Chapter 478: College Entrance Exam Of The Many Students
“Do not allow your abilities to get destroyed by the emotions that you would occasionally reveal. Especially while carrying out a mission. There isn’t the presence of anyone else in your eyes. What remains is alertness! Do you understand, Ye Jian!” That last phrase Xia Jinyuan said it was the strictest remark, told with the coldest tone that he had ever used on Ye Jian since the time they met each other so long ago.
What intimacy? What teasing? Everything about gender had disappeared from her mind. What’s left was the calmness before carrying out a mission, a calm that will never be influenced by anyone else.
Straightening her body, Ye Jian bellowed, “Sir, yes, sir.” She could already feel a layer of cold sweat that had formed on her back.
She couldn’t see through this man who was as cold as the spring breeze one moment, then turning as cold as the mountain winds the next. Like right now, before she was able to walk out of his harsh and strict voice, he had already collected his stern expression and was now revealing an intoxicating smile.
“Alright, you can relax now. I believe with your smarts, you would have already remembered my words and will work on correcting it.” He smiled while picking up the cup of cold water and passed it to her once again. “Here, finish the water inside. Coldwater to freshen up.”
The pair of deep and dark pupils carried a profound look that Ye Jian was unable to make clear of. After receiving the cup, she gently closed her eyes and sipped on the icy cold water… it was indeed refreshing; even her brain felt much more awake.
Xia Jinyuan was a mysterious man, and there was too much she needed to learn from him. It was also thanks to his timely reminder that made her understand that no matter who it was she was facing against, as long as it was in a non-private public setting, she must always keep her distance. Her emotions shouldn’t get influenced by the gazes of people she was close to.
He was her mentor and as a wise companion. To be able to gain the company of such a good mentor during her growth, it was the blessing of three lifetimes.
“The plane will depart at 0430. Now, you are required to follow after me and immediately make our way towards the airport. We shall arrive beforehand to finish all the preparatory work.” Xia Jinyuan was very pleased with Ye Jian’s attitude. After being intimidated by him, instead of choosing to flee, she had decided to accept it and recognized the reality.
That’s the good thing about her. Official matters are official matters; private issues are private matters. Even though he was harsh on her for official questions, it still wouldn’t affect their relationship.
A person who had a clear separation of official and private matters was also someone who made clear distinctions between gratitude and grudges. As such, he was not in the least worried that his harshness towards her would be repaid with her avoidance.
How would a little lass, who’s fighting spirit increases in battle, choose to flee?
While watching her take little sips of the water, he slipped his hand into his blazer’s inner pocket and elegantly took out an item that was emanating coldness of metal. It was a QSZ-92, 9mm semi-automatic handgun that could be placed inside of a briefcase.
“This is a handgun that got transferred from the arms depot. An all brand new, miniature handgun that hadn’t been used by anyone else until now. It’s the perfect match for you.” The handgun was placed on the meeting table and then slowly pushed until it was in front of her. “Two spare magazines, combine that with the ammo in the magazine inside the handgun now, you have a total of 35 bullets. Under the circumstances that you did not fire the gun, all 35 bullets must be returned to the military depot for storage.”
Ye Jian picked up the handgun. While she was holding onto the grip, she pressed the magazine release button and removed the magazine inside. The magazine landed on her left palm. The moment she touched the gun, Ye Jian started meticulously and thoughtfully inspected the magazine’s capacity with a cold gaze. Only after making sure the magazine was filled with 15 bullets did she reload the magazine.
Then dashingly pulled on the slider, she raised her arm. With a cold expression, her gaze passed through the iron sights and aimed right at a moth outside the meeting room window that was attracted by the light.
“There aren’t any problems.” After holstering the handgun, Ye Jian’s pupils became as calm as a mirror while she looked at Xia Jinyuan, who wore a smile on the edges of his lips. “We can leave now, right?”
