Chapter 327 – Reclaiming Power in The Dark Night
Yue Wuxin happened to come out of her room when Luo Qiqi and Su Jincheng wanted to go over to bid goodbye to her the next morning.
“You guys are leaving?”
Luo Qiqi nodded. “Yup. We’re planning to go to America and find out more about the situation in The Dark Night before we take any further action!”
After a moment of contemplation, Yue Wuxin asked, “Can I come with you? I don’t really want to stay in Russia anymore. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere else I can go either!”
Luo Qiqi frowned at this. “It’s quite dangerous...”
“I’m not afraid!” Yue Wuxin answered without hesitation.
“You want to leave with us right now?”
Yue Wuxin nodded seriously. “Yes. I’ll go with you guys if you’re leaving now. I can leave anytime!”
Luo Qiqi turned to Su Jincheng and asked for his opinion. “What do you think, Su Jincheng?”
“I think it’s okay. The both of us will be with her, so it should be fine. I won’t allow her to do anything dangerous anyway. She can go there to enjoy the sights. But I think she should let Mr Pedrov know that she’s leaving. He still loves Yue Wuxin.”
An awkward expression appeared on Yue Wuxin’s face.
She wanted to bid goodbye to her father too, but the very thought of having to see a particular woman again made her reject the idea. She hated what Song Xiaoxiao did to her.
As if reading her mind, Su Jincheng said, “Yue Wuxin, she might have gone overboard this time. But it’s a fact that she brought you up and provided for you over the years. That’s something you can never deny. Go back and bid goodbye to them. We’ll leave right after that!”
Though unwilling at first, Yue Wuxin agreed eventually.
All the staff were already back at work at the Presidential Estate.
Yue Wuxin saw Song Xiaoxiao and Pedrov in the living room.
Standing where she was, she called out, “Dad!”
Song Xiaoxiao looked at Yue Wuxin with remorse written all over her face.
The atmosphere felt a little awkward suddenly. Pedrov then stood up and said, “Wuxin, come over and take a seat with your friends!”
Yue Wuxin looked at Luo Qiqi and Su Jincheng. “Go ahead. I’ll do the talking.”
“Dad, I’m leaving for a short trip. I also bought a house in the city, so I’ll be staying there after I return. I’m here to let you know that I’m going on a trip with these friends of mine.”
Pedrov knew that this trip was just Yue Wuxin’s way of getting away from this place.
That may be good for her too. Things might not have taken such a turn if only I had realized Song Xiaoxiao’s plans earlier. Since it’s already come to this, I’ll just let her go on this trip then!
Pedrov nodded at her.
“Be careful, Xin’er. Safety first.”
Yue Wuxin felt tears well up in her eyes.
She stood up quickly and said, “I’m leaving then! Qiqi, let’s go!”
She then left without a second backward glance.
Throughout the whole time she was there, she had never once looked at Song Xiaoxiao.
Luo Qiqi then said, “We’re leaving then, Uncle!”
Pedrov nodded.
When the three of them walked out, they heard Pedrov trying to comfort Song Xiaoxiao in a soft voice.
“Don’t be too upset. She might forgive you in future...”
They headed for the airport immediately.
After arriving in New York, Su Jincheng felt slightly out of place since it had already been two years since he was last in the area. Though New York did not change very much, he felt like a stranger in a strange land.
The Dark Night had been looking all over for Su Jincheng for the past two years, and to prevent any of them from being recognized, all three of them had put on facial prosthetics.
With the additional information from Yue Wuxin, Su Jincheng was able to put together a more or less complete picture of the current situation in The Dark Night.
Right now, the organization worked in a way that was reminiscent of ancient times where the one at the top makes all the decisions. Su Jincheng had a bunch of loyal subordinates when he was the leader in the past since he was able to get their genuine support. The current leader, however, was known to be a cruel and vicious individual, and he acted like that even towards his own men.
After usurping the top position, he sent agents on extremely dangerous missions with absolutely no regard for their safety. This resulted in unhappiness among those in the organization, but because of how the group was structured and the top-down chain of command, no one really dared speak up.
Su Jincheng already had some sort of plan at the back of his mind. The annual meeting of elders would be happening shortly. It was a meeting where the organization would decide on the major plans for the coming year and review all that happened in the past year. The new leader would definitely be at this meeting.
The elders who attended the meeting had quite a lot of power, so Su Jincheng wanted to get them on his side first. He planned to appear unannounced at the annual meeting to dethrone the new leader.
He knew that the new leader had spent a lot of money to bribe the current elders. Thus, for Su Jincheng’s plan to succeed, he had to get rid of those who had accepted bribes and replace them with those he could trust.
According to Yue Wuxin’s information, the new leader was a man called Yuwen Feng and he is the son of one of the most powerful elders in the organization.
Su Jincheng wanted to first visit his trusted subordinates in order to let them know about his plan before proceeding to remove the elders.
Su Jincheng, Luo Qiqi and Yue Wuxin snuck into the home of one of the elders that very night.
It took merely three days for Su Jincheng to visit all of his trusted subordinates. Apart from one turncoat whom he killed on the spot, the others swore to stand by Su Jincheng to help him achieve his goal.
Su Jincheng, Luo Qiqi and Yue Wuxin worked together and killed seven elders quickly, replacing all of them with people whom they trusted and whom Su Jincheng had been keeping in contact with for the past two years.
The annual meeting of elders was to take place five days later.
Su Jincheng, Luo Qiqi and Yue Wuxin had already successfully snuck into Yuwen Feng’s home before the meeting.
Though Yuwen Feng was an extremely cruel man, he was also very much of a coward. He took his bodyguards with him wherever he went.
He brought four bodyguards with him for the meeting this year, afraid that someone would make an attempt on his life.
Su Jincheng and the two ladies were among the four bodyguards.
Luo Qiqi felt uneasy for some reason, as if something bad was about to happen. She kept reminding Yue Wuxin and Su Jincheng to be extra careful.
The meeting was supposed to begin at nine in the evening at The Dark Night’s headquarters.
Yuwen Feng arrived with his bodyguards just one minute before the scheduled time, arousing unhappiness among the rest of the elders who were already present.
With an arrogant attitude, he sat in the main seat and declared the start of the meeting.
The elders began to give their reports about what happened in the past year and their suggestions and plans on what the group should focus on for the next year.
Before everyone could finish, Yuwen Feng suddenly stood up and kicked the chair beside him. “What’s all this? What have you guys been doing for the past year? These are shitty results!”
With how Yuwen Feng had placed all his energy on the rivalry with Sin Eliminators for the past two years, everyone who was present felt that he had no right to admonish them.
One of the elders spoke up in anger.
“Yuwen Feng, you would be nothing now if the original Dark Night didn’t go missing. How dare you talk to us like this? All you can think about is going against Sin Eliminators just because they killed your father. It’s because of your father’s lack of skills that he got killed. You’re free to take your revenge, but you shouldn’t be dragging the entire organization into it!”
At this, Yuwen Feng’s expression darkened.
“What did you say? I dare you to say it again!”
His father was killed by Sin Eliminators shortly after Yuwen Feng obtained his current position in The Dark Night. He thus swore to take revenge for his father, and he couldn’t believe that anyone dared insult his father so openly like that!
That particular elder did not seem the least bit afraid of Yuwen Feng. “I’ll say it again. Blame it on your own father for his lack of ability. You can take your revenge, but don’t drag the entire organization down with you!”
Su Jincheng could already sense everything going downhill from here.
Before he could do anything, Yuwen Feng whipped out a gun.
