Chapter 178 - Baron Quinn MacIntyre

Chapter 178 - Baron Quinn MacIntyre

Raylene and Yvonne sat in silence while the man who owned the cafe was on his way over after receiving the news from his servants.

He had been celebrating the news of his cafe's desserts being sent over to the Royal Palace with his wife when he was informed about the Earl's family asking for his presence in the cafe.

Not wanting to make that fierce man's family wait any longer, he rushed at the fastest pace he could.

Yvonne watched as the man with a huge belly made his way into the cafe and towards where they had been sitting all along.

'Looks like he is the one who tastes all the treats first before putting them out on the shelves.' She mocked the obese man who was now standing before her and her mother.

The sweat dripping from his forehead as he wiped them away was the evidence of his hurried arrival at the cafe.

Ginger beard with a receding hairline containing the same ginger hair was what Yvonne noticed when she observed him.

The oval face gave him a big live teddy bear's appearance which was now glistening with sweat.

He had a perfectly circular and protruding stomach as a result of indulging in the treats that his favorite employee, Mr. Baker prepared every single day.

"How may I be of any help to you, Countess?" He inquired while flashing his friendliest smiles.

Yvonne rolled her eyes at the man who was being overly submissive but to the wrong person.

The owner of the cafe was a Baron of a small fief and the best property belonging to his name was this cafe that he had opened in the days of his youth.

Now that he was touched the age of forty, he no longer had the desire to try his luck with any other businesses and solely depended on the profits that came to this store.

Hence when he received word from his servant that the Countess of St. Claire had asked for his presence, the man was worried that something must have angered the fair lady.

He knew of the fierce wrath of the Earl who was the youngest yet richest nobleman in the Kingdom after the Royal family.

Even the Ducal families could not compare to his wealth.

This caused him great anxiety as he did not want to gain his displeasure which might affect his business as well.

The Baron was watching Raylene to gauge her reaction however even after waiting for a few seconds, she did not have any.

There was no anger, no hostility, and definitely no animosity which might indicate that he and his store were in trouble for offending them.

Raylene was just as confused and clueless as the Baron and hence she did not give out any answer when she was questioned earlier.

'Can you at least point me out so that I might speak?' Yvonne turned towards her mother with judgment clear in those amethyst eyes.

Once Raylene recalled that the person who had asked for the owner was her little girl, she let out a sheepish chuckle before nodding at the man who still stood before them.

As the Baron was of a lower social standing coupled with the fact that they were women belonging to another man, Earl St. Claire, he did not dare to sit at the same table with them.

The fear of the huge man was enormous in his heart and he did not desire to gain his wrath by any means necessary.

Neither did Yvonne know about the terror that this man had in his heart for Rutherford nor was she interested in knowing more about it.

She had a purpose for calling this man over and now was the time to fulfill that purpose.

"Baron MacIntyre, pleased to meet you here." Raylene greeted the man who stood before them.

This sentence made both Baron MacIntyre and Yvonne turn towards the Countess.

'Of Course, you would meet him here! This is his cafe and I called him over!' She growled at the foolish yet mildly cute words her mother had just uttered.

The ditzy Countess did not understand what she had done wrong and moved on with her words.

Baron MacIntyre and Yvonne shared a subtle glance before looking away.

That glance was one filled with sympathy from the Baron while Yvonne's eyes held an apology for the words of her mother.

As Raylene was ignorant of the silent conversation that her daughter and this man were taking part in, she continued speaking.

"My daughter here would like to have a few words with the Baron if that is alright with him." She spoke with the air of a noble that she was taught to be from a young age.

'Where did this behavior go just a second ago?' Yvonne scowled at the woman who was now all prim and proper once again.

Raylene had her moments of being clumsy and elegant which was one of the things that attracted Rutherford's excessive doting and love for his wife.

Baron Quinn MacIntyre, the owner of this little cafe, turned his gaze towards the little girl who had been seated by her mother's side.

Those big amethyst eyes had been on him ever since he had entered the store and he was not oblivious to this.

He had just chalked this to a child's curiosity towards something or someone new and had not taken her into regard until the previous silent interaction that they had.

"How may I help the little miss?" He repeated his question but this time to Yvonne who smiled at him.

The smile was a pleasant sight to behold and Baron MacIntyre was charmed by the little girl.

'How can such a fierce-looking man have such a pretty and innocent looking child?' He wondered as he smiled back at the little girl.

He had a few dealings with the Earl previously and each time, the Baron could not help but feel as though he was conversing with a terrifying beast who would gobble him up if he made a single mistake.

This had put the fear of the Earl in his heart which was unshakeable even to this day.

Hence, he would do his best to keep the mother and child happy while they were inside his store.

Yvonne had noticed the fear that had flashed through his eyes but she was not aware of the cause of that fear.

Instead of answering the man's question, she turned her eyes to the Baker which made him stand at attention.

"Are there any cupcakes left?" She questioned the man who nodded eagerly.

This question brought a frown to both the server and the Baron's face as they glared at the back of the man who had hurried into the kitchen to fetch the cupcakes that had been leftover.

While the Baron had frowned due to the nasty reputation the cupcakes had, the server frowned for a whole different reason.

He was the only one who had yet to have a taste of the cupcake that the baker and remaining customers of the cafe had enjoyed thoroughly.

'Looks like I will have to wait until tomorrow to taste them.' He cursed his luck as the last remaining piece would now go into his Master's protruding belly.
