Chapter 287 - Already Aware Of Fryght's Existence
Taylor was enamored after seeing such a cute little puppy in his friend's arms, making the desire to pat the pup rise in his heart.
Topher and Damien had been watching the puppy with keen eyes and noticed this sneaky move of the younger Tanner boy.
"Stop!" Topher ordered his brother to freeze in his steps which he did, surprised at this sudden outburst.
Turning around, Taylor glared but then pouted when he saw his brother's glare in return.
"What were you going to do, you fool!?" He glowered in a low voice while making sure that none of the adults could hear him.
Damien stood at the side and enjoyed the show while Howard rose to his feet with Fryght still in his arms.
"I wanted to touch the puppy!" Taylor whined that he was interrupted before he could make his sneak attack on the fluffy creature.
The black and silver fur accentuated the wolf-like image of the pup which only increased Taylor's desire to pet it.
"Not unless you want your hand bitten off." Topher scoffed and raised his chin in the little pup's direction.
When the younger brother turned around, he shivered when he saw the vicious glint in the beast's eyes which had been absent until now.
Even Howard was confused when he saw the usually docile beast acting so cautious of someone else however, his friend had already misinterpreted something here.
"You don't let me pat your sister and now you won't let me pat the dog as well?" Taylor glared at his friend who was being extremely selfish in his eyes.
Damien bit his lip and looked away to stop his chortle when he saw the throbbing vein on his best friend's forehead.
"What makes you think that an etcher will allow you to touch it as you please?" Topher snarled at his ignorant brother.
"Etcher!?" Both Howard and Taylor exclaimed out loud in confusion at this statement made by the bigger boy.
By now, Rutherford and the two tutors had come over after noticing the commotion taking place in this side of the garden.
The Earl understood what might have happened when he saw his etcher in his son's arms with his fur standing, alert and vigilant of the boy who stood a few feet away from them.
"Behave!" He commanded and the beast went back to being the docile little puppy it pretended to be.
Marquess Samed and Captain Desmo glanced at the beast and for some reason, they felt that this etcher resembled the little girl who was under their tutelage.
'Even she is adept at concealing her real side from everyone, just like this beast!' Sullivan shook his head at the similarity between the two.
'Pretend to be adorable but are scary on the inside. They should have been each other's fated instead.' Desmo clicked his tongue at the beast who was now snuggling in Howard's arms.
Rutherford noticed their similar reactions but did not pay any heed to them as he stepped closer to his son.
The etcher whimpered under the fierce glare of his Master and hid his face in the younger boy's chest.
Howard giggled when he felt ticklish due to the puppy's actions which only made his friend envious of him.
However, the giggle died down when he recalled the words that Topher had spoken.
"Etcher?" He muttered as he glanced at the cute puppy and then at the elder boy who had disclosed this new information to him.
The nod he received from his idol in the Royal Academy made his eyes widen in surprise.
"Did you not see how this puppy was with Captain's etcher as they tried to stop Miss Yvonne's etcher when she was heading back after the first trial?" Topher reminded them about the events of earlier.
This brought a flash of understanding through their eye as they had indeed seen the pup standing against that monstrous etcher of the little girl.
But the fact that this adorable-looking puppy was also an etcher was something that had taken them by surprise.
"Why was I never told about this?" Howard questioned his father as this was new information for him.
Rutherford let out a similar sheepish chuckle to the one he did when he had first revealed the existence of his etcher to his daughter.
However, the only difference between the two instances was that Howard was already aware of Fryght's existence, he was just ignorant of the fact that the little pup was an etcher.
He had been under the impression that this wolfhound was a pup that his father had found and brought over to their mansion.
The young St. Claire did not know that this little pup had been with the Earl from his days of youth.
The Countess and a few of the older servants in the mansion were the only ones aware of its real identity.
Now, even the two children of the family had been introduced to the etcher which took a load off the Earl's shoulders.
"Excuse my etcher, he does not like mingling with new people." Rutherford spoke to the Tanner boy who was staring at the pup with a pouting face.
Topher nodded in understanding and glared at his brother who agreed even though he was very reluctant to let this chance go.
Howard continued to watch the little puppy in his arms and was amazed that this was an etcher.
'So Papa and that little imp have etchers but I don't?' He realized as he continued to call his sister an imp.
He had decided to reconcile with her but old habits die hard.
Thus he was still calling her the same old names that he often used when speaking to or about her.
At the other side of the mansion, the two horses who were also etchers were headed in this direction.
When the crowd noticed them coming from the other side, they stopped speaking and waited for the two etchers to arrive.
Precious went over to her Master while Demon walked towards the Earl.
The smart etcher knew that his Master was not present and hence had gone to the other person he was most familiar with in this group.
However, before Demon could get closer to the man, there was someone who had blocked his path.
The atmosphere became silent when two pairs of eyes clashed against each other.
Standing face to face were two etchers, one tall and monstrous while the other, tiny and adorable.
Though, the difference in their sizes did not matter as they were exuding similar frightening auras as they gazed into each other's eyes.
Demon's red eyes were glowing as he lowered his head to look at the petite figure of the puppy with grey eyes.
The young boys were staring at the two etchers who appeared to be in silent confrontation ever since they met each other.
"Fryght, stand down." Rutherford mediated with a stern voice, making his etcher growl loudly as he took a step away.
The puppy then stood next to his Master as though he was indicating that he did not want the horse to get closer to his etched.
In response, Demon snorted and raised his head as he walked towards the lake, proving that he did not wish to stick to the other etcher's master as well.
