Another day of military training ended.

The moment the instructor called out the dismissal order, the entire class of first year Clinical Medicine students let out a cry of sorrow.

All of them were standing still, filled with spirit and vigor. But after the call was made, everyone turned into a deflated tomato. Some of them sat down on the ground, while others even lay down, not wanting to move a muscle.

“Boss, how are you still so energetic? Do you not feel any fatigue?” asked Cao Jianghui. He was now darker after being subjected to the cruel sun.

He came next to Luo Ziling and patted his shoulder. There was a clearly disgruntled expression on his face as he asked, “How are you so strong? Are you on steroids or something? Or is it because of the girls flocking to you during the training?”

During training, quite a few pairs of eyes had kept turning to Luo Ziling. And as if those girls from his own class weren’t enough, they weren’t the only ones. During their break time, girls from neighbouring classes came over to visit in order to get closer to Luo Ziling. Naturally, Cao Jianhui was jealous of him.

Luo Ziling himself was emotionally overwhelmed since he was very much welcomed by the females.

“I like military training. Although it’s a far cry from the real thing, being subjected to military training makes me feel like I’m part of the real military. I wanted to enlist a while ago, but I knew that I never could. Now that I’ve finally gotten a taste of what being in the military is like, I’m satisfied, which is probably why I’m not tired.”

During the entire course, Luo Ziling’s performance was deemed the best. The instructor never once yelled at him. In fact, he was the student that received the most daily compliments. Many other students were impressed, albeit in disbelief, and naturally, Luo Ziling felt proud.

He kept that thought to himself.

He was not tired.

Technically, his grandfather had forced him into martial arts training. This had included running across fields and mountains, training his endurance and vitality to their limits. Compared to the martial arts training his grandfather put him through, this university-level military training couldn’t even get him to break a sweat.

Li Fuming joined in, patting Luo Ziling on the shoulder as he praised him, “Boss, you’re really something.”

“This is really nothing,” said Luo Ziling nonchalantly. “When I was young, I did martial arts. Compared to this, martial arts training is far, far worse.”

“So you did martial arts training… that’s why you’re so strong,” said Wu Longjiang excitedly. “Perhaps you could take us as your disciples! Teach us! Be our instructor!”

“You can’t even handle this military training. What makes you think that you can learn martial arts?” asked Luo Ziling condescendingly. “Know your limits!”

Hurt, Wu Lonjiang almost lost himself and threw himself at Luo Ziling.

While the gang of four laughed their way out of the campus’ west gate, Cao Jianhui suggested that they have dinner outside. Naturally, he was going to foot the bill. Everyone else immediately agreed.

They soon arrived at a place with not many people around, not too far from the training ground. Suddenly, a large group of people surrounded them.

“Huh. Looks like someone’s here for revenge,” said Cao Jianhui. He released his arm that was hung around Luo Ziling’s shoulder. “They are going to attack us.”

Li Fuming released his arm as well. After seeing the group of people coming at them, he tensed up before taking two steps back.

Luo Ziliing took a good look at the people surrounding them. There were at least ten or more well-built and strong-looking young men. He did not know whether they were students from his university or just punks from the streets, as he only knew a few of them.

To be technical, ‘knew’ was not the right word. He only recognized a few of them.

The leading man was Jin Qicai, the man he had once clashed with and pummeled to the ground. Luo Ziling did not even know his name. Some of the others were the same few who had been with Jin Qicai and Li Jiaqing the other day. As for the rest, he had no idea who they were.

“You want to bring it on here?” snarled Cao Jianhui angrily. He pointed his fat, baby-carrot-sized finger at the group and yelled, “You dare to attack us in broad daylight? On campus grounds no less?”

“You are the ones who crossed the line. Little pups like you should have learned your place! Crossing us is the last straw.”

Jin Qicai took a step forward. He crossed his arms across his broad chest and stood in front of Luo Ziling before screaming at him, “Just because you know a few movies, a kick or two, you dare to fight us. I shall teach you today, what will become of you when you cross the wrong people.”

There was someone tall and buff standing next to Jin Qicai. He stood at least 190cm tall and weighed more than 200 pounds. He stomped forward, shoving his middle finger into Luo Ziling’s face before turning it upside down.

“Apologize now and pull your eyes while doing twenty jumping jacks. Do that, and you guys will be able to walk out of here, instead of being left lying on the ground,” he said.

The others with Jin Qicai joined in, fanning out to spread around Luo Ziling and his three roommates.

“Odd. Here I thought Yenching University was supposed to be a famed campus. How is it that there is such rotten garbage in this institution,” said Luo Ziling. He sighed loudly as he turned to a tense and worried Cao Jianhui. “Why is it that famous institutions are just like novels; there will always be bullies ‘tending’ to freshmen.”

“They are probably students in the sports department. That or the martial arts team,” whispered Cao Jianhui. “They regularly look for people to fight. They don’t limit themselves to our university students, they fight outsiders too, all in the name of training themselves.”

After the previous clash with Li Jiaqing, Jin Qicai, and the others, Cao Jianhui had looked into them. He now understood a little about how they behaved. He knew that they were part of the martial arts team or the sports department. They did what they did to increase their own capabilities.

On occasion, they purposely stirred up trouble just to get physical.

To fight is to train. That is how they improved themselves.

Right now, those guys were surely coming to fight Luo Ziling and the other three to take revenge for the other day. Besides that, their other purpose must be to train themselves.

Seeing how Luo Ziling and Cao Jianhui were muttering to each other, Jin Qicai thought they were scared. This made him excited.

“Brother Ye is right. Start squatting and apologizing! Each of you must do it twenty times and then you can leave.”

Laughter followed next and he took out his phone, getting ready to record a video. The others joined in, laughing and taking out their phones to either take a picture or record a video.

Cao Jianhui’s blood started to boil. Even though he was a little jumpy seeing as there were more than ten larger men there, being forced to do something so humiliating was too much for him to comply.

“Bastards! The lot of you! Enough of this bullying! Come and fight if you dare! I’ll play along with your little farce!”

“Hmph. Finally someone daring,” said Jin Qicai, delighted when Cao Jianhui pressed forward. “You fought me the other day, now, if you have the balls, come and fight me instead of just saying it!! I’ll take you on! Let’s see who’s the stronger one!”

“Try me!” barked Cao Jianhui. He rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward, quickly shouting a reminder at his opponent, “If you’re a man, don’t call for help! We fight alone!”

“Gutsy.”

Jin Qicai knew that Luo Ziling was strong since he got beaten the other day. However, he wasn’t scared. He had many companions with him today, and he wanted to earn back the respect he had lost the other day. He quickly nodded in agreement.

“Fine. He who calls for help is trash. I’ll show you like that dog you are, how strong I am!”

The other day, he lost face amongst his friends after being defeated. Today, he would regain his respect no matter what.

Just as Cao Jianhui was about to make his move to take on Jin Qicai, Luo Ziling held him back.

“Move. Don’t block the road!” barked Luo Ziling.

His face was emotionless, cold. The look on his face was not embarrassed or flushed like when he conversed with a girl. No. This time, it was as cold as ice.

Unfortunately, his demand was met with an outburst of laughter from Jin Qicai and his merry friends.
