James intervened and stopped the Protector from continuing the slaughter. Under the Protector’s
guidance, James descended into the depths of the tomb. Meanwhile, the Protector was apprehensive. He did not know James’ identity and wanted to ask, but he did not dare to.
James also had many questions on his mind. Though he wanted to ask, he was afraid of revealing his identity.
After some time, unable to stand it any longer, he asked, “Who’s Lucifer Menachem?”
This time, it was the Protector’s turn to be puzzled. Lucifer was renowned in the Demon Realm. His father was one of the Demon Emperors and leaders of the Demon Race in ancient times. So why had the man before him not heard of Lucifer Menachem despite having such a terrifying token?
“This should be an easy question,” James’ voice boomed.
The Protector stopped and looked at James. His face was wrinkled. Humbly, he asked, “Master, who are you? Why were you among my subordinates? Were you sent here by the higher-ups to monitor me?” James said nonchalantly, “I come from the Demon Realm. That’s the only thing you need to know.” “Understood.” The Protector nodded.
Then, he answered James’ question, “Emperor Rank cultivators are the most powerful living beings in this world. In ancient times, the grand army of the Demon Race appeared on Earth and tried to conquer the planet. However, we were met with resistance by the earthlings.”
“Back then, His Majesty Xacobe Menachem was the one who led the army. However, he was met with a counterattack from the earthlings and was trapped in Mount Walvern. As His Majesty had foreseen
his demise, he sealed his only blood kin, Lucifer Menachem, away to leave behind seeds for a future renaissance of the Demon Race.
“After the Demon Race retreated, the earthlings pursued the Demon Race and hunted us down. In the current age, the Demon Race’s influence on Earth is negligible. Meanwhile, my ancestor who was a general under His Majesty ordered me to remain in the Ancient Realm and await further instructions.
“A few decades ago, I received a secret order instructing me to conquer the Ancient Realm and resurrect Lucifer.”
Hearing this, James knew that the Demon Race was on the move.
“Show me the way,” James said.
“Follow me.”
The Protector made a welcoming gesture.
Soon, they arrived at the tomb deep underground. The Demonic Energy here was terrifying as they were countless times that of the outside world. No ordinary cultivators could approach this place.
James stood before the tomb, on which mysterious characters were carved. Though James could not understand their meaning, he roughly knew that the words meant ‘the Tomb of Lucifer Menachem’.
James asked, “How do we resurrect him?”
The Protector walked over to him and waved his arm. Then, powerful energy materialized in his palm, and they shredded through the air. Following that, the soil on the tomb disappeared.
This place was a Magic Circle.
James knew nothing about Magic Circles. He could only see some complicated lines, within which was an uncovered coffin. Inside the coffin lay a man around eighteen years of age. He had a youthful look on his face.
The Protector said, “This was the seal left behind by His Majesty. Even though a long time has passed, the seal’s power is still strong. Though I’ve learned the ancient arcane arts, I still can’t undo the seal. As such, I require the fresh blood of countless humans in combination with the arcane arts to forcibly undo the seal.”
James looked at the convoluted lines and asked, “Can I release the seal just by using Demonic Energy?”
“Yes,” the Protector said. “However, you require an enormous amount of Demonic Energy. With my strength, I’m incapable of accomplishing such a feat.”
James said, “Stand back, I’ll give it a try.”
“Understood.”
The Protector retreated to the rear.
Looking at the convoluted lines before him, James took a deep breath and catalyzed the Demonic Energy inside his body. Then, he directed them to the Magic Circle in front of him.
At that moment, he could sense a powerful suction force coming from within the Magic Circle that frantically absorbed his energy. His face paled as he tried to stop the process. However, he could not no matter how hard he tried.
Soon, his Demonic Energy was drained.
His Demonic Energy was completely depleted.
