The City/Hall’s officers started urging, “When will Mr. Everett arrive? We still have to process marriage registrations for other couples, and we can’t delay for too long!”
“Just give him a little more time. He’ll be here soon,” Mr. Jameson quickly reassured the officers.
In the blink of an eye, another twenty minutes had passed.
It was already half past three.
“Mrs. Everett, it’s already half past three. We can’t wait any longer,” the officers said as they stood up.
“Yes, time is pressing. We have to move on to the next couple.”
“Mr. Philips, please wait a bit longer!”
“We can’t wait anymore…”
“Please, just a little longer!” Mr. Jameson pleaded.
The officers replied with some distress, “We can wait for another twenty minutes at most. If Mr. Everett doesn’t make it back by then, we’ll have to reschedule for next week.”
