Shi Mu scanned the surrounding with his Spirit Sense and his expression fell even more.
Not only was this particular school of toadphins numbered at about a hundred, at least seven or eight of them were Earth-rank, while the majority of them were about Xian Tian level.
His eyes widened a little as he turned in the direction from where he came, his face wrought with a brief expression of fright. He gritted his teeth and grabbed his green cloak before putting it on. Now hat he had concealed his presence, he darted toward the reefs nearby.
Shi Mu waved, producing a setup tool for formation and recited an incantation. With a point, small flags and a disc flew out and drowned into the water around the reefs.
Pulses of magic rippled through the area, but they faded very quickly.
One of the toadphins that had just broken through the water seemed to have sensed something as it turned to the direction of the pulses, but it didn't see anything strange at the moment. Toadphins weren't exactly known for their intelligence, and this one fit the stereotype—it very quickly decided that there was nothing there and submerged back into the sea with a flip.
Half an hour later, the entire territory was shrouded with a fog dense enough to obscure one from seeing their own fingers. The shroud of fog covered the toadphins' habitat. In spite of the fog, the sea was completely calm.
A golden light sped toward the territory at a terrifying speed. The light receded, revealing Ao Zu. He looked a bit worn out by this point, but after a quick glance around the area with a frown, he shut his eyes, sensing the environment for a while before a cold smirk broke onto his face.
"Fool!" He swung his arm.
Tscch!
A pillar of golden light shot out of his hand toward the white fog, which started to roll as a white drape of light surfaced from within.
The golden pillar struck the white drape, causing it to flicker. The drape seemed unable to hold itself against the attack as it collapsed within minutes. The golden pillar smashed through the drape and passed it, disappearing into the fog.
Snap!
A sonorous clank echoed from the earth as if something underneath had been shattered. The fog drifted apart, barring a single coral reef jutting out of the sea.
It was then when a single green silhouette darted out from there trying to flee toward the fog. Judging from the figure's shape and outline, it was Shi Mu.
"Where do you think you're going?!"
Ao Zu sneered and swung his arms, shooting out dazzling golden lights into several crescent-shaped blades that spun toward Shi Mu. At the same time, Ao Zu himself turned into a single dart of golden light and gave chase.
A fiery aura expanded out from Shi Mu's back and extended into a pair of flame wings. Just like that, he hastened his pace and merged into the fog beyond with a trail of red.
The golden crescent-shaped blades followed, fading into the white fog as well.
Ao Zu's eyebrow furrowed. A loud clasp blasted through the white fog, its brilliance and shockwave tearing through the fog and toward all sides. The air became turbulent while a cyclone was formed.
With the fog snipped into pieces, they quickly faded—
"Aurghh! Aurrgh!"
Angry roars rang from below as a dozen of ugly black leviathans surfaced. It was the toadphins!
Among them, however, Shi Mu had already vanished from sight.
Ao Zu frowned, stopping himself mid-action.
The toadphins turned to look at Ao Zu before emitting a sharp string of angry cries and charging straight at him. Black luster reflected from their skin as they rubbed against each other. In a sec, the air was filled with rumbles of thunder not unlike a stampede of thousands of stallions.
An endless stream of blue orbs sprouted from the surface of the water and hurled themselves at Ao Zu. The blue orbs shimmered with light, each of them as flighty as ball lightning.
"Divine Bloom Bombs!" Ao Zu's eyebrows creased.
The blue orbs spread wide without any space in between like densely-packed rain, with nowhere for Au Zo to escape.
It didn't seem to be troubled by it though. All it did was spreading its arms wide, radiating big droves of golden lights into a single shroud hanging before itself. The shroud had barely taken shape when the blue orbs pelted against it.
The orbs exploded in succession, interjecting blue lights into the golden shroud. The shroud shimmered, showing itself to be a bit unstable.
Ao Zu was crossed. With a swing of his sleeve, a golden pillar shot out of his arm toward the school of toadphins. As it reached them, the lights exploded into a shower of luminous golden blades.
It was then when one of the most cacophonous screeches emitted from deep within the throat of a toadphin. The blue orbs stopped crashing into the shroud and instead turned to the golden blades.
Boom boom boom!
The golden sword beams and the blue orbs collided into a concert of low rumbles. Sparks of blue and gold interweaved each other into a dazzling mesh, showcasing the two to be quite equal in power as their loud racket spread a few hundred miles away.
Ao Zu's face darkened and amplified the force of the golden pillars, causing them to become even thicker than they usually were. In turn, the golden blades enlarged as well as grew in numbers.
The blue orbs were quickly subdued while surplus golden blades continued to rain down on the toadphins, walling them into a corner.
Bloodcurdling whimpers rang out of the golden lights as blocs of black leviathan bodies bobbed on the surface. The sea had quickly turned red!
Ao Zu smirked. How dare a school of simple animals think they could show off to the mighty Jiao dragon?
It was then when the sea underneath his feet suddenly rumbled. With a loud crash, seven to eight large black figures broke out of the water—it was the Earth-stage toadphins!
Frightening scars could be seen engraved on their skins while blood gushed out of their gashes. Despite that, they did not look like they were in any critical danger.
They were, however, dangerous. Their eyes were bloodshot as feral bloodlust took over them—without any hesitation, they charged toward Ao Zu.
The target of their hostility himself did not back away from the herd. Instead, his left hand flashed with golden light before forming a golden talon swiping at the water sprout.
Tsch! Tscch!
The talon split into five crescent-shaped blades flying to five directions, each aiming at five of the toadphins in his vicinity. In an instant, the toadphins were rended into halves, blood and innards spilling out of the opening before they completely lost any sense of life.
Roar!
The remaining three toadphins belted out a loud, livid cry. They opened their jaws wide and shot three jet-black beams at Ao Zu. The beams had not even reached the target when a thick gamy smell perforated the air.
This was the first time Ao Zu showed concern in his expression. He gracefully took a backward stride, unwilling to be caught in the crossfire of the black light beams.
Just then, there was a ruffle in the space behind Ao Zu's back.
A single figure, covered by silver armor from head to toe, rose behind him like a phantom, wielding a single black rod. It was Yan Luo!
As soon as Yan Luo appeared, she instantly swiped her rod toward Ao Zu, causing a thick, lustrous apparition of the black rod to strike his back.
Ao Zu, stuck on the backward momentum of dodging the toadphin's attacks, couldn't sidestep Yan Luo's attack!
Bang! His body flew into the air and was promptly hit by three shots of black light beams!
The beams exploded into a large cloud of black smoke, ensnaring Ao Zu.
"Roar!"
With a battle cry, the three toadphins rushed into the black smog. A few roars punctuated the air together with sounds of collision—the smog was too thick for anyone outside to peer into, however.
With her first blow landing successfully, Yan Luo shifted her attention to the black smog, Her body blurred, and she shot backwards.
It was then when golden rays of light broke the smog like a burst of sunlight tearing through the clouds.
When it cleared, the three toadphins were smacked down from within the smog, their bodies already in portions. They were beyond dead!
In the dazzling golden light, Ao Zu had already reverted to his original Jiao dragon form. Despite that, some parts of his body had been blackened as a thick gamy smell oozed out of the wounds—sure signs that Ao Zu had been stricken by some of the venom.
The golden Jiao dragon let out a livid cry as it strained its attention on Yan Luo, standing far away. "Well done… Well bloody done! You manage to dredge up a dead spirit worth a golden spirit orb!"
Shi Mu grimaced in exasperation. He had exhausted everything at his disposal—including his ultimate trump card, Yan Luo herself—and still it dealt very little blow to Ao Zu.
"Hey, Yan Luo?" Shi Mu whispered telepathically. "Do you think you can finish this ugly over here?"
The reply was curt and swift. "No."
Shi Mu froze, then let out a helpless laugh.
Yan Luo turned to spy a glance at him, her eyes seemingly twinkling.
With a wave of her hand, a black bookstand-like object made of stone appeared before her—it was the Fallen Angel Desk, but this time it radiated dazzling black lights like a bizzare sun.
The Fallen Angel Desk emanated a terrible deadly aura. Shi Mu gawked at it, almost unable to recognize it.
He wasn't;t the only one perturbed by its sight—Ao Zu, too, looked aghast. It wriggled its body and shot toward Yan Luo.
Shi Mu's eyes twitched at Ao Zu's action—in a flash, his body was covered with golden draconic scales as he dashed before Yan Luo, his hand already pulling out his black Meteoric Iron blade and resting it defensively before his chest.
"Eager to die, huh?!"
Ao Zu was even more apoplectic at Shi Mu's reaction. With a furious cry, it increases its speed to a frightening degree
Yan Luo's eyes twinkled at Shi Mu's action. She started to mutter an incantation and pointed at the Fallen Angel Desk. In response, grey light poured out of it!
Countless undead creatures appeared, blocking Ao Zu's path in a tight pack of millions.
Shi Mu's mouth hung open. Although he had seen Liu An and his goons performing the same feat back in Heavenly Yu city before, they did so with all of their might plus a massive, complex and exhaustive formation aided with a large sum of rare stones; but now, Yan Luo did that with a wave of her hand through the Fallen Angel Desk!
More importantly, all of these creatures seemed to possess a significant amount of combat prowess… they must have been the elites from Yan Luo's army!
Among million of common undead creatures, there were ten odd Earth rank ones with them as well. The crystal skeleton that Shi Mu had captured from before was also standing among them, with a towering skeleton, covered in black armor and wielding a black sword, standing next to the former.
It was Wu Ye, revived by Yan Luo using an unknown technique…
