Dardanian was soon standing in front of Sheyan. His hair was still wet, his body was emitting the unpleasant smell of amniotic fluid, and he looked very tired.
He had obviously just climbed out of that huge seed. To dispose of their former companions’ corpses quietly was a time-consuming task, especially now that Pokan’s abilities had been boosted dramatically. Dardanian’s deed may be discovered if he was just a bit careless.
Sheyan pointed at the two rescued humans and asked in a low voice, “Is there anything you can do to help?”
Dardanian already had a general idea of what was happening. He was a little intimidated by Sheyan, so he obediently went over to have a look.
“It’s hard. If we’re to operate on them, we must administer a strong anesthetic to prevent the Chestbursters from struggling. But both of them are extremely weak right now. Anesthetics that are strong enough to be effective on the Chestbursters will likely kill them,” Dardanian told Sheyan after a while.
“In that case, is there a way to take the Chestbursters out alive, then make sure the two humans live for two or three more days?” asked Sheyan as his eyes flashed with ruthlessness.
After a short moment of hesitation, Dardanian answered, “It’s doable. I can plant some Dendrobium Vulgaris inside their chests. A mutated version of this plant can temporarily take the place of damaged organs in the body, but it’ll also absorb the life force of its host. The host can last for three to four days.”
Sheyan nodded. “If you’re confident, then go and help them. These people are still very useful to us at the moment, so remember to be polite to them.”
Dardanian nodded with a bitter smile. “It’ll take the Chestbursters at least two more hours to hatch. I’ll have to restore some MP first.”
Pokan and Paul came over while laughing and talking merrily. They were obviously in a good mood. Maybe because of the noise here, the others contestants came over one after another to take a look. They were very glad to see Dardanian, and when they looked at Sheyan, there was a little more respect in their eyes.
Humans are practical creatures. When Hedi Curry and Azsa were leading the team, they were defeated repeatedly, and were always beaten very badly. However, after Sheyan took over, everything went smoothly. Everyone had reaped quite a bit of profit.
Sheyan was only utilising his status as an MT to command the team previously, but he was now truly recognised by everyone as the leader of this team!
Only a leader who can bring benefits to a team will win the support of the team members.
With Dardanian’s help, the biggest problem troubling the native humans was instantly solved. The two Chestbursters naturally ended up in the team luggage. The native humans were extremely grateful.
Dardanian vaguely explained that the patients may face complications for a period of time, but they would be all right if they could last through the next three or four days. Sheyan told the native humans that it was time for them to leave for further exploration, so naturally, Hadrick offered an invitation to visit their main camp for a while.
Sheyan unhesitantly accepted the invitation, because he knew that every second was precious.
The group of humans traveled down the river again. Pokan’s strength had increased significantly, and that spelled disaster for the aquatic creatures that had malicious intent towards them along the way. Those creatures would suddenly find themselves “stranded” in the middle of the river.
A powerful legendary elemental creature like Stone Blader Raijo was of course not something that an ordinary Rock Elemental could compare to. After all, he had his own wisdom and will. With Raijo’s help, Pokan could lift more than 100 square meters of the riverbed to a height of 5-6 meters in a very short period of time, and could even lock the enemy up for a few seconds with the ‘Earth Imprisonment’ spell!
So although Hadrick and the native humans had traveled for three days when they went to their companions’ rescue, they managed to return in less than twelve hours. By now, the scenery around the group had changed from the previous endless swamp to a relatively dense forest. A brownish-red mountain could be vaguely seen in the distance, hidden by the forest. The temperature had dropped sharply, so much so that the breaths they heaved turned white.
Hadrick said that because the mountain was brownish-red in colour, they called it the Inferno Mountain. It had advantageous terrains, and did not contain many ferocious wild animals. There was also a beautiful lake on the mountain called Lake Ontario.
According to the analysis of a certain spaceship before its energy depleted, Lake Ontario was the biggest reason for the cold climate in this area, because the depth of the lake reached an astonishing three kilometers, and at the bottom of the lake was actually a thick layer of ice! The ice spanned across hundreds of kilometers below the ground!
As far as normal geology was concerned, it was difficult to explain the forming of this geographical phenomenon. It may be the characteristics of some rare mineral veins. This whole area felt like it was encased in a refrigerator. The vegetation and ecology of the area were close to those in high latitude places on Old Earth.
Hadrick realised that Sheyan was very interested in Lake Ontario, or to be precise, the mineral veins below Lake Ontario which caused ice to spread for hundreds of kilometres underground. He warned Sheyan not to go near the lake because there had been several cases of people mysteriously disappearing at the lake without any signs of fighting or bloodstain, as if they had just evaporated.
Sheyan and the group soon arrived at the gathering spot of the humans – a semi-dead spaceship.
In terms of size, the spaceship could only be considered a small to medium-sized spaceship in the Empire, but even so, it was an excellent sanctuary for the humans. Although it had crashed deep into the mountain when it made an emergency landing, most of it body had remained intact.
The reason it was a semi-dead spaceship was because its main optical computers, among others, had broken down. Fortunately, the energy system of the ship had not suffered much damage. So long as there was light, the energy supply system and the stealth system could continue their operation.
That was why the ship had not been targeted by the powerful creatures on this planet, because there was enough energy to activate the stealth system. These human captives of the Predators could also find shelter in the spaceship – there was ample heat and oxygen supply, clean rooms, and a safe sleeping environment.
The last point was especially important. Not only were there many blood-sucking insects and carnivorous insects on Uplos, they also carried horrible infectious diseases. In some ways, they were actually more terrible than the giant beasts that could eat a human whole. If you were to encounter a giant beast, the worst that could happen to you was to be eaten in one gulp, but the insects would make you wail in pain for seven or eight days, and after that, you can only watch helplessly as a large number of parasites gush out of your body to devour you alive!
But the aforementioned services were all that the spaceship could provide, because its control module and main optical computers were destroyed in that tragic crash. It had been in a semi-dead state since.
Most of the residents in the camp gave the guests who came from afar a warm welcome – not because they were hospitable, but because the guests had brought meat and alcohol with them. This was not just food, but also a taste of home. Many of the people there ate with tears on their faces.
A majority of the humans’ diet consisted of mushrooms and grilled meat, but Sheyan and the contestants also managed to taste some unique food, the most delicious of which was a kind of moss called “ground patterns”. After being washed and processed with sand, it could be eaten as a kind of salad, bringing a unique sensation to one’s taste buds. It could also be brewed together with honey and bones into a delicious broth which could relieve fatigue.
After the meal, the contestants entered the interior of the spaceship. The light in the interior had a tint of blue, giving off a sense of peace and tranquility. There were also potted plants inside. The closing of the door instantly isolated this small, civilised world from the primitive world outside. It was a bizarre feeling.
Sheyan did not retreat to the room he was assigned to rest like the others, but went to find Hadrick instead. There were five or six people in Hadrick’s room at the moment. These people should be the leaders of this camp.
Sheyan went straight to the point.
“I’ve fulfilled my promise; your companions have been rescued alive from the Xenomorphs. It’s only fair that I ask you to fulfil your promise now.”
“Of course. What do you need?” asked Hadrick earnestly.
Sheyan closed his eyes and muttered, “We came to this godforsaken planet to investigate whether there really is an astonishing amount of Pi element deposits here, but our harvest has not been satisfactory so far. We only realised something after facing the Violent Beasts – we might have done this the wrong way from the very beginning! The creatures here are highly intelligent, so we should be able to communicate with them!”
“Professional matters should be left to the professionals!” said Sheyan firmly.
“It was foolish of us to search blindly like we did before. If there are creatures like the Dwarves on this planet, our problem will easily be solved if we establish friendship with them!”
