Chapter 1120: The Reward for Stubborness

This move appeared rigid and simple, but in Sheyan’s eyes, it could only be described with two words – unexpected and fast!

Shockingly fast!

The dagger left a dazzling line in the air as it cut through the enemy’s throat, but the enemy inexplicably remained unharmed!

Sheyan was currently sitting on a stone at the side. Cyborg No. 1 patiently cut away the rotten flesh from his wounds, then applied medicine and bandages to them, while telling Sheyan in a husky and murky voice, “According to my offline database, these people are probably the defective products of the Ten Strongest Project. They’re more fortunate than the other test subjects in that their cells were able to slightly adapt to the enormous powers of the Ten Strongest, so they were able to survive instead of bursting like balloons.”

“Unfortunately, these people are not up to the standards of the Ten Strongest and thus lost their value as research subjects, but they’re also destined to lose their freedom forever because they possess power beyond ordinary people and can no longer live together with normal humans. These people have probably managed to run away from the research institute, but unfortunately ended up being targeted by the Predators.”

“So they’re not the Ten Strongest,” said Sheyan calmly.

“Far from it,” replied Cyborg No. 1 in that hoarse voice of his. “They can only be regarded as semi-completed products at most. It’s more appropriate to call them test subjects. However, these particular test subjects can actually use dimensional power to protect themselves during their transformation, so that the transformation process wouldn’t be interrupted. This shows that their abilities must be quite high even among the surviving test subjects – which was probably why they could escape from the research institute in the first place.”

“Hadrick knows about our roles – The Fool from before is obviously a nemesis to my high Defence, and this Madman, we can tell from his name that he’s probably a berserker-type or something similar, which is a rather bad matchup for an assassin-type like Ronnie. So what kind of power does the woman have?”

“If my guess is right, she should be a bad matchup for mage-types – that’s why they’re so confident that they can defeat us. It seems that our understanding of the mystery of the Realms is really just a drop in the ocean!”

“AHAHAHAHAHA!” It was hard to imagine that Mungo could laugh in such an ecstatic and unreserved manner, but that was what was happening at this moment. The bald man was on the verge of having a nervous breakdown for days now. He was alone right now anyway, so it was understandable for him to throw away his mask and show his unreserved emotion.

“My life, no, my position is safe! Even if the old man forsakes me, as long as I can get on the good side of the Big Ben Research Institute, they’ll surely help me keep my position! I’ve made the right decision after all! Major General Fiji? Old man? To hell with all of them!!!”

The Empire’s Big Ben Research Institute is the highest-level scientific research institute of biological weapons in the Empire. Presently, the institute has helped prolong the life of the Emperor for seventy years! Normally, if a normal person was suffering from the rare congenital genetic disease that the Emperor was suffering from, they would have been euthanised as soon as they were diagnosed!

Not only that, the institute had also raked in a lot of achievements in the field of genetic warriors, with millions of biochemical warriors being produced by them every year. Thus, one could imagine the high status it enjoyed in the Empire.

The reason why the institute was called the Big Ben Research Institute was that the first president of the institute was originally the president of the Royal Society of London on Old Earth. Because he missed his hometown dearly, he had modeled the main building of the institute after London’s Big Ben. After a long time, the name stuck.

Major General Mungo had collected information about The Madman test subject and The Fool test subject from the cyborgs’ eyes. He had confirmed that these two men had been on the “Milky Way Wanted List” issued by the Big Ben Research Institute for five consecutive years. Big Ben Research Institute’s determination to have them dead was evident from this fact!

Mungo also knew that the Big Ben Research Institute had the power to save any Empire citizen from any kinds of trouble as long as the person was not guilty of such vicious crimes as treason. His actions of disobeying orders and breaking the law was nothing if they decided to help.

That was because no officials of the Empire would be willing to offend an institute that might save their life one day. More importantly, the head of this institute had the honour of dining with His Majesty every day. This was a privilege even the Queen and the Prince did not enjoy!

Mungo quickly copied the data transmitted over from Cyborg No. 1 and sent it to the headquarters of the Big Ben Research Institute on Planet Emperor with his dedicated line. Of course, he also left his name, address and contact information. As soon as this was done, Mungo finally relaxed and fell asleep on his seat.

He was like a gambler who had bought ten lottery tickets and successfully earned back his money after the fifth one. Now, he felt no more pressure and was only waiting to see if he would get anymore surprises.

Unlike Mungo, Ronnie was like a small tree that was withering and cowering in a violent storm at the moment!

The Madman test subject danced wildly in front of him while wielding the double bone axes. One could not see the axes clearly at all. His advance was like a gust of wind blowing through while carrying countless axes in it.

The pair of bone axes would collide from time to time, creating strong clanking noises. Every time they made the noise, the people nearby would feel like their eardrums were pierced with needles, and then chopped off!

Even when Ronnie managed to parry the axes with his dagger, he would still be wounded from the sharp wind made by the axes. The blood he spilled almost formed a mist in the air around him! The sound of his muscles and bones being severed was terrible.

The enemy just laughed and swallowed the blood which spilled onto his face. Every step he took would cause a terrifying explosion on the ground!

Ronnie definitely would not just take hits without attacking back. It could be seen that The Madman test subject was also in a terrible state.

One of his eyeballs had been gouged out. It swung on his face, connected still by several centimeters of red and white veins behind it. Several wounds had also appeared on his chest and abdomen, so terrible that even his intestines had gushed out of his body. A brown liquid was also leaking out of his stomach. However, he seemed totally unaffected, as if these wounds were inflicted on another person’s body and not his!

The dance of the two sharp axes were as furious and as fierce as ever!

Suddenly, Ronnie’s entire body flashed continuously, and in but a mere instant, created seven copies of himself! They surrounded The Madman from all sides, then hit the centre hard!

The Madman howled loudly. All seven copies vanished in an instant as a gush of blood streaked through the air. Ronnie was sent flying. If he had not blocked his waist with his dagger in time, he would have been chopped in half by the horrifying bone axe! A pool of blood immediately stained the ground after he landed. He rolled back up, gasping as a light flashed on his body, denoting the use of an honorary dosage.

Meanwhile, deep black holes had been made in the heart, throat and the remaining intact eye of The Madman!!

Blood oozed out of the fist-sized holes.

It was a horrible sight!

At this moment, when it seemed that victory had been decided, The Madman slammed both his axes down on the ground hard!

Consecutive ripples of blood auras were emitted from his body to form a semi-circular barrier around him.

Strong killing intent emanated like invisible waves from The Madman who seemed to be on the verge of dying just moments ago. Only two horrible bleeding holes were left in his eye sockets that had lost their eyeballs. He suddenly raised his head and howled. His skin started tearing apart, his wounds started to rapidly scab, and then the skin started to chap.

A new layer of bronze-coloured skin was visible within the wounds on the originally heavily-injured body. He seemed like a snake molting its skin, being born anew! All the wounds were shifted onto the shed skin! Right now, The Madman felt like a crazed bear!

“As expected of the challenger they sent,” Sheyan narrowed his eyes and said. “He seems to have two very powerful abilities. The first one should be similar to a berserk state. Besides increasing his speed dramatically, it also made him immune to any control skills or abnormal conditions.”

“The second ability should be to absorb life force with the attacks he dealt to the enemy and store it in his body, then release it when needed to heal himself! A madman indeed! Unfortunately, defective products are just defective products. It seems like both sides will have to start the fight from scratch again, but the time limit for his transformation should be close, right?

Sheyan’s judgment was correct. Since Ronnie had just suffered from a direct confrontation, he naturally chose a more mobile and evasive fighting method this time, something not unfamiliar to an assassin-type like himself.

Most importantly, it seemed that The Madman’s berserk ability was still in cooldown, or maybe he had no more stamina left to use it. Therefore, the only way he had to threaten Ronnie was to throw the deformed bone axes that grew on his arms.
