The Tale Of Kitsuna

Chapter 91

Chapter 91

Chapter 91:

‘In the end, she won.’ I thought while walking down the road towards the next town south with Kayda lying on my back. Luckily, I used half my true size so she could easily stay on my back without any of us worrying if she will fall off.

“Hey, Nova, why did you stop running?” Kayda asked, turning around on my back looking to the front.

“That’s because we are close to the next town. I don’t want to run through the place. This is a sightseeing and self-reflection trip for me.” I said, walking on the side of the road.

“Yeah, but it is the first day we cannot stop already,” Kayda complained from my back.

“We aren’t going to stay the night or anything. We are just going to walk through the place before leaving again.”

“Oh, then do you want to change back to your human form?” Kayda asked, moving up to my head looking down at my eyes.

“Nah, I will stay like this,” I said with a small chuckle seeing Kayda on top of my head.

“Okay, but don’t talk then. It’s rare for a contract beast to talk.” Kayda explains, getting down from my head.

.....

“Well, I am rare, so why not,” I said with a cheeky tone.

“Because we are trying to hide our identities. We don’t want the nobles to find out about you being an intelligent beast making them want you and making problems for us. so no, thank you.” Kayda said, making sure I understood she didn’t want problems.

“Oh, okay, but you do know even if I try, trouble will find us, right,” I said, deflated.

“That’s true, but we can take some precautions to minimize the risk,” Kayda said, tapping my head that I oddly found enjoyable.

“Don’t tap my head like that,” I said, faking my annoyance.

“Yeah yeah, anyway, shut up, we are close,” Kayda said, making me look into the distance to only see a small town coming in view.

“So, this is the town called Mari,” I said, looking at the medieval-style town. It wasn’t as large as I thought it would be thinking about the size of the capital, but it also wasn’t small. It was about the size of a medium city in Japan. The most noticeable thing was that there was one road going from one end to the other through the town. Now that sounds like a city, and it should be, but this world standard really isn’t normal for earthlings.

Because of my fox form being half of my true size, I could still easily see over it if I was next to it.

It would have been a comical experience to look over the wall at the locals. Just thinking about how many people will pee their pants almost made me laugh, but memories about the smell I once experience made me stop that thought process.

“Even though the capital is so advance. Why is this town so behind? Even though it is close.” I whispered to Kayda. Referring to the wooden houses and the unpaved main road.

“Do you really think the world can change in only 8 or so years?” Kayda said, like I said something stupid.

“That’s true, isn’t it,” I said, a bit embarrassed.

“Now shut it. They will hear you.” Kayda said, pulling one of my ears.

“Tch, get off then. I am way too big to fit into the main gate,” I whispered at Kayda.

“Oh, did you just call yourself fat?” Kayda said with a joking tone.

Without a word, I suddenly shrunk to the size of a big dog and jumped to the side, dodging the falling Kayda.

“Ouch, Nova, a word of warning would have MMMMP,” Kayda said before getting a tail pushed into her face.

‘That’s what you get, damn dragon.’ I thought while walking away from Kayda with a proud step.

“Oi, get back here!” Kayda shouted from behind, making me start to run towards the gate.

(10 minutes later)

‘Fucken dragon, let me go!’ I shouted in my mind trying to struggle out of Kaydas’ arms. Sadly, I couldn’t run away from the dragon and was now in a teddy bear hold.

“Uhm ma’am, is that your contract beast?” One of the guards asked hesitantly, looking at me.

“Yes, this little fox is my contract beast. like you can see with the collar on her neck.” Kayda said, not even being fazed with me struggling in her arms.

“Ah, I see, well welcome to the town of Mari. The entry fee will be 5 copper per person and 3 for the beast.” The guards said awkwardly.

“Grrrrr,” Hearing what the guard called me, I growled at him while glaring as well.

“Stop it, or else I won’t allow you to eat any bones for the next month,” Kayda said, tightening her grip on me while giving me a death glare.

“Ah!” Feeling surprised at Kaydas words, my mouth dropped open, releasing a weird whining sound while I turned my head at her trying to confirm if she was actually serious.

“Yeah, you think I won’t. Try me, fox.” Kayda said with a serious tone making me drop my head down, looking down deflated.

“Hahaha, she loves her food, it seems.” The guards laughed, making me annoyed at them again.

“She does, thank you,” Kayda commented while giving the money to the guard.

“Enjoy your stay.” The guards said, making way for us to enter.

‘This was a bad idea. Now I can’t do anything but watch. I should have changed to my human form before we got in.’ I thought, dropping my head down again.

“Why are you so depressed all of a sudden?” Kayda said, looking down at me, waiting for an answer.

Feeling a tick mark appear on my head, I turned my head towards her, glaring at her before looking back to the ground.

“Oh, you want me to let go, don’t you?” Kayda said, releasing her arms around me making me fall to the ground.

Nodding happily, feeling the ground, I looked around at the main street.

“Don’t walk on your own,” Kayda whispered just when I was about to walk towards the weapon store that piqued my interest.

‘Why not.’ I thought, looking at her again.

“Remember what I told you,” Kayda said with a cheeky smile.

‘Tch, I should have changed to my human form.’ I thought, following Kayda down the road towards the exit of the town.

“Ha-ha, next time you know what to do,” Kayda said, rubbing my head with her hand that I tried to freeze but failed miserably.

‘I will get my revenge, damn dragon.’ I thought, pulling away from her hand. I sighed and followed her obediently while making some plans to get back at her.

While I was in my thoughts, I never notice the number of eyes Kayda and I received while walking down the street. Some were looking at us with interest, jealousy, and so on, but most of them looked at us with fear.

And who can blame them who would look at a Dragonoid walking with a red furry beast with anything but fear?

Dragonoids were always a problem for the civilians, and they thought Kayda would be the same. Luckily, they quickly notice that we were not interested in them in the least.

“Aah, it seems they aren’t stupid after all,” Kayda mumbled, bringing me out of my thoughts.

‘What is she on about?’ I thought, looking at her weirdly.

(1 hour later)

“Thank you for visiting the town of Mari.” The guard said, seeing us leaving.

“Now, let’s get a move on,” Kayda said, coming to a stop about 100 meters out of town before looking at me.

“What do you want?” I whispered, looking back at her.

“Come on, you know what I mean,” Kayda whined.

“Tch.” Clicking my tongue, I changed back to my half-size and waited for Kayda to jump on.

“Awesome, now to the City of Armillian!” Kayda said, jumping on my back.

“Yeah yeah, now sit on your ass and let me get us there,” I said in annoyance.

“Fine,” Kayda said, lying down on my back while burying?herself a bit in my fur.

Feeling that she was secured on my back, and started to channel mana into me. I started running with Flash step, following the road towards the next city.

‘Kayda did mention how long it will take me to get to each city or town, and I think it will take me about 5 hours to get there. 5 hours of thinking, here I come.’ I thought, getting to my top speed while using Flash step.
