Chapter 170: Dekan's Classic Fishing Tactics

"Alright, Milord Marquess," Lysilina bowed to Mauleon like a professional maid before proceeding to the lord's bedroom to awaken the unconscious lord and issue a series of instructions to him. Next, she quickly led her servants downstairs.

Soon enough, the lord, behaving like a servant, respectfully led Dekan and the others to a suite that was no less luxurious than his own bedroom. Once inside the room, all three couldn't help but collapse in exhaustion. Dekan and Cornelia settled onto the couch as usual while Mauleon took a seat at the desk.

"Not bad, seems like a competent hotel manager," Dekan muttered in a low voice.

Confirming they were in a safe area, Teacher Cat emerged from Dekan's shadow. It quickly ran over to the desk where Mauleon was seated, pulled out a piece of paper, and with magical control over the pen, began scribbling on it.

After finishing, it showed the paper to the other three.

Written on it was: "Are you guys crazy! Do you really want to use this countess? What if she finds out and things go south meow?!"

Mauleon, sitting at the desk, took the pen from Teacher Cat and wrote on the paper: "Isn't it a waste to not squeeze out her remaining value? After all, finding and capturing the remaining challengers is a bit of a hassle. If this countess can contribute a bit more before getting taken out, it'd be better."

By daylight, the countess and her servants would only have one-tenth of their fighting strength once they stepped out of the building into the sunlight. It could be said that even if they wanted to escape, Dekan and his team could easily handle them.

Teacher Cat seemed to gradually agree with the plan. After all, it had already gone through a terrifying night when Dekan kept information hidden from it at the mansion. Now, there wasn't much left to fear.

"But can we really catch the Resurgence Church followers tonight, meow?" Teacher Cat wrote on the paper.

Mauleon didn't elaborate much. He merely took the paper and pen, stood up, and walked over to hand it to the collapsed Dekan on the couch.

Dekan accepted the paper and pen with satisfaction. Clearly, Mauleon knew what he intended to do.

So Dekan wrote on the paper: " Mission Objective 2: Defeat Countess Lysilina. If this mission fails, after the mission deadline, Countess Lysilina will be transported to random coordinates in the challenger's original world."

However, after writing this, nothing happened.

Soon, Dekan began writing on the paper again.

"Mission Objective 2: Find Countess Lysilina and defeat her..."

Still in a list format.

The general aspects of the mission were already clear, the only difference was the wording. Once they knew the countess's real name, the mission content was fairly easy to guess.

As for why Mission Objective 2 didn't show up when they first encountered Lysilina, the reason was simple. They lacked a rigorous investigation process and haven’t gone through logical reasoning. As such, the Shadow World couldn't determine if they had truly identified the final formidable enemy.

If the Shadow World was to update the hidden information, it would be equivalent to confirming and verifying the final formidable enemy for the challengers.

It was the consequence of skipping too many steps.

Even the Shadow World couldn't determine whether or not to display the hidden mission.

However, since they had grasped the sentence structure of Mission Objective 3, this time Dekan didn't take long to successfully deduce the correct answer:

[Mission Objective 2: Investigate the conspiracy of the vampires and find Countess Lysilina hidden in the city to defeat her. If this mission fails, after the mission deadline, Countess Lysilina will be transported to random coordinates in the challenger's original world.]

At the same time, the other challengers also received this message.

"Hehehe..."

Dekan couldn't help but chuckle softly.

Presumably, at this moment, Countess Lysilina had also begun her "fishing" operation.

Those greedy Resurgence Church followers, upon seeing the Shadow World’s updated prompt, would surely think that a challenger had made significant progress towards Mission Objective 2!

It was very likely that the mission was almost completed.

What would they think when they just saw the Shadow World prompt that the final formidable enemy was the "countess", and coincidentally found out that there was a group of knight patrol teams in the city, chasing after a heavily injured and weakened female vampire?

Without a doubt, the opportunity to gather kill counts and reap the benefits had arrived. This was a chance that could increase the rewards in the Shadow World’s reward settlement and was practically served on a silver platter. They wouldn't suspect it was a trap.

A scheme made by humans colluding with vampires? Whether it be humans or vampires, they couldn't possibly collude with the Shadow World! After all, the prompts from the Shadow World must be objective, impartial and reliable.

The knights chasing the female vampire were the city's regular forces. The Resurgence Church followers who noticed this wouldn't miss the chance and would definitely move forward to support them. They would attempt to capture the vampire. Then they would be disappointed to find out that this was not the countess they were looking for, only her retainer.

But soon, a knight would inform them urgently that the lord needed to speak with them, promising a substantial reward and information regarding the countess. Next, they would be taken to the lord's manor and ambushed. There would be no chance for escape.

"Thank you, oh Shadow World. Your public channel is really handy," Dekan wrote next to the correct answer.

Although he didn't know if the Shadow World could see it, he was already looking forward to his own evaluation at settlement.

Seeing Dekan finishing up, Mauleon took back the paper and pen. Then, he wrote on the paper, "Alright, it's time to rest. Teacher Cat and I will guard the first half of the night, you two will take the second half," before showing it to Dekan and Cornelia, who were sprawled on the couch.

Dekan was a bit puzzled.

(Shouldn't it be me and Mauleon together, while Cornelia and Teacher Cat make up the other group?)

Dekan wanted to express something, but Mauleon didn't seem to have any intention of giving him the pen and paper.

Meanwhile, Teacher Cat jumped onto Mauleon's head, as if firmly insisting on being in the same group as him.

(When did this annoying cat and this sly old fox become so close...?)

Dekan wanted to complain, but it seemed like his own cat had its own ideas. He just felt helpless.

Dekan and Cornelia exchanged a glance.

Without much fuss, they each went to sleep on opposite sides of the spacious bed.

Soon, both of them fell asleep.

Confirming that the two had fallen asleep, Mauleon and Teacher Cat began their communication.

Mauleon sat at the desk, while Teacher Cat sprawled on the desk, writing and drawing.

It began giving Mauleon one-on-one tutoring, catching him up on the plot points he had missed.

These were all stories it had extracted from Cornelia when they were together.

"Let's start from when the boy meets the girl. Back then, they were still two individuals. No, back then Cornelia was still human, and Dekan was already not quite human..."
