The Strongest Conquest System

Chapter 279: For The Best...

Chapter 279: For The Best...

.....

'For the best It would be for the best'

Calista's thoughts swirled around as tears started to bubble up within her eyes yet again.

*Sigh*

An exasperated sigh escaped Azmond as he looked toward the teary-eyed girl with a tired countenance.

"Why do you always have that look on your face?"

"Wh-What look?"

Calista's misty eyes had already made their way up the tall figure of Azmond as question marks filled her head.

She could've sworn that she asked him when he would be dropping her off, so how did the conversation suddenly become something else??

"You know. That look like you're willing to shoulder everything all by yourself. The look that is just begging for a way out. That look," Azmond responded while his finger pointed out a mirror.

"I-I still don-" Calista started to say.

But as soon as she turned her head toward the mirror, she immediately realized what he was talking about.

'Th-That is my face...?'

Her features looked worn out, but more than that, they appeared hollow.

In a figurative sense, it was like she was stuckstuck in an inescapable pit that she had no way of getting out of.

And it only took a mirror for her to realize that she was truly and utterly alonealone in a pit full of nothing but self-loathing and hate.

Calista had blamed herself for the disappearances of her Father and Big Sis.

She had assumed it was her fault that they left her.

She thought that maybe, just maybe...

Just maybe they would come back and bring her with them if she were good enough or if she were submissive enough.

But they never came...

The weather in the city of Astralopolis suddenly became cloudy with a chance of rain, as within a modest-appearing room, a young 13-year-old girl with long white hair and creamy eyes let out all the tears she had till there was nothing left to cry.

And the one who took on the brunt force of such a broken dam was a tall, immortal-like man with long, raven black hair and kind blue eyes.

His silver and gold robes had already been completely soaked once again, but he couldn't care less about such a thing.

What he was more worried about was the troubled girl who collapsed in his arms.

...

|The poor girl|

Even Boundless's eyes started to become a little puffy as she sympathized greatly with the girl. After all, she was the first one to read her 'background information'.

She had been laying on top of Azmond's back the entire time he had been talking to the girl, so she had witnessed firsthand all the stages of grief she went through in such a short period of time.

She may not be human or even a living being like either of them, but even she understood that going through such things at an age where one should be playing in parks would only allow for the kid in question to be able to take so much before eventually breaking down entirely.

And Calista hadn't simply been alone and afraid for a few days or weeks; she had no one but herself for the last 11 months!

She had survived day to day by eating moldy scraps she found lying around the villages on the Anglerfant.

Her realm was only at the peak of the Qi Condensation Realm, and although she needed less food than a mortal to survive, her body still required it nonetheless.

In fact, when Azmond had found Calista, she was practically nothing but skin and bones, and it was only due to the constant 'minor heal' casts that she was able to recover to a normal weight.

Which all went to say that her life after her family 'abandoned her' had not been easy.

But something started to change in Calista's dreary and gray life as a certain 'God' appeared one fateful day.

And her life would continue to take many twists and turns from that point on, as her story would not end with her curled up in a ball, simply waiting to die.

A few hours passed by as Calista and Azmond had barely moved from their spots.

One would cry, and one would calm her down.

Such a dynamic lasted for quite a long time, as Azmond had even brought tea over at some point during his time with Calista.

He had offered her some of it, and after a few seconds of convincing, she eventually started to drink some; however, such a thing only seemed to make the tears fall even faster.

Such a simple gesture must've meant quite a lot to her.

'A tough life indeed,' Azmond muttered to Boundless.

|Are we going to take her with us?|

'Why, of course. After all, her identity is quite special, so we'll be able to benefit from this.'

His response came with an excuse, but Boundless wasn't buying it!

|You are too nice for your own good, Azmond!|

Boundless's bubbly voice sounded out with a wide, radiant grin as she rubbed her face up against his.

'What do you mean by that!? I'm not being nice; I'm simply doing this for my own gain,' Azmond retorted.

|Heh~, You can't fool me with that 'I only do things for myself' attitude! I know how big your heart is!| She giggled, her hands moving throughout his robes.

'You are simply delusional.'

Following such a diluted response, he turned his attention back to Calista before resuming his conversation with her.

Azmond had already resolved himself to 'assist' her, and he had a lot of work ahead of him if he wished to help the pitiful girl get through the mental blockage she found herself in.

A few days passed by.

Calista had eventually become accustomed to being around Azmond after spending so much time together.

It had reached such a point that she had even started to eat food again!

That once gray and black glass she viewed the world through had already gained back some color, as the longer she spent around him, the better life seemed to her.
