Chapter 1552

James soon arrived at the gate of the Cadens‘ mansion.

The guards at the gate saw the military vehicles and immediately approached them.

As they were walking over, James had already gotten out of the car.

“J–James…”

The guard addressed him nervously.

James‘ appearance caused both guards to lose their composure.

James asked bluntly, “Is Maxine home?”

“Y–yes, she’s home…”

Before the guard could finish speaking, James had already barged into the Cadens‘ mansion.

Right then, Maxine was speaking with Zaiden, the head of the Sullivans, in the living room.

“Mr. Sullivan, I’ve spoken about this at length. You should reconsider.”

As Maxine said that, James walked into the living room.

Seeing James, Maxine immediately stood up and gasped, “J–James.”

James glanced at Zaiden, who was sitting on the couch and spoke in a steely tone. “This doesn’t concern you. You can leave for now.”

Zaiden looked quietly at James. Then, he simply stood up and left.

“J–James. You’re back?”

James looked at Maxine and asked, “Why did you lie to me?”

“What?”

Maxine wanted to speak but could not bring herself to face him.

“Where’s Thea?”

As soon as James showed up, Maxine knew he was here to ask about Thea’s identity.

“I don’t know.”

Maxine had no clue about Thea’s whereabouts.

“However, I heard Celestial Sect’s leader challenged Tobias three days ago. They’re to meet one week later at Mt. Thunder Pass in the Southern Plains. If he refuses to accept the challenge, the sect leader will barge into the Capital and slaughter every one of his men,” said Maxine.

Maxine had a brief understanding of the events that took place in Malgudi.

She knew James‘ cultivation base had been erased, and that he lost his strength.

Afterward, Thea took him away.

However, she did not know where Thea had brought him.

During this period, she had asked around but had gotten no news about Thea and James. It was not until three days ago that news spread in the ancient martial world about how Celestial Sect’s leader had challenged Tobias.

They were to duel at Mt. Thunder Pass in the Southern Plains. Should Tobias not have accepted it, Thea was determined to bring the fight to th capital.

“What happened, James?” asked Maxine.

“When did you find out about Thea’s identity.” James stared at Maxine and asked sternly.

After spending a couple of moments in stunned silence, Maxine replied, “1–I had a feeling it was her since a long while ago, but it hasn’t been that long since I confirmed the fact for myself.”

“Are you serious?! Why didn’t you tell me about such an important matter?” James raised his voice angrily.

“It’s not that I didn’t want to. Thea, she…”

“Huff!”

James took a deep breath and sat down.

“James…”

A voice called out from behind the door.

Bennett walked into the living room.

He stared at James. Seeing that James looked in the pink of health, he sighed in relief and said, “I was worrying frantically for the past two weeks. Thank goddess, you’re fine. By the way, how’s your strength?”

“I’ve already restored my strength,” James replied monotonously.

“Good.”

Bennett walked over and sat down beside James.

“James…”

Maxine finally found the courage to open her mouth once more. “Actually, Thea was just trying to help you. She’s secretly helped you for a while now. I was able to secure my position as the Cadens‘ family head because of what she’s done.”

James did not pursue the matter any further.

He understood that Thea simply wanted to help him.

He knew that Celestial Sect’s leader was someone he had met while in Durandal or perhaps slightly before that, mainly because the sect leader had rescued him several times prior.
