Chapter 127: Chapter 127: News
Kain quickly finished up his chef and departed the venue.
With each moment he could feel Bea's split moving further and further away. He'd need to complete his mission and recall Bea before the splits were too far away for a successful recall.
Therefore, he patiently waited until he sensed he was just about to lose contact and sent a signal to Bea to go in for the kill quickly.
Not even 5 seconds later he received a confirmation of death and brought Bea, along with all of her splits into the star space.
Thankfully, ordinary individuals have no resistance. If he had been a 2-star beast tamer it'd have taken a little longer to kill him and Kain may not have been able to recall the split in time.
Kain flagged a cab and then calmly made his way back to the hotel he'd booked for the night. Nobody would be able to tell that he was responsible for the death that would make headlines tomorrow.
Even Kain was surprised by how quickly he adapted to his new role as an assassin and his first human kill—he slept like a baby that night.
Should he feel guilty?
Well, no matter, he decided to just put yesterday's events behind him and leisurely made his way back to the rundown inn.
On the walk towards the inn with his breakfast of a pastry and coffee in hand, he happened to pass a newspaper stand and decided to purchase it to see if the news of Aric's death had been reported. And, more importantly, if a cause of death had been determined.
Stuffing the rest of the pastry in his mouth and leaving a ridiculous white sugary coating on his lips, he opened the paper with anticipation.
"Record-breaking auction held last night. Final piece sold for 1 trillion CD. Huh..they really left out a lot of information…" Kain muttered under his breath while reading.
Kain finally realized just how much information was censored before it was released to the masses. The news article went on and on about how lucrative last night's auction was and the record-breaking final bid. However, it never actually mentioned the details of any of the items auctioned last night or the identities of the final winners.
If Kain wanted to get any accurate information in the future it looks like he'd need to get access to exclusive places like that event, rather than relying on the information provided by the media. And to get access to those spaces Kain will need both money and power—a lot of it.
Kain continued to flip through the newspaper.
"There was an explosion in the western region…32 civilians are injured, 5 dead…suspected to be due to terrorists but their motives are unknown…"
Flip
"Random beast attacks against civilians are becoming more frequent in the eastern region, it is suspected that another beast tide is eminent…" Kain continued to read on the next page. "Well they've got that right. Although I didn't realize that the beast attacks were increasing throughout the entire east, not just in the vicinity of the school."
Flip
"Another child missing in the capital believed to be in connection to the mass amount of kidnappings over the past 2 years…still no leads have been found."
"Well crap! I should read the news more often. Fortunately, it doesn't seem like there's been many, if any, disappearances in the southern region. The kids back home should be safe…"
"Congratulations to Lady Callista Blackheart and Lord Cassian Evermore on their engagement…who gives a crap!" Kain was getting irritated at not finding the information he wanted. I know that guy wasn't a beast-tamer but surely as the son of a prominent figure his death should cause some buzz. Kain was actually starting to pity the guy.

"A new evolutionary form for the silver-quality Nyxara has been found by Professor Thalorix of Starfire College. It is predicted that the price of Nyxara throughout the empire will usher in an explosive growth as its popularity as a contract increases…Specific details of the evolutionary requirements can be purchased from the patent holder Professor Thalorix." Kain stopped walking for a second.
'How did I miss this? What good is the System if not for this?!'
Kain had been coming up with a variety of money-making plans, but he had really overlooked the profit that could be obtained from patenting a new evolutionary form. However, he couldn't be completely blamed. He hadn't been aware that the discoverer could choose to conceal the knowledge since most evolutionary plans he'd come into contact with were publicly available.
However, that was because majority of them had been discovered centuries ago and the methods had been turned over to the government for the betterment of the nation upon their death. New evolutionary forms were quite rare now.
Kain decided to get more serious with completing the system tasks to hopefully come up with a new evolutionary form that he could profit from.
Heck, if he was really ambitious, he could even choose to hoard the spiritual creatures before announcing the new evolution and selling them for a much higher amount.
Several money-making schemes swirled around in him mind.

"Ahhh… finally! We regretfully announce that Aric Nightsbane, son of Galen Nightsbane, and grandson of Lord Edric Nightsbane past away last night. The cause of death…excessive spiritual power poisoning."
Phew
Kain breathed a sigh of relief. It appears that due to the many glasses of spiritual cocktails last night, Bea's symptoms resembling intoxication, the absence of any poisons or injuries, and, most importantly, Aric's status as an ordinary person, it was determined that Aric got spiritual power poisoning.
A phenomenon usually only seen in ordinary individuals when they consume objects with more spiritual. Power than they could handle.
Kain still couldn't be sure if the Nightsbane family had any doubts about Aric's true cause of death. However, at the very least there shouldn't be a public investigation. Additionally, Kain's methods and identity should have been concealed well enough to not lead the trail back to him.
Nobody at the event, including the other staff members, had even seen his face since he'd worn a mask before even entering.
