Usually, only thirty or so skeleton wizards wouldn't change the flow of the battle that much. Even more so when Aion used all of his improvement points to enhance only his death knights. However, they gave Aion enough time to stop and meditate. When the enemy soldiers finally began to approach and kill them, Aion had enough time to summon others. With every minute, he could summon three more of them since they consumed only thirty mana points.
The battle got as chaotic as it could have been since Aion summoned skeleton wizards behind the enemy's lines. And since he was so close, then enemies thought that they could defeat him at any moment… However, eventually, their numbers decreased to the point that half of the battalions had been annihilated, and Aion had yet to suffer a single injury.
When the enemies realized that they would never reach him, they froze on the spot… To make things worse, until now, they didn't see the armored warriors that stopped them during the day or the three scarlet tigers…
"Retreat! Total retreat!" A soldier shouted.
Someone gave that order. In the end, the archer and the swordsman never showed up. Aion wondered if they were on the battlefields in the south… He wanted to make them into death knights, but it seemed that such a thing might not happen.
Chasing the enemies in the darkness of the night would be the same as asking to fall for a trap, so Aion didn't do that. Instead, he used his final card. The enemies that escaped the camp suddenly were attacked by something in the darkness. Those who had torches illuminated the path ahead and revealed the presence of the death knights. That was the worst possible situation for them… They were surrounded on three fronts.
The scarlet tigers were there as well and began to spam fireballs. While focusing on protecting themselves as much as possible, the enemies tried to run away while their allies were being hunted by the death knights. In fact, they used that as a chance to escape… It was the only way for them. Around fifteen hundred of them escaped, while Aion captured ten or so of them for questioning. The others were decimated, through and through.
"I should increase the size of the walls of the port and garrison the skeletons there, but I should use them only here and at night," Aion thought.
That was another idea that Aion had to make the existence of the skeletons even more mysterious and scary… Are they there, or aren't they? That sure was bound to make the enemies hesitate if they planned to attack that again… Still, for that to be possible, he had to work throughout the night to summon as many skeletons as possible. They were useful, but the fact that the bodies had to explode for them to become like that sure was gruesome.
"This battlefield isn't good for my mental health… I will scorch this whole area to free it from the flesh and blood," Aion thought. "I guess you guys can return home with me and then help protect mom."
After working on the skeletons, Aion made them burn the entire area while he improved the walls of the port. When morning came, Aion returned home to check things again. All that moving around and not stopping to rest was starting to take a toll on Aion's mind and facial expression.
"You are overworking yourself, Aion…" Artemisia said.
"Never mind that," Aion said. "The guy north of here didn't come to help, what do you think, mother?"
"I take it that you want to have some sort of revenge, but that might raise some bad rumors," Artemisia said. "Still, how did you manage to defend the port and still decide to bring the scarlet tigers?"
"I can leave with that and we managed by using some magic tricks on the enemies," Aion said. "I combined my magic with theirs."
"Melded magic, huh… it has been a while since I heard of that," Artemisia said. "I will ask the details later, and I will think about what we can do to get back at that man… for now, you should rest a bit, even if close to the dungeon."
"Yes, ma'am," Aion said.
Aion decided to do that since he really wanted to take a nap, and he did that at the entrance of the dungeon. The guards and adventurers knew that Aion needed a break, but they didn't expect that he would sleep at the entrance of the dungeon. He either had absolutely no trust in them, or perhaps he wasn't cruel enough to tell them to protect the dungeon with their lives. Maybe both options were correct…
In the end, Aion woke up at noon after sleeping for three hours, but there was no sign of the enemy's movements. When Aion checked the other camp, he confirmed that they were moving away… it was hard to imagine them giving up on the port that easily, but they lost sixty percent of their forces, after all. In any case, it has been a few hours since the fight and after being surrounded by skeletons for so many hours, Aion imagined that the prisoners would have loosened their mouths.
"Who wants to suffer the least?" Aion asked. "I want to know why you guys decided to attack now and who is commanding the whole thing."
The prisoners looked away from Aion. Truth to be told, he didn't want to rely on torture. That and fighting were different things. Still, he couldn't waste time dealing with them. Aion created a fireball above the group and made the temperature above them increase. It didn't take long for their bodies to begin to emit some steam… but they refused to give up.
"I guess I will show you how skeletons are made," Aion said.
