Chapter 136 - Where Did This Beast Come From?
"So the horse that I met is a special existence among its species and is called an 'etcher'?" The little girl inquired once again which made the man sitting next to her frown.
The Captain had explained the entire concept of the etcher and their etched and this was what she had asked about in return.
This had been the second time that she had asked the same question and he was already getting tired of being her tutor.
'Training a child is extremely taxing when compared to training a squire.' He surmised and let out a loud sigh.
He hadn't yet started his classes with Yvonne and he was already feeling impatient with her.
Noticing his annoyance, Yvonne frowned as she stared back at him with an equally annoyed look on her face.
"It was a simple question, Captain!" She pointed out with a snort.
This action of hers made the Captain of the Red Scorpion Knights to glare at her with his brows scrunched together.
"One question too many already, Yvonne!" He shot back while stressing on her name which she had asked him to use to address her instead of the 'child' that he had been using earlier.
'He is supposed to be a teacher and he has already lost his patience with me?' She stared at the man and a subconscious click of the tongue was soon heard.
Desmo could not believe that this child had just clicked her tongue at him and this caused him to stare down at her.
Yet, before he could say anything about this disrespectful behavior of hers, the etcher which was standing a few feet away from them had arrived at their position in the blink of an eye.
Yvonne looked up and noticed the glimmering red eyes of the beast whom she had vowed to protect and treat as one of her own people.
The leering eyes which were fixed on the Captain made his etcher get into action.
Now, the two etchers were standing face to face as they glared at each other, ready to make their move upon getting a chance.
"Precious, step away." Desmo commanded as he did not want anyone to get hurt here, especially his Precious.
Obeying his commands, Precious took a step away and stood next to her master to make sure that this huge etcher did not try to sneak an attack later on.
Desmo Reel patted her sides to reassure her that he was alright and that nothing would happen as long as they were next to each other.
He could make out that though he did not know much about the classification of the new etcher, he was sure that this mighty beast was at a much higher level than his own.
Any misstep and his etcher might have to bear the brunt of it and so he had decided to get her to step down first.
"Pffftttt…." Yvonne's chortle brought him back from his thoughts about the etcher who was stronger than his Precious.
The little girl covered her mouth with her palm and continued giggling as she alternated her gaze between the man and his beast.
At first, Desmo was stunned when he saw the cute appearance of the little girl who was cheerfully laughing but those feelings soon faded away.
"Who are you laughing at!?" He snarled upon noticing that they were the object of her laughter.
It took Yvonne a few seconds to calm herself before she could answer the man's query.
"You named your etcher 'Precious'? Pffttt…" She snickered once again after making the reason for her laughter to be known.
'Such weak naming skills!' She shook her head, denouncing his weak ability which had named such a beautiful horse as 'Precious'.
This query made him frown as he had used up a lot of his time to think of what he should name his etcher.
When Duke Tanner had explained what etchers were and their role in the life of the etched, he felt that they were too precious and rare.
As though lightning had struck his mind, he realized that the perfect name for his beast was to name her 'Precious' and thus she was called so henceforth.
Thinking back to the effort and time he had put in to think of a proper name for his etcher, he scoffed when he remembered what this student of his had done.
"What did you name yours? Heh, Demon, was it?" He smirked while mocking the name that Yvonne had given to her etcher.
However, the child was not affected by his mocking words, nor was she disheartened that she had messed up while naming the beast.
"Was I wrong, Captain?" She inquired while tilting her head to the side.
She then turned towards her etcher and rubbed his soft coat while smiling at him.
"This dark coat which resembles the darkness of the depths in the abyss, this steady and powerful body that instills fear in whoever was to witness it and lastly, those crimson eyes which seem to be filled with blood." She mentioned Demon's features while gazing at him.
The beast did not move an inch as he stood still for the evaluation he was receiving from his master.
"Everything about him makes me think of just one word and that is 'Demon' so why can I not name him that?" She polled as she moved her gaze towards the Captain.
This time, Captain Desmo Reel was silent as he focussed on the features that she had just mentioned and it seemed as though her reasons for naming the etcher 'Demon' was feasible.
Not wanting to further discuss something that could not be changed any longer, he nodded to indicate that he acknowledged her words.
"Before we move any further… We need to figure out where did this beast come from." He asserted and fixed his scrutinizing gaze at those dark bloody eyes.
Demon fearlessly stared back at the man as though he had nothing to hide.
"Why does it matter where he has come from? He is mine now and that is all that I care about." The girl's haughty words made him scoff.
"Why would an etcher be here in this estate? How have you not thought about the possibility that this one does not belong here?" He tossed another question at her.
Being a member of the Red Scorpion Knights which dealt with the safety and peace among the commoners, he had been trained to be suspicious of everything and everyone he sees.
This trait was acting up as he wished to know how this beast had ended up in the St. Claire estate.
'How can such a mighty beast mysteriously appear in this estate?' He wondered as he continued to stare at Demon.
Yvonne rolled her eyes then turned to Demon as though to ask him where he was from.
However, the huge etcher looked away instantly, avoiding her eyes and stared down at the grass below.
Instead of noticing his strange actions, Yvonne was more focused on something else.
'Did I just… Was I expecting a horse to give me a proper reply!?' She shook her head at this foolish behavior of hers.
