Chapter 306 - A Minor Misunderstanding
As time went by, just as Yvonne had expected, many things transpired according to her speculations.
The Princess's birthday caused an uproar among the noble families and the reason for this was the invaluable gifts she received from the other members of the Royal family.
The news of Baron MacIntyre's cafe preparing the snacks for this event was the next shocking thing everyone was talking about.
The Royal family decided to serve something that was not made by the chefs in the Palace was indeed worthy of their attention.
Not only did this garner attention of the nobles, but this also caused the popularity of Baron MacIntyre's cafe to bloom exponentially.
It had been a month since the birthday celebration and today was a special day for Yvonne St. Claire.
She rose early this morning and after her training with Captain Desmo Reel, she attended her usual classes before she heard the news of the arrival of a certain guest she had been looking forward to meeting.
Therefore, right now, the little girl sat next to her father in the Parlor, and opposite them sat the plump Baron who had come to pay them a visit.
'More like pay me the money.' The excited little girl stared at the man who was looking at her as well.
Yvonne curbed her joyful grin with great difficulty as she smiled at him in an amicable manner.
However, the Baron did not hide his blossoming smile as this was proof of how he felt at this moment.
His business had reached new heights after his cafe had catered for the birthday celebration of the Princess and this was enough to keep him smiling all day long.
For the past month, he had been raking in the nobles' money and he could not have been happier in doing so.
With the amount he earned, he would never have to bother about his old age as the earnings of just the first month were enough to last him for the entire year.
'If things keep going on in this way, then I will never have to worry about my retirement funds.' He gleamed with excitement at the huge amount he had obtained through the sales of numerous treats sold in his cafe.
Since he was earning more than what he had expected, the Baron did not feel any apprehensions as he arrived at the St. Claire Mansion today.
It was time for him to pay the little girl for her contribution to the recipe of the cupcake that she had shared with him.
If this was earlier, then the greedy man would have hesitated to share his wealth with her.
But now looking at the amount he earned after just one month, he was baffled, and at the same time, his brain began whirring at full speed.
'I cannot wrong her or the good name of my cafe might be tarnished for the sake of saving small amounts.' He decided to be just in what he owed the little girl for her efforts.
After all, Yvonne St. Claire would only get 30% of the profits obtained from the sale of cupcakes.
He still had many more treats sold in his cafe so the overall profit he made this month was ten folds or higher than what he would have to give to her.
She had also pointed this discrepancy in their profits back when he had signed the agreement.
Therefore, he did not have any qualms to come over today, one month after the spike in his sales.
"Ever since the celebration, my cafe has gained the patronage of every noble family in the Capital." Baron Quinn MacIntyre stated while grinning widely.
'As expected!' Yvonne and Rutherford nodded in unison as they had already predicted such an outcome.
"With the Royal family's approval, everyone just flocked to show their support." He added and saw them nod once again.
Seeing how the pair of father and child did not speak too much today, Baron felt awkward and decided not to stretch this meeting out any longer.
However, what he did not know was that the little girl was controlling her eagerness as she would finally take a look at the money she earned for the first time in this world.
'My first step in gaining the investment needed for my future businesses!' The little girl suppressed the urge to giggle in excitement as there were others around her.
But he had no way of knowing this, so he decided to get to the task for which he had come here.
He then moved his hand into his coat's pocket and pulled out an envelope.
"This is Miss Yvonne's share of the profit." He explained and then extended his hand in the Earl's direction.
Noticing the sleek envelope, the little girl's brows furrowed as though she was displeased.
'I was expecting a big bag of gold coins so why is it just a simple envelope?' She wondered with a frown now appearing on her face.
Rutherford too furrowed his brows as the envelope was too thin to even hold a couple of back notes.
Yvonne also was aware of this difference and their faces fell.
'Is he trying to con me out of my money by giving me just a few notes instead of what I truly owe?' She glowered in her heart and then straightened her back.
The father and child had similar expressions of disappointment and anger which the Baron had noticed after a few seconds' delay.
"This is a bank card authorized by the Royal Bank with Miss St. Claire's name on it." He clamored to defend his honor.
It was true that he was reluctant to share his money with her at the beginning but ever since he had seen the overall profit he had made, he no longer fretted about the small amount he had to hand over to the little girl.
Therefore, he did not wish to gain the wrath of the scary Earl over a minor misunderstanding on their part.
His explanations made the two St. Claires pause as they stared at the envelope.
Rutherford finally reached out his hand and accepted it before opening it.
Yvonne's eyes were fixed on the big hands which reached into the paper envelope.
'Beautiful!' A single thought filled her head as she watched her father hold a certain card in his hand.
The rectangular black card in Rutherford's hand had golden engravings on it.
{Yvonne St. Claire}
The name etched on the card seemed to be written in the prettiest font that she had ever seen.
'I had no hopes of seeing a card in this world!' She exclaimed as this looked just like the credit cards in her old world which brought another thought to her mind.
'How will I swipe this card to get my money?' She wondered and there was uncertainty written on her face.
Rutherford chuckled when he saw the confusion apparent on his child's chubby face as he leaned closer to her ear.
Patting her head, he handed over the card to her as this was rightfully her possession.
The little girl marveled at the intricate design made on the card and ran her fingers over it.
"I shall explain everything later." He then promised to ease the worries in her heart.
In response, Yvonne nodded and they turned their sights in the direction of the man sitting before them.
Baron MacIntyre sighed when he noticed that they no longer stared at him as though he had deceived them.
"It was a pleasure doing business with you, Baron." The Earl praised while nodding at the man.
'Though I will have to contact the Royal Bank and find out how much he has put in this card.' He chose to remain silent about his next move.
Though he was receiving a compliment from the scary man, Baron Quinn MacIntyre nonetheless felt shivers running down his spine.
He could feel that the Earl did not speak up but he had his doubts about this matter.
"The money for each month will be sent to this card on the first day without failure." The Baron declared righteously and would keep his word.
If not for the fear of the Earl, he would certainly do it for fear of his cafe's good reputation being tarnished if he deflected on payments owed to this little girl.
Yvonne sat in silence as the spectator of the entire show that took place and watched as the Baron left their Mansion soon after completing this transaction.
'I won't have to face that scary man every month!' The Baron cried out once he was seated in his carriage that soon drove away.
