Chapter 1067: Special Mark
His actions baffled the other three men, at least, when Ye Jian1 saw them wiping the water off their faces, they were still perplexed. After the younger man motioned the three guys to the side and mumbled something to them, they all started to wear excited expressions on their faces.
Turning her focus to Brother Hong, Ye Jian slightly hooked up her lips. While the four guys were mumbling behind his back, Brother Hong, who was resting his eyes, opened them slightly and swept a man’s gaze. On his face, Ye Jian could spot a very clear killing intent.
They didn’t move, and neither did Ye Jian. This path is the quickest route in the entire rainforest. If she strayed even a little, she’d have to give up on reaching camp successfully by tonight.
Ten minutes later, Brother Hong propped himself upright with his crutch and continued walking with the raincoat he bought from the market.
Ye Jian shadowed them by their side. Occasionally, she could hear Brother Hong instructing the other four guys which way to go. The direction they were headed towards…, made Ye Jian let out a gentle sigh, they’re on the same path as her.
The border of the two countries had always been where drug trades were most rampant. Encountering drug trades happening in this rainforest was actually not unusual.
Near the end of the year, the rampant criminals from all trades wanted to make money before the new year. Although drugs carry high risks, as the channel that makes money easily, many people who dream of getting rich will try to walk the tightrope.
If they were going to be on the same route for the entire time, Ye Jian still hoped that the anti-drug border police would find them quickly.
Half an hour later, Captain Liu, with his men in tow, finally tracked the party of five men to where they had taken a short break. “Search the area, and let Big Eagle rest for a bit.” Big Eagle, the name of the drug detection dog, was a member of their team.
Meanwhile, Captain Liu was searching the area for any new clues. In no time, his gaze landed on a bush with vines artificially wrapped around it, then making a detailed inspection around; he found the markings Ye Jian had left behind.
There was a newly carved arrow symbol on the bottom of the tree, and underneath the arrow, a ‘pentagram’ was engraved there.
With a focused gaze, Captain Liu stretched out his hand and touched the moss growing on the tree roots. As expected, he found a very small pentagram underneath it, on the bottom was a short sword and the number “1”.
… It’s one of their own! And they knew the secret signs of the anti-drug unit!
How could there be someone else? His superiors had only arranged his team for this operation, the possibility of another one of their brothers watching this operation doesn’t exist. Besides, they were doing it alone, that’s even more unlikely! Then how can this be explained? Who else is tailing them?
Captain Liu covered up the tracks they left behind and continued leading his team onwards, not being too distant from their targets, yet not being too close. He didn’t spare more attention at wondering who else was in front of him. As long as he was certain that ‘brother’ was on their side, he could feel more at ease.
Let’s see what other markings they left behind.
After an hour, Captain Liu spotted a series of markings, a row of ‘1’s were carved on the bottom of the tree root. The ‘1’s at the front were slightly longer while the four ‘1’s near the back were slightly shorter, but their length was the same. Meanwhile, the bottom row of ‘1’s was of uneven length without any regular patterns.
When Captain Liu saw that, he couldn’t help but to chuckle, quite interesting, using numbers to relay information.
The longest ‘1’ represents Brother Hong, while the four ‘1’s that were of even length represented the four people beside him. Meanwhile, the bottom row of uneven ‘1’s represent that Brother Hong had reinforcements.
It looks like the ‘brother’ in front of them is following them quite closely, listening to everything that Brother Hong and his underlings discussed. Although they were provided timely information about Brother Hong, by following so closely, they wouldn’t be able to get there immediately if they were in a dangerous situation.
