Chapter 196: 196:Gaming Company

As Daniel stepped into the grand entrance, he was immediately struck by the seamless automation surrounding the place.

Doors and windows opened smoothly and silently as he approached, controlled by an invisible central system that seemed to orchestrate the environment with perfect precision. The temperature was subtly adjusted to maintain an ideal climate, and outside, Daniel caught sight of a variety of people moving in what appeared to be a well-coordinated drill.

Evan, seemingly unfazed by Daniel's awestruck reaction, led him through the expansive hallways, his voice carrying a casual tone as he spoke. "It's impressive, isn't it? We've invested heavily in automation to make sure that everything runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible."

Still grappling with the high-tech environment, Daniel managed a nod. "It's incredible. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before."

As they walked, Evan continued to chat pleasantly, guiding Daniel through various rooms and showcasing the facility's impressive features. When they finally settled into a comfortable sitting area, Daniel took a deep breath and finally began addressing the question that had been on his mind since his arrival.

"Evan, I really appreciate the tour and the warm welcome, but I need to know—why did you call me here?" Daniel's tone was direct, yet curious.

"Given the scale of operations you're running here, I would assume you have everything under control. I'm sure it can't be something small."

Evan paused, a thoughtful look crossing his face. He was momentarily lost in reflection as memories of past events and people flashed through his mind. Throughout his life, he had encountered both challenges and support from many, but he had rarely found someone of his own age with whom he could have genuine, friendly conversations and relax.

Sam and Ryan, who had been part of his journey, always maintained a level of formality and restraint due to their professional roles.

Maria and Suri, though notable, the former's grumbling nature and the latter's more recent inclusion didn't quite fit the companionship he sought. The only entity with whom he could converse freely and even receive blunt feedback was the system itself.

Daniel's presence, however, offered a rare sense of ease and familiarity that Evan hadn't often experienced. After a moment of introspection, Evan realized that Daniel's straightforward nature and relaxed demeanor might be just what was needed for the task at hand.

Evan leaned forward, his expression becoming more serious yet still approachable. "You're right, Daniel. We do have many resources, but this project is different. It requires someone with a unique perspective and skill set. I believe you could be that person. Your ability to handle complex situations and your experience might come in handy in this."

Intrigued by Evan's response, Daniel leaned back in his chair, considering the implications. "Alright, Evan. You've piqued my curiosity. What's the task?"

Evan's eyes gleamed with a mix of anticipation and resolve. "I'll explain everything shortly. But first, let's enjoy some refreshments. It's going to be a long discussion, and I want you to be as comfortable as possible."

As they waited for the refreshments, the atmosphere between them shifted, growing from initial formality to one of genuine interest and camaraderie.

The task ahead was significant, and both men were prepared to delve into it, each carrying a sense of purpose and mutual respect.

Evan and Daniel settled into a comfortable lounge, where a tray of refreshments was placed before them. As Daniel sipped his coffee, Evan leaned back, his gaze a mix of anticipation and seriousness.

"Daniel," Evan began, his tone measured but direct, "I want to discuss a new venture. I'm proposing a joint company, and I want you to head it."

Daniel frowned, his curiosity piqued. "A joint company? What's the idea about?"

Evan's eyes sparkled with excitement. "It's a VR gaming company. Specifically, we're aiming to create a real-world RPG VR game."

Daniel's hands trembled slightly as he held his cup of coffee, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Did you mean those… immersive VR experiences that blur the line between reality and the virtual world?"

"Yes, exactly," Evan affirmed, his tone steady. "Everything you've heard about those groundbreaking experiences—that's what we're aiming to develop."

Daniel set the cup in his hand down carefully, his mind racing. "Why are you asking me to do this? Don't you already have companies under your wing?"

Instead of answering right away, Evan reached into a drawer and handed Daniel a sleek VR headset. "It's VR. Wear this. The AI..."

Daniel's heart skipped a beat as he looked at Evan with a mix of confusion and concern. "What AI?"

Evan shook his head. "Actually, the reason I'm asking you is because Next Gen Innovations is running at full capacity. Aria mentioned that while AI can handle a lot of tasks, it's not great at face-to-face interactions or high-level meetings. We need someone who can represent us, forge connections, and handle sensitive negotiations."

Daniel's expression softened slightly as he considered this. "And what about the robots?"

Evan's gaze grew thoughtful. "I have the resources to develop them, but for now, I would prefer not to. Public knowledge of our robot's capabilities could stir up controversy. Until we develop realistic artificial skins that make robots look like humans, I want to keep them under wraps."

Daniel nodded, understanding the strategic implications. "And the company on paper?"

Evan's smile widened. "It will appear as an independent entity, but everything will be controlled from behind the scenes. It's a way to operate discreetly while maintaining a front that's separate from our core businesses."

"See the fact is, every time I release something, those people start getting uneasy," Evan continued. "Releasing a fully immersive VR world might blow their minds, so I want this thing to not get traced back to me, for now."

Aurora, who had been present during the discussion and had been observing all, briefed Daniel on the specifics through VR wear.

Daniel stared at Evan, processing the weight of what had been laid out before him. "And what if I refuse?"

Evan's lips curled into a cruel smile.

"Nothing much… I will just erase everything from your mind."
