sauntered in.

Ivy and Margot had been relatively close at the set, and when Ivy had been falsely accused, Margot had stood by her, a gesture Ivy held close to her heart.

Plus, after her accident, Thalia, Margot’s friend, had become a key witness. Ivy owed more to these two than she could express.

As she struggled to sit up, Balfour was instantly beside her, propping her up with a mountain of pillows to ensure her comfort while they chatted.

With the room now a haven of girl talk, Balfour made a show of stepping out to grab some drinks, leaving them to their sisterly solidarity.

The moment he left, Margot’s vivacious spirit rekindled. Flopping down beside Ivy’s bed and taking her hand, she bubbled with concern. “Ivy, how’re you holding up? Anything still hurting?”
