"Are you alright?" Karakh asked, a little concerned.
Norakh nodded and said, "Yeah, I'm fine. Sit down, all of you."
When everybody sat down again, Bergorakh asked about the reward, seemingly much more interested in that rather than the wellbeing of their former leader.
Norakh took a moment to regain his composure before he said, "Let's not talk about the rewards, for now. I just remembered I'm not allowed to reveal anything about it to others. The Chieftain had ordered me against telling anyone or I will be dealt accordingly by our law."
Bergorakh and the other Barbarians immediately became disappointed when they heard him say that.
"Don't worry; you will get to know about it after this campaign comes to an end. Just make sure you perform better than the warriors under the other five elders and Chieftain's sons. Especially them if any one of you hopes to become a candidate for the next selection of the Chieftain for our tribe after Romethra Antral or issue the sacred Duel to replace him from his position. Karakh, I have very high expectations from you." Norakh said as he looked at
The Barbarians took Norakh's words at face value and didn't ask more. They were now eagerly waiting for the fight to start.. . except for Karakh. He felt something was amiss, something very wrong with Norakh behavior because he had never seen his mentor gives two shits about chieftains' orders before like this.
Norakh knew too well about his disciple, so he started giving them a few pointers about Barbarian fighting techniques to divert their attention from this topic that he had foolishly brought out to show off and raise their morale.
Alex, who was eavesdropping on them, felt a little annoyed. That elderly Barbarian stopped revealing the most crucial information that was the moving factor the Anthral tribe to side with Bardrick and attack the Humans settlement. But he wasn't disappointed. Even though he did not get the critical information, he at least got to know that there was something like an accord between Barbarians and Humans that stipulated against any war among them. Also, there was something about sacred Duel.
'I know too little about the Barbarians in this continent, except their language.. . Tagor!' Alex called out to his intelligence commander telepathically.
'Yes, my Lord,' answered the puppet.
'Find out all the information that the humans have collected about the Barbarians. You should be able to find that in the private libraries of the Lords that we have defeated. Prioritize finding information regarding the accord between Barbarians and Humans and the sacred Duel of the barbarians. Report to me about them as soon as possible.' Alex said in his mind.
'As you wish, my Lord.' Tagor replied and started commanding free puppets to head to the libraries of Nobles in different cities.
'Now, what should I do about this group. Kill them? Capture them? Force them back into the Caragan forest.. . or is there any way to have them surrender to me.' Alex thought in his mind.
He looked at the unruly behavior of the Barbarians around the camp. He immediately knew it would be tough to subjugate them by using coercion and not to mention he was a human. He hasn't heard anyone human forces having Barbarians work under them.
Alex kept on listening to Barbarian conversations to see if he could find anything of value, but he got no useful information after a long time. That is when he immediately chose to show himself.
.. .
While the Karakh and other six Barbarians had just finished their discussion, Bergorakh, the one with the smallest build among the seven Barbarian, noticed a black-robed person walking out from behind the tent and heading towards them.
"Who are you?" Bergorakh yelled as he removed his scimitar from its sheath. Karakh, Norakh, and the other four barbarians also stood up and turned to face the intruder.
Barbarians usually wear clothes made out of beast skin, and mainly they only cover their lower body. The unknown person was clearly wearing human clothes and somehow managed to arrive in the middle of their camp without alerting them.
Alex removed his cloak and showed his face, of course not his true face. Before coming out, he had changed facial and body structure to match that of a typical barbarian.
With a faint smile, Alex introduced himself in the language of the Barbarian with a new identity, "Please, be at ease. I came with no ill intention. My name is.. . Thor"
Even though Alex tried to look as friendly as possible, the barbarians still unsheathed their weapons and aimed at him with wariness in their eyes.
"Why did you not come through the entrance if you had no ill intention?" taking a step forward, Karakh questioned.
The barbarian leader did not lower his weapon, nor did he drop his guard because his instinct was screaming that man standing in front of him was dangerous.
The whole camp was alarmed, and those barbarians that were training nearby or doing other stuff had started to circle around the trespasser after they heard the first shout of their Chief.
"I only came here to pass you a message," Alex said calmly, ignoring that more than a hundred Barbarians had already assembled and were ready to butcher him on the first command of their chief.
"What message?" Karakh asked again.
"The message is that the human chief of this city, who had brought you all here to fight his enemies is already dead. So the whole alliance that he had formed with your tribe is null and void." Thor said causing Karakh to frown heavily and creating a commotion among the barbarians.
"Don't listen to him. He must be lying." Bergorakh shouted, causing the commotion to calm down.
"You can choose not to believe me, but you will know of the truth soon enough," Alex said and smiled soon after because he got a new message from his puppet. Lady Bardrick has been successful in making her brother and a few other officials who managed the city surrender as for the rest of tried to do otherwise were captured or killed directly.
