Chapter 20 - D-day
Chapter 20 - D-day
Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.
- Confucius
It was the D-day for Long Jie , he was ready to meet Xins or one could say he was more than ready to meet Xin zhenyi, his soon-to-be wife. Stepping out of the room, he saw his father waiting-correction counting seconds. He could see the twinkles of happiness in the eyes of his otherwise neutral and expressionless father. He looked him up and down before nodding in approval.
'What was he a kid?'Long said to himself.
"Don't mess it up son" Long Shaoming said before handing his son a folder of documents which he presumed was the marriage agreement.
Damm him and his agreement!
"Alright," he said once they reached the awaiting cars.
His mother openly denied accompanying them to Xin Mansion. She was crestfallen that she didn't get to select another daughter-in-law. His grandfather had decided to join his old friends that were more crucial than his grandson's marital alliance.
Long Wei's wife smiled and wished him Goodluck. Not that he needed it but anyway, he replied her with a small smile.
"Let me know when you've met her," she said once Long Shaoming entered his own car.
Long Jie's father and Wei rode separately while Yuan joined him. He returned from the mission Long Jie assigned him two days ago.
" First brother, you are really doing this?" Yuan asked seriously.
Long Jie gave him a questioning look.
"First brother, what if she is not up to your mighty standards?" Yuan's tone was serious again, and Long Jie wanted to seal his mouth. The man talked too much.
"Shut up." He wasn't going to mess this up. They should know this by now. Xin Zhenyi was the key to every door.
"If she isn't up to par, I did have to see her every day. Or until I can persuade her to see Liu Shishi's plastic surgeon." He was only half-joking. Ugly people didn't have to stay ugly always.
Long Yuan pressed his lips together and refrained from speaking further.
Thankfully, he didn't speak for the rest of the ride.
Long Jie needed a moment, but all he could think about was, Xin Zhenyi that was about to be part of his life. Taking the ring out of my coat pocket, he stared at the huge diamond that would seal their destinies. She was a Xin and he was a long which meant no bloody divorce.
"Let the games begin," he murmured to himself. He was going to make this work or die trying. But, if she was anything like the females he had encountered in the past, she would be dancing in the palm of his hand, and he couldn't wait.
He closed his eyes and saw a face that he desperately wanted to forget. The woman he just saw once was etched in his mind. He could not get her out of my mind and it was annoying him further.
The car pulled up in front of a ginormous Mansion, he saw several men standing to welcome them. Just looking at the size of the mansion and the number of men standing, one could imagine the wealth of Xins.
" She is loaded brother," Wei said out of nowhere.
"She is just like the rest of them." Long Jie smirked. Just like his mother.
"Son," His father said, stepping in line beside him . "You take the lead on this. I'll not intervene with whatever transpires from this moment on. If you do this, I will allow you to take my place as the head of the Long family. Don't mess it up Jie."
His father knew why he was doing it. He had an inkling how badly, he wanted his place and he had really earned it.
" You were born to lead the family, Jie" Long Shaoming added.
" It was never about their family's influence father. Isn't it?" Long Jie asked him and he knew what he meant.
He smiled and patted his son's back. " That's why you will be the perfect head of the family, Son," he said and stepped forward leaving his son with thousands of thoughts running in his mind.
