Chapter 142 - What Is It?
Since Yvonne had received the confirmation from her tutor that she had succeeded in staying out of the radar of the Royal family, she did not ponder on it any longer.
Her only source of information about matters regarding the outside world was this man and hence she had chosen to trust his words.
Today, Marquess Samed had decided to teach her about the trade routes that had been used by the merchants in the Kingdom since days of old.
The three-hour-long class was excruciating for Yvonne as she tried her best to stay awake and was almost caught stifling her yawn on multiple occasions.
The tutor kept glaring at her and this was the only reason that kept her awake instead of nodding off right there in her seat.
'This is the fourth time that I have caught her nodding off during my class! Is what I teach that dull and uninteresting that she has to fight her sleep and stay awake?' The aggrieved tutor cried out in his mind at this injustice he was facing.
Not being able to keep his silence any longer, Marquess Samed let out a sigh and then shut the large hard-bounded book with a loud bang.
'Huh? Huh?' Yvonne jolted awake from her drowsy state as she looked around to figure out where the noise had come from.
"Was the class too boring for the likes of our young miss?" Marquess Samed's sarcastic voice brought her attention to him.
Watching her actions as she groggily rubbed her eyes to disperse the drowsiness that she had been feeling until now further infuriated him.
'Well, it is not my fault that today's class was just so boring!' She pouted as she looked at the seething man sitting on the other side of the table.
Sullivan could only shake his head and then sat up straight.
'I keep forgetting that she is a child who might find that these lessons are not interesting.' He deduced and then decided to end his class for the day.
"Remember the trade routes that you had made for the three-step plan?" He questioned which was answered with a nod.
'The one which is in the hands of the King at this moment.' He coughed and looked away to hide his guilty conscience.
Yvonne could not understand why this man had been coughing so often today and just as an obedient student would, she handed him a glass of water.
This kind gesture of hers made the Marquess to feel even worse for lying to her but what was done could no longer be undone.
"I want you to think of three new trade routes. That is your home assignment for the day." He announced and then gathered up his things.
Yvonne was stunned at first that he was asking her to do this assignment which required intensive research and what was worse that he expected her to display the results by tomorrow.
'Does he think that I am some kind of a machine which can churn answers out and can function without a break?' She blinked at him as these thoughts were swirling in her brain.
Noticing her apprehensive face, Marquess Samed rolled his eyes before pausing for a few seconds.
"Has Miss St. Claire forgotten the fact that the weekend is soon arriving? The assignment needs to be submitted after the weekend." He informed the ignorant child who had truly forgotten about it.
'Those two days in bed messed up my schedule.' She blamed the forced leave that she had been granted by Captain Desmo.
Thinking of that man, she was reminded of her new pet and then glanced up at the Marquess.
Sullivan narrowed his eyes when he saw the cheerful glimmer in her eyes as she stared at him.
'Hmm? I don't have anything stuck on my face now, do I?' He wondered and then immediately raised his hand to feel his face.
When he realized that there was nothing wrong with his face, he stared back at the child with confusion apparent on his face.
"What is it?" He interrogated while narrowing his eyes.
Of course, Yvonne was not going to miss out on this opportunity to mess with this man and hence she blinked her eyes innocently.
"I have a new pet." She declared while showing off her pearly white milk teeth.
The Marquess rolled his eyes when he saw the overly enthusiastic little girl and the reason for this excitement was a mere pet.
'She is still a child after all.' He surmised and then gave her a brief nod.
"That is good. Now that your brother will be away at the Academy, you will need someone to help you pass the?day with."?He expressed his opinion after hearing her news.
Yvonne nodded while biting her lip to stop her chuckle which was waiting to erupt after hearing his words.
'Yes, Demon will do just that!' She snickered in her heart.
"Would you like to see him?" She proposed while batting her lashes at him.
The pleading look on her face coupled with the pouting lips made the Marquess sigh as he agreed to her offer.
'Why not? It must be a bunny or a puppy that the Earl must have brought home for her entertainment.' He assumed as he stood up from his seat.
Soon Yvonne and her tutor were seen walking through the halls of the mansion as they made their way towards the place where her new pet would most probably be.
"Is he playing in the grounds behind the mansion?" Marquess Samed inquired when he saw that they had left the house and were walking under the clear blue sky.
The little girl did not reply but gave him a nod in answer while pointing her stubby finger in a certain direction.
Then she stepped ahead with the young man following after her.
In a few seconds, they had reached open grounds which were used for grazing the horses that were in this estate.
"Where is it?" Sullivan questioned as he saw no animal around him.
At a short distance, he could make out a stable present which made him ponder on whether her new pet was a horse instead of the puppy or bunny that he had imagined earlier.
"Demon!" Yvonne's soft and clear voice echoed in the meadow.
"Demon?" Sullivan repeated while looking down at the child.
However, Yvonne's eyes were not focusing on him but in a certain direction.
Upon turning in that direction, Marquess Samed felt as though he was about to faint due to the panic that he had experienced at that moment.
A few meters away from them was a mighty dark horse that was galloping at them at full speed.
Though the Marquess was a timid man, his first reaction was to shield the little girl from the huge beast which was soon closing in on their location.
Yvonne looked up when she observed that her view was being obstructed by the man who had taken a step to stand between her and her pet.
'I want to see my beautiful etcher and not your flat butt!' She growled in her heart as she glared daggers at the butt which was right before her eyes at this moment.
