Chapter 5
C5 – Yun Hai
The elder’s temples were prominently swollen, his body thrumming with Spiritual Energy as he sprinted with all his strength. His white robe danced in the air, his presence commanding.
“Martial Master Realm!” a member of the Yun family cried out in awe.
“Master, save me!” Qiu Kuiwei, still on the receiving end of Yun Haoyan’s slaps, yelled desperately.
Yun Haoyan, seeing the elder approach, sent Qiu Kuiwei flying towards him with a kick.
The elder swiftly caught the airborne Qiu Kuiwei, fixing Yun Haoyan with a severe glare. With a sneer, he chided, “Didn’t I tell you to stop?”
“Respect your elders? Who are you to order me around? Do you think you’re my grandson?” Yun Haoyan retorted with scorn.
Passing Qiu Kuiwei to a Qiu family servant, the elder’s Spiritual Energy pulsed as he spoke with icy clarity, “You’ve got a sharp tongue, boy. Let’s see if your strength matches your words.”
The elder was a covert guardian sent by the Qiu family patriarch to protect Qiu Kuiwei, his nephew by clan.
He had been standing back, not anticipating that anyone from the Yun family would dare strike Qiu Kuiwei. Now, with Qiu Kuiwei’s face swollen beyond recognition, he dreaded the punishment awaiting him at home. His resentment towards Yun Haoyan intensified.
Confronting Yun Haoyan, the elder’s palm thrust forward, slicing the air with a sound that echoed to the distant Yuns.
Suddenly, a towering figure materialized before Yun Haoyan. Clad in a brown robe that billowed with the wind, the figure’s Spiritual Energy surged so powerfully that the Qiu family members involuntarily retreated.
“Father!” Yun Tiantian called out.
“Patriarch,” the Yuns greeted with reverent bows.
The figure shielding Yun Haoyan was none other than the Yun family patriarch, a Martial Master at the pinnacle of his realm.
With a dismissive wave of his hand and without looking back, the patriarch’s gaze remained fixed on the elder as he spoke with a calm detachment.
“What’s this? The Qiu family elders are regressing with age, resorting to bullying the young. Aren’t they worried about becoming the town’s laughingstock?”
Yun Haoyan stood silently behind his father, aware that his father had been observing the spectacle from the sidelines.
Even without his father’s intervention, he could have easily bested the Qiu family elders. But for now, he chose to conceal his true capabilities, preferring his father to step in.
“Fine!”
The elder spat out venomously, “It appears the Yun family no longer wishes to associate with Silkbarrow, daring to strike the Qiu family’s young master. We’re leaving!”
With those words, the elder vanished with his entourage, knowing full well he was no match for the Yun family patriarch. A wise man knows when to retreat.
“Yun Haoyan, follow me to the study.”
Once the Qiu family had departed, the Yun family patriarch spoke with grave solemnity.
“Yes!” Yun Haoyan responded, then trailed after his father into the Yun household.
Yun Tiantian watched Yun Haoyan with concern. She knew he had stirred up trouble on her behalf.
She wanted to intercede for Yun Haoyan but was intimidated by her stern father, hesitating and remaining rooted to the spot.
In the patriarch’s study of the Yun family.
Yun Hai regarded Yun Haoyan, who seemed somehow different than before, with a mix of surprise and delight. Nonetheless, he maintained his paternal authority and asked coolly,
“Yun Haoyan, are you aware of the magnitude of trouble you’ve stirred up today?”
Previously, Yun Haoyan dreaded these lectures in the study, always meek and compliant. But now, he stood with an air of unyielding confidence, his gaze profound and his demeanor assured.
