James never expected Maxine to make such an outrageous request
Maxine stopped at the door and turned to look at James who was frozen in shock as she said, “To be honest, I’d prefer Thea out of the picture.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned and walked away.
After she left, Cynthia looked at James and asked, “James, what is Maxine trying to do?”
James took out a cigarette and lit it.
He took a long drag and shook his head, saying, “I have no idea what’s on her mind.”
James could not figure out what Maxine was thinking.
It made sense for Maxine to ask James to marry her.
However, it was strange that she was also trying to drag Tiara and Cynthia into it.
Cynthia looked at Tiara sitting beside them and reprimanded her “What’re you thinking, Tiara?! Why are you trying to provoke Maxine? Asking James to marry three women at once is outrageous.”
Tiara’s pretty face immediately turned red.
She was not thinking clearly back then and agreed as soon as Maxine prompted her
Tiara murmured, “D-Did I complicate things for you, James? I didn’t think it through properly and simply agreed when Maxine asked me. I… I didn’t mean to cause you trouble.”
James waved his hand and said, “It’s not your fault.”
Cynthia asked, “What do we do now?”
James was at a loss.
Henry had not yet tracked down Winnie’s whereabouts.
Furthermore, Maxine’s terms of returning her was for James to maintain the marriage with them for three years.
Three years was a long time.
In the first place, it was impossible for him to marry three of them at once.
Maxine’s request was outrageous.
“What should I do?”
James became frustrated.
“How about proceeding with the marriage? It’s worth considering since Maxine will return your child to you. By the way, where’s Thea? Maybe you should discuss this with her.” said Cynthia lightheartedly.
James replied Cynthia honestly, “Thea has something important to do and won’t be able to return anytime soon. It may take as soon as three to five years, or in the worst case scenario, she might not return for eight to ten years.”
Hearing this, Cynthia’s jaw practically dropped.
“She’ll be gone for that long?! Where exactly did she go to?”
James did not go into details about Thea having to purify the Demonic Energy in her body.
Cynthia did make a good point with her suggestion, though. He should discuss the situation with Thea.
“I’ll head off now. I’ll be back in a few days.”
James stood up and left
After he left, Cynthia and Tiara looked at each other.
“Tiara, are you that desperate to marry James? Don’t you care that he already has Thea?”
Tiara opened her mouth but no words came out
Does she not care?
How could she not care?
Was it unrealistic to not want to monopolize their loved one’s affections?
Deep down, she knew how improbable it was.
He would not marry her, even if she was fine about the fact that he already had Thea.
“How about you?”
Tiara directed the question back to Cynthia. “We’ve been together for so long, Cynthia. Although you’ve never outwardly shown your affection for James, you’ve been always asking about him all these years. It’s obvious that you like him. Don’t you want to be with him too?”
“Hah” Cynthia chuckled cynically
“Do we have to be in a relationship just because I have feelings for him?”
“If you don’t pursue him, won’t it just remain a one-sided crush?”
The two had a brief conversation.
At that moment, James had already left.
He contacted Henry and requested him to continue looking for Winnie. After that, he took a private plane and headed to the Chamber of Scriptures on Mount Tai.
He might not be able to see Thea but he still wanted to give it a shot.
If he could not find Winnie, he might have to give in to Maxine’s demands to ensure their child’s safety.
