Chapter 1310 Will Of Elder (6)
The invasion of the Great Desert was on a very tight schedule, it all depended on how long Staff could carry the runic formation, and her estimate was three seconds. It was not a long time nor was it a short one either, it was just enough.
Two of those seconds had passed, and the first objective had succeeded, locating and marking the memories of Thenos, but the second one had failed, and they had no more time left, as the third second rapidly approached.
The Lady of Shadows showed no deep concern over the failure to locate any traces of these Primordial Beasts, even when she knew how important this would have been for Rowan, and that was because Rowan had already anticipated such a thing, and he would not easily give up under the first sign of failure, locating something that was never meant to exist was bound to be difficult.
With a loud crackling sound like thunder, the third second came by, and Andar was squeezed into a dot by the power of the Great Desert and was expelled, even Eva who was in a separate dimension was being squeezed out of this reality and in a few moments she would be sent away, and the only person that was seemingly not affected by all of this, was Staff.
The power of the formation that had been imbued in her body was slowly fading away, and her impressive miles-high physique was shrinking, and yet the banishing power of Oblivion could not touch her because of one reason, the staff she held in her hand that was forcefully stabilizing the space around her.
Now blazing with powers that could barely be contained, the staff let out sizzles of lightning of all colors, and its shape no longer resembled wood, but a shimmering bar of violent energy on the brink of eruption.
The power of Oblivion that had banished Andar was pressing against Staff focusing on her lone figure with clear intent of malice, unlike the others that had escaped from its grasp, Oblivion wanted to kill this woman. Originally the forces of Oblivion were not like this, it had maintained a dispassionate outlook on its surroundings, but over the countless eons, the trait of its master Nemesis had seeped into it.
However, the power Staff had accumulated in these three seconds was so extreme that it had exceeded the scope of what her present cultivation could contain many times over, and no matter how much Oblivion pressed down upon her, it could not break this barrier of space that surrounded her, because there was a hint of perfection in her technique at this moment, one that was close to what her father had achieved in the past.
Borrowing the power of the runic formation had allowed Staff to handle all of this power, but now that the formation was breaking down, the load on her consciousness was reaching impossible heights, however, Staff was grinning, she could sense the malice of Oblivion and knew all its attention was on her, and so she responded in kind.
"Hey, Oblivion, you had your fun killing so many of those lovely Angels did you not? Although they have someone else who would champion their cause and make you really pay for what you did, there is nothing stopping me from collecting a little interest before then. Did I not tell you that before this day was over I will violate you with my staff, let it not be said that I am not a woman of my word…."
As she continued shrinking further with the energy from the runic formation in her body nearly exhausted, she raised her staff overhead, and softly called out, "Take… my… staff," she swung down and the end of the staff lightly touched the sands, and at first it seemed that nothing had happened, and then Oblivion… it wailed! A sound that was so piercing and filled with pain that it crossed over dimensions to reach its master.

Andar had been banished by the power of Oblivion, but with the traces of the formation power still left inside the body of Staff, he was able to see the final moments they had inside the Great Desert.
The body of Staff and her weapon had shrunken to her normal height, and then she lightly swung that staff that resembled a furious lance of lightning to the sand, and then there was a loud crack, it was so extremely loud but it did not stop the sound of the Desert screaming from reaching his ears.
That sound was as if the spine of a gigantic beast had been forcefully bent and broken, all in one single motion, and that sentiment seemed to prevail as the desert was broken!
From the point where her staff touched the sands, a massive rupture appeared that was extremely deep to the extent that it reached the bottom of the Great Desert, and like an unwinding stream, this rupture continued to grow, crossing countless miles.
The sound of the desert being torn apart was extremely horrific, and the wails from Oblivion never ceased, as this horrifying rupture crossed almost a third of the Great Desert before it stopped its unrelenting charge.
The size of the desert could fit more than a million universes, and its materials were made from much sterner stuff. If this move had been unleashed by Staff in the Great Darkness against the many universes residing inside of it, then the level of destruction would have been unimaginable.
It was easy to forget that the most devastating part of her powers was not that she was able to absorb all forms of energy, but as Fury had learned when he challenged her in the past, Staff could give out that energy and more importantly, she could magnify it!
In simple terms, she could absorb ten units of force and then spit out a hundred units of force. This talent made no sense in the larger scheme of things because she was basically creating energy out of nothing, and that was what made her talent so useful to Rowan, because, unlike any immortals he knew, Staff was indeed generating power out of nothing, more precisely, from the Nothingness that surrounded all of reality.
The only immortals in existence that could pull power from the Nothingness were World Bearers, and this process was largely an automatic affair, where the power was meant to simply maintain their dimensions in the Nothingness and they could not wield it. Staff, on the other hand, could pull power directly from the Nothingness, and she only needed to absorb energy from the outside world as a primer.
To break the Great Desert was the final step in Rowan's plan, and to do this, a lot of power was needed, and this power was so extreme that even Staff connection to the Nothingness would not be enough to supply her with what she needed, not in the three-second window that they had to work with, and so the World Stele had further helped to deepen Staff's connection to the Nothingness, allowing her in these brief moment to pull all the power that she needed, because the act of breaking the Great Desert could allow the inhabitants inside to escape.
This was the outcome that the Great Stele wanted, and also this was what Rowan was looking forward to because breaking the Great Desert would reveal its roots, and finally, Rowan was able to find the traces of the Primordial Beasts.
