Chapter 309 If that's your final resolve, my little girl...
"Young miss, here are the prescriptions for your pregnancy. Please take good care of yourself and don't overexert yourself so you won't harm the child inside you. Again, congratulations Madam and Mr. Yang." Sliding a piece of note on the table opposite him, Doctor Xu then shifted his attention to both expecting grandparents.
"Thank you, Doctor Xu. Sorry for calling you out on short notice." Nodding his head once, Frederick Yang replied as he didn't want to show his jubilant side as of yet.
"It's my pleasure. Anyway, I know a trusted gynecologist for further tests as well as an accurate examination of the young miss." Doctor Xu paused as he handed out a calling card he fished out from inside his briefcase, Frederick Yang received the small card containing the information of his recommendations. "She's really good in her field and has her own clinic at her home. She only receives clients by appointment— I will arrange an appointment for you. She's the best gynecologist to use especially if you prefer to keep the young miss' pregnancy a secret."
"Then, I'll have to bother you. Thank you, Doctor Xu." Nodding in agreement, Frederick Yang conversed with the doctor a little bit more before he personally sent him off.
Meanwhile, Lexi remained silent the whole time as she looked at the prescription to keep herself and the child inside her healthy. Until now, everything felt so surreal. She could not help but wonder if there was indeed a growing person inside her tummy as she instinctively caressed her stomach hoping to feel the fruit of her and Ethan Lu's love.
On the other hand, Lillian Yang's gaze softened as she watched her daughter have this normal reaction which is common for expecting mothers like her. She knew that Lexi must have a thousand thoughts circulating inside her mind plus all of the emotions combined into one must be the reason for her quietness.
"Dear…" Softly calling out, Lillian Yang gently placed her palm on top of Lexi's hand that was on her stomach that made her raise her head to meet her mother's loving pair of eyes. "It is amazing, right? Carrying a little child inside our body… aren't our bodies wonderful?"
"Mom…" Biting her bottom lip, the corner of her eyes started to form liquid upon hearing her mother. Aside from fear, Lexi was surprisingly moved for this child's presence inside her. Now, everything made sense why her emotions always got stirred up recently, especially when the father of her child was around. Moreover, it was the fruit of her and Ethan Lu's endless love, hence, she indeed felt that this child was a blessing that she instinctively wanted to protect upon knowing its existence.
"I am—" Without even finishing what she was about to say, Lexi choked as her tempting tears finally set loose, staining her cheeks as hiccups soon followed.
Granted that she was indeed happy about the baby's existence, her fear was just as strong as her happiness. Furthermore, in front of her mother, this reassuring atmosphere they had at this house, the walls around her that she set for others to never intrude upon, broke down without a trace.
"Shh… that's fine," Pulling her into her motherly embrace, Lillian Yang patted her daughter's back as a subtle smile formed on the side of her lips. "You will be a great mother… I just know it." She added as she coaxed her emotional child who was now bearing her own child.
Just then, Frederick Yang came back and saw that Lexi was already breaking down— uncertain if it was tears of joy or she was scared. Nevertheless, although Frederick Yang was indeed beyond glad about the thought of having a new family member, he was concerned about one thing.
"Lexi," After clearing his throat, Frederick Yang perched at the head seat again and called his daughter's name. "Where's Ethan?" Without further ado, Frederick Yang asked. Although he knew that it was Ethan Lu's official take over as he personally invited them to attend, Frederick Yang sensed that something must have happened because his daughter chose to reach out to them about this matter and didn't confirm it with Ethan Lu.
"Fred, not today please." Lillian Yang raised her head and lightly shook her head sideways as if she knew where her husband was going with this line of questioning after asking about Ethan Lu's whereabouts.
"Mom, it's fine." Wiping her tears and sniffing her nose, Lexi forced a smile on her face. "Dad, Mom, I want to discuss with you about something." Altering her gaze from her father to her mother, Lexi finally opened up about her real reasons as to why she suddenly dropped by.
"I met Ethan's grandfather earlier and…" Mustering her courage, Lexi felt nervous as she already decided and even if her parents were against it or had second thoughts, she would have to disobey them again.
"... he told me, or rather, he showed me how it is to be a part of the Lu family— it was terrifying, it scared me but…" Lexi paused for a moment as she recalled all the scenes she witnessed earlier and the deadly vibe that surrounded her. "...but, aside from that, I want to help him out in that family."
Frederick Yang properly scrutinized the expression of his daughter with a solemn face. He knew one of these days, the two of them would face such a dilemma in the future because the Lu family wasn't a so-so family. Even with all of the power the Yang family has, they would never compare to that kind of long-established clan that had remained at the top of the social ladder for such a long time.
"I see…" Pausing for a moment, Frederick Yang glanced at his wife before continuing. "If that's your final resolve, my little girl, then, your Mother and I will always be here for the both of you." When Lexi and Frederick Yang's eyes met, father yang could only let out a deep exhale before he nodded in understanding and gave his blessing. On the other hand, Lillian Yang gave a subtle smile upon hearing her husband and how he approved of this long-running discussion that the two had ever since.
