Chapter 155 (Tell Zhang Dong) Mo Qian Got Wenxi Drunk This Night

“The brilliant opinions of Yun Che and Zi Ping, helped me to resolve my doubts! Excuse me, I could not help overhearing what you said, as I was just next door. Hearing such a touching tale, I could not bear to disturb you.” Mo Qian said, with a laugh.

“Uncle Mo, why are you are here?” Lin Wenxi asked.

“Well, I am a frequent visitor here. But I have never seen my little friend Wenxi, here before! Fate! It must be fate!” Mo Qian said with a smile.

“Do you know each other?” Zhu Ziping asked happily. “Uncle Qian often comes here during the day, while Wenxi likes to come at night. So you two must have missed each other many times!”

“We met because of a lucky coincidence. We became friends, by accident. Our fate can live up to the meaningful words you two said just now!” Mo Qian seemed to be extremely happy.

“Uncle Qian usually helps to run the business at our store, which is very considerate of him. But we are unable to repay your kindness.” Yun Che said, respectfully.

“Boss Yun, you have magical hands. You gave my piano a good tuning. Also, you repaired and maintained it, which is wonderful!” Mo Qian waved his hand.

“I think they are going to close the store for the night. Since we have been brought together by fate, let’s go somewhere to sit and chat.” Mo Qian smiled, and reached out to Lin Wenxi.

Lin Wenxi nodded silently.

In the early summer of May, the vitality of the city had completely recovered.

They could see the whole bustling street. Mo Qian and Lin Wenxi turned left at the intersection of Pinghe Avenue and Binjiang Road. After walking for three minutes, they arrived at the place, where they had their singing session, the last time.

The hall was crowded with a lot of men and women, who were waiting in line. They were eager to spend their unused energy tonight. Some people were smartly dressed in suits, and some wore blue or green plaid T-shirts. There were women in skirts and black silk stockings. Some women were in high heel platform shoes, while some were in glittery evening dresses. After passing by them, Lin Wenxi saw many large billboards, advertising new commercial buildings, hoping to attract potential investors. Behind those billboards were rows of grand-scale modern buildings, which had been newly built, after the demolition of the old ones. The buildings were arranged in neat order, like the teeth of a comb. They nearly reached to the sky. Cars came and left in an endless stream, at the underground parking lot, next to the buildings. Indeed, it was easy to buy a car, but it was difficult to find a parking space. The parking lots at this place were very popular, because supermarkets and many public facilities were situated around the area. In addition to that, there was a distinctive, local hotel, located at the side. The hotel was of a considerable size, and offered both accommodation and catering services, as part of its attraction. It was over forty storeys high. Its windows with alloy aluminum edges, were neat and uniform, and those light cobalt blue windows reflected the clouds in the sky. Each day, they witnessed the sunrise and sunset, as well as the movement of the clouds. The hotel had a huge signboard, with colorful neon lights that flashed continuously, 24 hours a day. Thus, the pedestrians far and near, could clearly see the signboard, which made this building a well known landmark, in the nearby business area.

The place Mo Qian mentioned, was situated at this landmark.

The evening breeze made people feel heady and warm, as if they were not on the earth. The red wine in the goblet looked like blood. After drinking it, Lin Wenxi felt his heart racing, all of a sudden. Lin Wenxi held the goblet in his hand, and turned his face to the breeze. Seeing all the luxuries of the city and the bright lights, he suddenly asked Mo Qian, “How do you feel about your marriage?”

“Me? I got divorced.” Mo Qian said.

“Why?” Lin Wenxi asked.

“I guess you must have read Qian Zhongshu’s ‘Fortress Besieged.’ All I want to say, is in that book.” Mo Qian smiled and asked, “So what about you?”

Mo Qian lit a Cuban cigar. The smoke of the cigar drifted in the wind, and the aroma floated to the tip of Lin Wenxi’s nose. He thought it smelt very nice. Somehow, he felt that Mo Qian looked very elegant, smoking the cigar.

“From time to time, my family often mention my childhood friend to me. She is a little sister, who lives next door, and has just entered the university. But I have not taken the initiative to contact her.”

“Well, that’s your fault. You can try to get along with her. If she thinks that you two are not suitable for each other, then your parents will have no reason to force you. After all, forced love does not last.”

“You’re right. Don’t you have any other person that you like?”

“No.”

“Oh? What kind of person will that be?” Lin Wenxi was very curious. He wondered what kind of girl would be able to win the heart of such a man.

“You.” Mo Qian slowly blew a ring of smoke, and said this very seriously.

Lin Wenxi smiled and said, “You can tell a joke, as if you mean it. People in your workplace are truly frightening.”

“Do you want to hear the reason?”

Lin Wenxi shook his head.

Suddenly, Mo Qian flipped his left hand. In a blink of an eye, a rose appeared in his palm. He handed it to Lin Wenxi.

Lin Wenxi did not take it. His eyes widened in disbelief. Whenever he watched any magic shows on TV, Lin Wenxi always thought that he would be alert enough to see through the magician’s tricks, if it was done right in front of him. But he did not expect that Mo Qian could perform the trick, in such a flawless way.

“If you do it again, I will take the rose.”

Lin Wenxi kept his eyes wide open and waited for Mo Qian to do it again. He was trying to expose Mo Qian’s trick. Mo Qian reached out to press against Lin Wenxi’s back and moved toward his neck. Feeling an itch in his neck, Lin Wenxi looked down. It seemed that a brilliant red rose was about to blossom before his eyes. Lin Wenxi took it joyfully, grinning from ear to ear. He would force Mo Qian to teach him the trick.

“Do you want to hear the reason?” Mo Qian asked again, with a mischievous expression and gave Lin Wenxi a challenging look.

Lin Wenxi nodded.

“To save a little statue, you were foolish enough to jump into the water, even though you know you can’t swim. It shows that you value feelings. You are knowledgeable, but you never show off your talents. It indicates that you are a reserved and civilized person. When someone hands you a leaflet, you will not refuse him, and will take it. You won’t throw it away in front of him, even if you are not interested. It shows that you judge others, as you would like to be judged by them. You always know what is appropriate and can behave properly on any occasions. Also, you can control the scene, on those occasions. All these suggests that you have an aura of power. Finally, you associate with people like me, which shows you have good taste.” Mo Qian said all these, in one go. Lin Wenxi couldn’t believe that the perfect person Mo Qian was raving about just now, was him.

“Do you want to know the reason why I don’t like you?” Lin Wenxi smiled sweetly, with his head tilted.

“Say it.” Mo Qian was a little surprised.

“You have a glib tongue, which doesn’t live up to the honest and elegant image, I have of you, in my mind. It suggests that you are a person who has two faces. Well, I fear this kind of person most.” Lin Wenxi was still smiling.

“Some people always like to treat the truth as a lie, just like there will always be someone, who will regard the truest confession, as a joke on All Fools’ Day.” Mo Qian said.

Lin Wenxi remembered he received a note from Shu Xiaoman, which said that she liked him, on April Fool’s Day, last year. He took it as a joke. He also recalled that Shu Xiaoman begged him to be her boyfriend for just one minute, at the anniversary celebration, not too long ago. Lin Wenxi heaved a sigh.

“It seems that you remembered something that proved what I said, right?”

“No.” Lin Wenxi stubbornly denied this.

“Oh. Then, I will add one last reason. I also like your stubbornness.” Mo Qian smiled and handed the red wine to Lin Wenxi.

Lin Wenxi drained the cup with one gulp. He began to cough violently.

“I have not formally confessed to Zhao Yuan. I, indeed have confessed in private, and Zhao Yuan would probably say, “Then clean up yourself and wait for me.” After that, Lin Wenxi would take a shower. But he never got a chance to sleep with Zhao Yuan again. “What if I confess to Zhao Yuan in public? Will that person say what Zheng Kai has asked: are we performing a campus comedy?”

“Well, well. Forget it. Why would I think of this?”

“Friendship is like a person having two hearts. While love is that of two persons sharing one heart. If a couple are not of one heart, how can they say that they are in love with each other? At most, it is a kind of friendship, whereby people will greet each other sometimes, just like us.” Again, Mo Qian handed Lin Wenxi a glass of wine.

After hearing Mo Qian’s words, Lin Wenxi was stunned.

That night Lin Wenxi was very drunk, and he was somewhat muddleheaded. He only remembered that Mo Qian helped him get into the car.

Mo Qian looked at Lin Wenxi who had fallen asleep in the car, and picked up the phone. “Tell Zhang Dong that someone has hijacked Lin Wenxi.”
