Before leaving the Jiang residence, Jiang Xing gave Tang Beibei a red packet, and she accepted it.
She didn’t need to feel guilty about accepting money from her father-in-law.
After they got into the car, she opened her red packet and said with a smile to Jiang Jingchen, “I used to dream about getting red packets during Lunar New Year when 1 was a kid. I didn’t expect to receive a red packet when I’m all grown up.”
When she saw ten pieces of 100-yuan notes inside, she was very surprised.
Jiang Jingchen’s eyes and face were cold when he looked at the cash Tang Beibei was holding.
It was the first time Tang Beibei met her parents-in-law during a new year as their daughter-in-law. A red packet of only 1,000 yuan was very small. This meant that her parents-in-law didn’t like her and looked down on her.
However, Jiang Jingchen couldn’t care less about whether the Jiangs liked his wife.
“You like red packets?”
“Of course. Red packets are for good luck.”
Tang Beibei put her red packet into her bag and took out two brand new ones she had prepared for Song Zhou and Ruan Qi.
The days were short in winter and when night fell, the city became very lively.
Jiang Jingchen stopped the car and took her to a nice park for a stroll.
Tang Beibei tightened her coat around her and held his arm. “It’s so cold. Is it going to snow?”
“Possible.”
Jiang Jingchen looked at the cloudy sky.
Tang Beibei nodded and said with a smile, “It’s good to have snow. Auspicious snow brings a bountiful year.”
Jiang Jingchen was stunned for a second before he looked down at her.
“If it’s too cold, let’s just go home.”
“It’s not too cold. Let’s walk for a bit. Hehe.” She was enjoying her alone time with him.
The two of them strolled around and saw many young couples and families. Everyone was probably out for a walk with their children after reunion dinner.
She suddenly felt the man’s hand squeezing hers. Tang Beibei looked up at him in confusion, but Jiang Jingchen looked in the distance as if nothing had happened.
Tang Beibei smiled and snuggled up to him.
He was the person she loved. Just holding hands and strolling with him made her happy.
When the two of them were about to go home, fine snowflakes suddenly fell from the sky. Tang Beibei reached out to catch them. The snowflakes melted in her palm, and the coldness made her shiver.
Bang!
The sky was suddenly filled with a single shot of fireworks, like a prelude, because more fireworks exploded in the dark sky, creating beautiful vines with night-blooming cereus at the ends of every branch.
Fireworks were banned in the city, including in residential areas, but there would always be designated places where people could organize fireworks displays on special occasions like Lunar New Year.
Tang Beibei looked at the sky and smiled happily. She tugged at the man beside her.
“Hubby, look, fireworks!”
“You like it?”
“Very much so!”
Although cold wind was blowing, the fireworks in the sky were so bright and gorgeous.
Jiang Jingchen looked at her tiny face. Her smile that was illuminated by the colorful fireworks was as bright as the winter sun.
“I’ll buy some for you too.”
“No need, no need. It’s enough to just look at others’ fireworks displays. Buying fireworks costs a lot of money. I’d rather use the money to get more food.”
Although she liked how beautiful fireworks looked, she could not bear to buy them.
It was just like she couldn’t bear to buy a beautiful dress she liked when she saw one.
Jiang Jingchen didn’t say anything. He took out his phone and sent Song Zhou a message.
After admiring the fireworks display for a while, Tang Beibei saw a couple kiss and the girl was making moaning sounds. She blushed and tugged at Jiang Jingchen’s coat.
Jiang Jingchen looked at her indifferently and covered her eyes with his hand.
Tang Beibei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “I’m not asking you to cover my eyes. I just want, I just want, um…” She wanted to leave so the kissing couple wouldn’t be disturbed.
However, Jiang Jingchen kissed her as he wrapped his arms around her waist very tightly.
“Obedient Beibei, you don’t have to think too much when you want to kiss me.”
The two of them got into the car and drove home. Tang Beibei covered her burning face. Her ears were already red.
Jiang Jingchen parked the car near the gate and didn’t drive up to the house.
Tang Beibei got out of the car in confusion. After walking a few steps, she heard a pop in front of her, as if someone was lighting firecrackers. Tang Beibei was so scared that she hid behind Jiang Jingchen.
However, after a few seconds, there was no piercing sound of firecrackers. Instead, there were fireworks shooting up into the sky.
They looked like sparks in the sky at first but then they exploded to create colorful bursts and patterns, like trees growing branches in the sky.
“Beibei, Happy New Year!” Ruan shouted.
After the first burst, the entire courtyard was lit up by multiple bursts and Tang Beibei was surrounded by fireworks.
She felt like she was standing below a starry sky and the starlight had all kinds of colors.
Tang Beibei looked around in surprise. She was so happy that she wanted to jump for joy.
“It’s so beautiful. Qiqi, Happy New Year!”
Jiang Jingchen turned to face Tang Beibei and held her hands. “Take good care of me in the new year, Obedient Beibei.”
The warmth from the man’s palms was transmitted to her, all the way into her heart. A warm feeling then grew in her heart and emanated to her entire being.
She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him on the lips.
“Brother Jing, new year, new beginning. 1 wish you a smooth-sailing, healthy and peaceful year ahead.”
Jiang Jingchen’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down when he suddenly heard her all him Brother Jing. He wanted to kiss her.
The 20-second fireworks display ended.
Tang Beibei ran up to Ruan Qi with a handful of sparklers. She lit them before handing a few to Ruan Qi.
Ruan Qi suggested that they make a new year video for their vlog. The two of them filmed a short segment of new year wishes before they did a simple new year dance. They then sent the video to Song Zhou for editing before they posted it.
After playing for a while in the courtyard, the four of them went into the house to watch the Spring Festival Gala, which was the biggest national show on television every new year. Dances that were picked for the show were definitely the best in the country, so the girls wanted to catch them.
However, Tang Beibei fell asleep leaning on Jiang Jingchen after barely two performances and during a very noisy skit.
Ruan Qi gave her a thumbs-up. “I didn’t believe Beibei when she said that she slept well.”
Jiang Jingchen chuckled. When it came to sleep, his wife definitely fell asleep quickly. Sometimes when they were doing it, she said she wanted to sleep and very soon she would be asleep on top of him.
He got up and carried her upstairs. Ruan Qi asked from behind him, “Do you want me to help Beibei remove her makeup? She shouldn’t sleep with makeup on, it’s bad for the skin.”
“Hmm,” Jiang Jingchen responded, but Ruan Qi had no idea what he meant. Did he need her help or not?
She got up and was about to follow him upstairs when Song Zhou pulled her back.
“Young Master will help Young Madam. Don’t worry about it.”
“Does he know how to do it?”
“Probably.” Song Zhou had never seen him do it before, so he hesitated. But then he added, “He already knows how to soak Young Madam’s feet. It’s won’t be too difficult for him to clean her face.”
Ruan Qi looked at him doubtfully to check if he was kidding. Jiang Jingchen knew how to soak Tang Beibei’s feet?
Upstairs, Jiang Jingchen put the woman on the bed and went into the bathroom to get something to remove her makeup.
Although he had removed her makeup before, he was still not familiar with the process. He poured too much makeup remover on the cotton pad and spilled it on the carpet. He quickly wiped it with a tissue and was a little flustered.
He had never been so helpless even when dealing with a business contract worth hundreds of millions of yuan.
The cotton pad felt a little cold on Tang Beibei’s face and she opened her eyes in a daze and asked him what he was doing.
“I’m cleaning food,” Jiang Jingchen replied.
“Huh? What food?”
The corners of Jiang Jingchen’s eyes and mouth curved into a smile.
“You, who suits my taste and satiates me.”
