Chapter 309 - Raylene Was Disheartened
At around four in the evening, when the sun was not as harsh as in the daytime, the little girl finally decided to venture outside her room.
When Mrs. Jacinth offered to walk with her, she refused her kind offer and informed that she wished to be left alone.
"I will visit Demon and come back soon." Yvonne explained the reason for not bringing her old maid along which softened the aggrieved frown that had come upon her nanny's lips.
'Why am I surrounded by such pouting children?' She wondered while waving at her maid and then strode through the corridors, towards the entrance of the mansion.
As she walked, she recalled another pouting child she had to deal with a few weeks ago.
__
When Yvonne had decided to talk to her mother and try to explain how the Countess needed to stop being stubborn about Howard returning to the Mansion each week, she did not know that it would be such an arduous task.
That very day after her conversation with Marquess Samed about how the Royal Medical Association should spread the word about health safety among the commoners, she had decided to speak to her mother as well.
That evening, instead of staying in her room, she chose to accompany her mother for tea.
The joyful mother did not know the reason for this sudden change in her daughter's plans nonetheless she was excited to spend time with her.
"Would you like some cookies, Vonny?" She offered while raising the plate towards her.
Yvonne smiled amicably and did not reject the kind offer as she picked one up.
While munching on the sweet delicacy, her little brain was trying to think of the method she needed to use to express her thoughts to her mother.
Raylene had been in a great mood thanks to her son who had kept his promise and came over to visit during the weekend and on the next day, she got to have evening tea with her Vonny.
Therefore, she was happier than ever but that happiness would not last for long.
Yvonne finished the cookie and wiped the crumbs off her lips as she smiled at her mother, trying her best to appear adorable enough that her every whim would be accepted without any further inquiries.
"Mama, did you notice how tired Big Brother was this morning when he left?" She inquired while pretending to be speaking about the thought that had come to her mind.
Raylene paused while sipping her tea before she completed her actions and set her cup aside.
"What made you think in that way?" She retorted as she tried to recall how her son looked before he left.
Howard had come over late in the evening on Saturday and spent most of his time in bed and only made an appearance for lunch on Sunday.
He then returned to his room after spending some time with his family as he had some home assignments to complete for the next week.
Then again, he appeared when he was about to leave for the Royal Academy.
Raylene's brows furrowed when she recalled the events of the two days of the weekend that her son had spent in their Mansion.
'He did seem exhausted… Was it due to the long journey?' She wondered and those brows scrunched further.
Yvonne smiled when she noticed the look of realization that had taken over her mother's face.
'She truly just needs a nudge to move ahead.' She ascertained this trait of her mother's.
Raylene did not notice her daughter's proud expression as she was deep in her troubling thoughts.
"Was Howie exhausted because he was traveling too much?" She muttered to herself and began pouting.
She wished for her child to be close to her at all times just like any other mother would but she did not want him to do so at the expense of his health.
"He wanted to make us happy by coming back often." The little girl's whisper reached her ear which made her lookup.
Yvonne made sure to specify that it wasn't her fault for this and added that he was doing this for everyone's sake.
But the mother knew that she was the main reason behind his decision for doing so.
"I cannot let him tire himself out this way!" She exclaimed with renewed vigor.
Raylene had never been to the Royal Academy and hence she had no clue about the distance between their Mansion and the Academy.
She was under the impression that a simple journey of a few hours would suffice to move between the two places but that did not seem to be the truth.
Howard's exhaustion due to his hard work each day at the Academy coupled with the excessive training he underwent and the traveling was already taking its toll on him.
"If he is tired after just one week, how would my baby cope up if he has to do this each week?" She exclaimed in terror at just the thought of what the outcome might be.
Yvonne watched in silence as just a few words from her had influenced her mother into changing the way she thought about this matter.
However, this did not change the fact that her mother was upset that due to her stubborn and willful nature, she had to watch her son suffering the consequences.
The same evening, after their tea time, Raylene locked herself in her room, sulking at what she had done.
But before she could do so, she had written a letter to her son in which she expressed her sincere apologies for not thinking about his health and behaving so willfully.
She even asked him to only return when he was feeling better.
She also added that he need not feel bad for not returning often as his health was more important to her.
Yvonne did not know whether what she had done was right or not as her mother had become disheartened ever since that incident.
She missed her son but did not know how to meet him since they were separated by the distance between them.
'So melodramatic!' Yvonne rolled her eyes when she thought of how her mother had reacted to what she had said.
But even she could not fact that he had been away for too long.
__
A month had passed yet her son had not returned home.
Raylene was still pouting each day but could only bury the grievances deep in her heart as she carried on with her daily routine.
She even went as far as keeping herself busy with work to avoid thinking about this matter each day.
The little girl recalled the events that had taken place over the past few weeks and could only sigh.
By now, her tiny feet had reached the stable which was her destination just as she had finished reminiscing the events of the previous weeks.
Yvonne entered the stable and found a familiar scene that she was used to seeing by now.
Butler Limo stood by the horse's side as he brushed the soft black mane of the etcher.
Demon, on the other hand, did not seem to mind another human touching him as he was also used to this daily occurrence.
"Ahem!" She cleared her throat to announce her presence which they had failed to notice even after she had been standing at the door for a few seconds.
'You are my etcher but you failed to notice my appearance here?' She narrowed her eyes at the beast who seemed to be enjoying the sensation of the brush against his coat.
Butler Limo was surprised to see that his Young Miss had arrived earlier than expected today.
Usually, she would arrive only after the sun was too far away from them and was at the horizon but she had decided to visit her etcher sooner today.
The little girl did not offer her help to comb her horse's mane today instead dragged the chair over and took her seat before the two.
Butler Limo smiled at the little girl who exhibited the aura of a Lord as she sat with her back straight and her face expressionless.
By taking a single look at her actions, he was able to make out why she had come over earlier today.
"The report?" She questioned, proving that his deductions were right on the mark.
