Chapter 140 Planning Ahead Again
Chapter 140 Planning Ahead Again
In the end, Aion and his mother arrived in the capital one day before the rewarding ceremony. People will probably wonder how they arrived since they didn't cross the gates… it was already late in the evening, so Aion made the carriage fly. The guards panicked when something showed up in the middle of the garden, but then Aion revealed himself. They knew that he was resourceful, but not that much... they also didn't expect that his magic was already at that level...
"I thought you had decided to skip the ceremony without warning me," Lexus suddenly appeared and said. "I had assumed that your ego had grown so much that you didn't have to tell your father about this kind of decision anymore."
"It seems you have a really bad image of me…" Aion said. "The recent news made us decided not to arrive too soon before the ceremony. Anyway, this seems like the type of thing nobles would enjoy in order to boost their egos, but I hope that I can make gain more money here than in a week of work in that territory."
"You are a noble too… even though you never made much use of that status," Lexus said. "Regardless, we had dinner a while ago, but I will ask the servants to prepare something."
"I am sorry for arriving so late, but we already had dinner," Artemisia said when she left the carriage. "We won't have to trouble anyone."
"Is that so?" Lexus said. "Well, you must be tired, so I won't take much of your time. Your bedroom is already. Also, I congratulate you for defending the territory successfully and for going to help your sisters. They seemed a bit angry for being underestimated but happy as well… it is hard to describe."
"It is hard to understand teenagers," Aion shrugged.
From his father's perspective, Aion was the only teenager in the family… Regardless, he stayed quiet about that and let them go to their room. They didn't have many things to unpack, but Aion wondered if his brothers had come as well. Aion read that in such ceremonies, only the commanders and the soldiers that did some amazing feats were rewarded, and unfortunately, Lexus didn't mention anything of them in that regard.
It was Aion's routine to get up alongside the sun and then do some training for a couple of hours. After three years of living in the other mansion, Aion couldn't help but feel that the first house he lived in that world felt strange now. Moreover, things were way too quiet when he reached the garden. If his brothers were around, they would be training in the garden. Still, Lexus showed up a little later.
"Let's spar a little while we talk," Lexus said.
"That will make one of us bite our tongue while talking," Aion said while frowning.
"Indeed… I wonder who it will be," Lexus said.
Aion never carried weapons with him, and since his father probably heard about the magic weapon, he decided not to hide it. Still, when he summoned the weapon, he couldn't help but stare at it for a while.
"I don't know where you got that, but you shouldn't show so often, even more so against opponents stronger than you," Lexus said and then assumed a fighting stance with his sword pointing to his left side. "Weapons that can be summoned are rare and usually much stronger than the ordinary ones. Many people who seek nothing for power have looked for that kind of weapon during their whole lives."
That wasn't a problem for Aion, probably. He could make his weapons disappear, even when he wasn't touching them. He just had to change his class. Still, everything has a weakness; one just has to look for it.
"Henri is managing his land, and he is busy, and your brothers are on the border with their squads to keep an eye on those guys," Lexus said when they began to trade blows. "They won't be around for the ceremony. Your sisters are also busy in the borders trying to help on the fortifications of those areas. We lost a lot of soldiers in the last war, after all."
"That is a pity, but other opportunities will come," Aion said.
"Speaking of opportunities, the king might offer you something unusual," Lexus said. "No one can deny your strength and resourcefulness now, and since many people think that you might turn against us someday, it is natural that many will try to win you over."
"I am not really feeling like working for the man who ordered the extermination of all the relatives of my mother," Aion said. "No matter the reason. Mom doesn't want revenge, so I won't trouble her by following that oath. Besides, I don't have any reason to avenge the people that I never knew. The only thing I can try revenge is the sadness that she felt, but since she never complained, I don't have the right to do anything."
"If that is your feelings, then I will pass the message to him to avoid that offer and not trouble both sides," Lexus said.
"I am thankful," Aion said.
"Still, this might be your last chance to win the trust of the people of this kingdom," Lexus said. "His majesty decided that, but many told him of that possibility. If he doesn't say anything, then a lot of people will know your answer."
"That is fine by me, I don't need everyone's approval or feeling of acceptance," Aion said.
"That is probably for the best," Lexus said. "Changing the subject, Philip, Maisie, and Darina are going to marry soon. It seems that they want a huge party and holds the ceremonies together since their partners are all friends as well. You should prepare your work to have free time in six months. Speaking of marriage, if you are interested in someone, I can give you a hand."
"What an abrupt change of conversation topic…" Aion said and then sighed.
