Jadie’s eyes welled up with tears. She then hugged him from behind while sobbing. She cried, “Zach, do you know how much I envy Madelyn? To see how the person she loves also loves her back unconditionally? She is able to be engaged with the person she likes.”

“I also want to be with you forever, too, Zach, just like her. I want to be your wife forevermore. But… why can’t you like me back?” Jadie asked.

Although Zach’s back was hot, his heart seemed like it had frozen over. He replied, “Jadie, I’m not as good as you think. There are many things that you still don’t understand.”

Jadie clutched his waist tightly and did not let go. She screamed, “No! You will always be the best in my eyes. I don’t need to understand or care what kind of person you are. I want to stay by your side, become your wife, and give birth to your children. You promised you would give me a family. You can’t go back on your words, Zach.”

His suit was soaking as Jadie’s tears seeped into it. Zach turned around and wiped her tears with his hand. He comforted her,” Besides marriage, I can promise you anything. Anything but that. I still have other matters to attend to. As for a relationship- It wouldn’t suit us. I also have no plans to create a family.”

“Don’t deceive me with those words. And don’t talk to me about you having no plans to make a family. You’re lying to me! I’m not a child anymore. I saw you kiss Madelyn at the Jent residence. There’s also tonight at the dinner table; I can see all your expressions. It’s all because of Madelyn. You can trick yourself, but you can’t trick me,” Jadie said as her tears flowed. She was devastated.

“You actually like Madelyn, right? Even if I wanted to kiss you, you would always dodge me. Being with me is just an act. Since you don’t like me, why did you agree to be with me?”

Zach’s expression fell as he responded, “If you want an answer, I can give it to you.”

“Yes,” Jadie answered.

“What I have for you is the feeling of responsibility as a sibling. I’m not suitable for you. You’ll understand what I mean someday,” Zach explained.

Jadie listened to his answer in shock. Her empty eyes blinked as she felt her heart shattered into millions of pieces.

“So… you’ve been lying to me this whole time,” Jadie croaked.

Zach responded, “Jadie, you still have a long way to go. I won’t be the only person by your side…”

Jadie replied, “But I just want to be with you. If you don’t want me, what else is there for me to live for…”

Jadie shoved Zach to the side and swiftly ran into the kitchen. She took a knife and slit her arm.

“Jadie!” Zach bellowed.

Jadie had locked the kitchen door, and she had a sad smile. She asked him, “Zach, you can start falling in love with other people once I die, okay?”

“Jadie, don’t make me do this,” Zach warned her while furrowing his eyebrows.

Jadie rambled, “I love you too much, Zach. You’re the only one I have in my family since we were young. Without you, I might’ve died when I was ten. I can’t accept you liking someone else. Rather than watching you be together with another woman, I would rather let this moment stay forever. Maybe that way, you will always remember me.”

“Dying like this is fine, too,” She whispered. Blood trickled down her thin arm and splashed onto the smooth tiles on the floor. Her blood gushed out rapidly, and her face became ashen almost immediately. She was wobbling and about to faint.

On the other side, Zach had a grim expression on his face. He kicked down the door and held onto Jadie just as she was fainting. He stared at the wound on her arm coldly.
