Chapter 266: Unlike Mortals
A crisp, clear female voice was heard, and a dashing-looking woman dressed in military uniform walked out.
While the person before him was a woman, she oozed power and intimidation, making it clear that she was not someone to be trifled with.
A Celestial, eh? Lu Xuan raised his eyebrows. He was able to tell that the woman before her was someone at the Celestial Realm. He then noted her military garb and her overflowing aura as a military officer.
It was not difficult for him to speculate that she was probably some elite fighter fostered in the military.
In a world that was about to reach the golden era of cultivators soon, where even the Huaxian government went on to strategically develop an organization like the Special Task Force, it was only natural that the military chose not to sit on their hands.
Due to having funding that rivaled the Special Task Force’s and an organization that specialized in administering violence, the members of the military had a very high number of people with cultivation talents. As such, fostering several Celestial Realm beings was actually quite a simple task.
However, due to the Special Task Force being the one in the spotlight thanks to their high-profile frontline actions, few knew that the military was just as capable.
But then again, not even Lu Xuan expected to see someone like that in the military.
The woman before him looked anything but ordinary. She had an air of aristocracy as well, which was something that could not be nurtured in common households.
It was obvious that the woman had quite a background as well.
Not only did she appear as intimidating as any other elite fighter, but she also carried an air of aristocracy not present among middle-class folks.
“You do indeed live up to your reputation, Mr. Lu.”
The woman cupped her hands as she spoke. Her short hair did nothing to mask her stunning appearance. While it was not to say that she was the very pretty type, but she had a dashing charm about her that many would like all the same.
“I’ve never seen anyone capable of seeing through my level of cultivation so easily since I reached this level of cultivation,” the woman smiled and commented.
“Allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Wei Ziyu. I’m the leader of the Dragon Fang Special Forces, and my rank is colonel.”
Lu Xuan felt rather stunned. The woman called Wei Ziyu before her looked to be in her twenties at best, and becoming a colonel at such an age meant that she was indeed something.
But then again, he speculated that it most probably had a lot to do with her frightening martial arts capabilities. There would have been no way for her to earn enough merits during peace times to rise that quickly in terms of military rank.
The rank above colonel was senior colonel, and that was one step away from becoming general, a truly high-ranking military officer.
“I initially thought that you perished, and I lamented your loss. But I’m glad to hear that you survived, which is why I came all the way on my own to look for you, Mr. Lu,” Wei Ziyu said right away.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?” Lu Xuan frowned and asked.
“It’s nothing. Actually, I just thought of sparring with you for a bit, Mr. Lu. While you’re indeed known to be the number one throughout the world, I’d like to spar with you all the same. Only by trading blows with top-notch fighters will I know where I truly stand at the moment,” she answered frankly.
“Of course, to be honest, there are people who would like to make you and me a couple. I’m rather indifferent to the arrangement, but I suspect that you wouldn’t let others push you around. So, it’s best to just pretend that none of that exists.”
Lu Xuan felt rather exasperated when he heard that. He realized that the meet-up was actually some kind of twisted blind date.
When he first emerged and rose to prominence, there had been countless people who came looking for his parents for matchmaking purposes.
However, as time passed and his status continued to rise, especially when he came to be known as the number one throughout the world, all those people disappeared.
The reason for that was simple—none deemed their daughters fit enough to stand beside Lu Xuan.
Those introduced to him were either popular girls in school or social elites of some kind. While those women were more than enough to be a good match for many, Lu Xuan was deemed overqualified.
He was surprised to find that there actually was someone else harboring such a thought at present. While Wei Ziyu was not considered the prettiest, she was still beautiful, and she definitely had quite a background to boot as well. All of that, coupled with the fact that she was indeed powerful, indeed made her quite a good candidate for cultivation partner for Lu Xuan.
To cultivators, finding a mate and getting a cultivation partner were seen as two different concepts. Cultivation partners were those that cultivators could truly spend their entire lives with.
Taking in a few girls was but an act driven by lust. Said girls would eventually end up dead by old age, yet Lu Xuan would still remain at his prime.
“You’re indeed unusually open-minded,” Lu Xuan said casually.
“So, you’re not against them being the ones in control of your marriage?”
She elaborated in a rather indifferent manner, “I was born to one such family, so I’ve known that to be my fate all along. My marriage was never something I had a say over in, to begin with. If they were to look for someone for me, it would be best to just get someone exceptional, and your reputation precedes you, Mr. Lu. I’ve agreed to this so as to see what you’re made of for myself.
“But well, those thoughts went out of the window from the very second I saw you,” she smiled and added.
“Hmm? So you found me to be a bad match or outright ugly?” he asked with a smile.
She then shook her head and answered, “That couldn’t be further from the truth. Be it looks or powers, or just anything else, you’re indeed the best out there. One could even say that there is no one else like you in the world, but you’re not someone I see as my ideal husband.
“You’re just too fleeting. It’s as if you’ll fly off somewhere the moment I blink. I’d like to find someone that I can understand to be my husband. Yet, you don’t even look like you belong in the world, to begin with. The likes of you would be considered a miracle just based on the fact that you exist in the world as is.” She looked at Lu Xuan as she elaborated.
Lu Xuan felt rather surprised. She was actually able to tell that he was different from the others right off the bat. That was because many only began training only after Spirit Qi had begun to be restored to the world. While many claimed to be cultivators, they were still fundamentally human.
Holding a job while cultivating was something that would be considered absurd elsewhere.
However, it was a common occurrence on Earth.
That was because all of them only began on their journey of cultivation as mortals, and they had yet to be completely transformed.
Lu Xuan’s case was different. He was a Celestial Lord back in his past life, and his transformation had long been completed.
Her perception was apt. If it had not been for his inadequate level at cultivation, his state of mind alone would have long allowed him to ascend to higher heights.
“I have no confidence in being able to spend the rest of my life with you. So, let’s throw all out of that out of the window and spar,” she added, her eyes sharp.
Lu Xuan simply shook her head and said, “There’s no need to try. You’re no match for me.”
Wei Ziyu, however, remained indifferent and answered, “You do have a way crushing the confidence of others. But then again, I won’t be able to rest well until I try my hand. I really want to know what the gap between me is, and what the best in the world is like.”
He took a look at her and was silent for a bit. He then pointed all of a sudden, and his attack shot to the sky. It was a move that was deceptively fast in her eyes.
While she was able to make out every single movement, she had the feeling that she was utterly incapable of evading his attack.
