Chapter 647 - Opinions Of A Girl

Yvonne did not know why the King had just looked at her with a meaningful smile before he glanced at the rest of her family as well.

However, what she did know was, the main villainess's father was not an easy nut to crack.

Duke Brodie might have accepted what the King said today but how far was he willing to take it?

Would he pay heed to something his daughter said?

Would he be able to treat her better rather than being cold to her just because she was born a girl?

Or would he continue to be disappointed in her due to the gender that she had been born with?

With such pressing thoughts in her mind, Yvonne was gazing at the Duke with doubt evident in her amethyst eyes.

Duke Brodie did not know what he had done to obtain such a distrustful stare from her but he shook his head and decided to ignore it for now.

The King was overjoyed with such a simple statement he had made which was making him wonder why he felt this way?

Ever since they were young, Maldock Brodie had been around the then young Prince Ophire.

The Prince was different from the other nobles he met and also had a strange way of dealing with things.

His ideals, though seemed just like his, were different at the same time.

Especially in the matter regarding the way women were treated in Rosenhyde.

King Ophire had always felt annoyed with the lower status of women and ever since his Queen gave birth to a daughter, his annoyance had only escalated.

He had often confided in Maldock that he did not want his daughter to be put down just for her gender.

At those times, Duke Brodie would always remind the King that women were respected by everyone, it was only that they could not participate in any important decision and that their opinions didn't matter.

'And you do not see any issue with that!?' Was what the King would always reply to him.

Duke Brodie shook his head at such times as he could see no wrong in what was being done.

However, King Ophire would always let out an exasperated sigh before changing the topic, making him assume that this was the end of their discussion only for them to pick it up on another day.

Numerous times they had come to the same conclusion.

The stalemate between them was a constant occurrence because King Ophire had no way to prove his point.

This changed after the Marquess had come to them with the policy and its modifications.

King Ophire had kept this matter in his heart without even letting his closest friend know about it as he knew that Maldock Brodie would object to it.

He did not know how long he would have to wait but surprisingly, the plague had occurred not long after.

The changes implemented were a boon to them and they were able to avert the crisis through its support.

Hence giving King Ophire a chance to reveal to everyone that the suggestions, the opinions of a girl child had helped them in their time of need.

He had been biding his time and now that it was here, he had revealed the truth before them.

Duke Maldock was both amazed and amused by the King and the lengths that he was willing to go to prove his point.

His eyes then fell on the child and then at her father.

He had heard a lot about Earl St. Claire and how indulgent of a husband and father he was.

He had been present when the messenger had returned to the Palace from the St. Claire fief during the plague.

Therefore, he had heard about the Earl being silent and letting his wife act as she pleased and making decisions on his behalf as well.

While he wasn't too happy with this behavior of the Countess, he could not deny that her ideas were a great help to the Royal Hospitals.

The patients were in need of clothing that they had not even thought about as they were more focused on keeping them from starving to death.

At that time, King Ophire had said something that had struck a chord in his mind.

{Only a woman would have thought of this so we should be grateful to the Countess for her help.}

The King was right as none of their minds had even gone to that aspect.

It was only after the messenger had revealed what had taken place in the St. Claire household that they too had begun acting on it.

Therefore, he had not displayed his objection at that time due to the Countess's quick thinking which had been a great help.

However, he had kept his thoughts a secret and never revealed them to even the King.

___

Earlier it was just the King who had been staring at the St. Claire family but now even the Duke had joined them.

This made Rutherford narrow his eyes as the Duke's gaze was straight on his beloved wife which had not sat well with him.

Yvonne too leered at the Duke whose unblinking gaze alternated between her and her mother.

Prince Fritzen who sat between the King and the Duke coughed lightly when he noticed their strange behavior.

'You will get in trouble if you continue any longer.' He shot his mother a gaze, who seemed to be clenching her jaw.

Queen Zena had been silent all along as she tried to make sense of and assimilate the information that she had obtained today.

However, this did not mean that she was pleased with her husband staring at another woman right in her presence.

Thankfully, the cough from the Prince had snapped them out of a daze and they each glanced at their respective spouse.

King Ophire shot his wife an appeasing smile while Duke Brodie only patted his wife's palm in assurance.

Earl Rutherford was quick to notice that they had stopped staring at his Raylene which brought a sigh of relief from him as well.

After everything that had taken place until now, the nobles had a lot on their minds which needed contemplation.

With silence returning to the room, they focused on their meal which by now had even gotten cold.

Thankfully, they had been at the end of their meal earlier so not much was lost.

When dessert arrived, Marquess Samed chose to take this chance to get back on his pupil's good side.

Therefore, as a peace offering, he slowly passed his plate over to her side.

Yvonne caught his actions from the corner of her eye but did not acknowledge him.

'Though I will not say no to extra dessert.' She scoffed before eating it without any remorse.

However, from beginning to end, she did not look his way or utter a word to him.

Marquess Samed had a pitiful look on his face which only fell onto Taylor's eyes.

The kind and considerate nephew patted his shoulder to comfort him.

However, he did not share his dessert with his uncle and ate it with gusto while Marquess Samed was left alone, drooling at the beautiful dessert which he could only sniff but not taste.

Prince Fritzen had succeeded in getting his father and the Duke out of trouble and since had been stealing glimpses at the child on another table.

Yvonne St. Claire was a name he could not forget even if he wished to.

The earlier conversation he had with her played in his mind followed by what he had witnessed here right now.

'It really is a good thing that I did not act against her.' He sighed as his father would have punished him if he had done so.

He now knew her merits which even the King appreciated, thus making him relieved to not have done anything outrageous to her.

However, at the thought of this, his spirits drooped along with his shoulders.

'Father is the least of my worries right now…' He soon grimaced as there was someone else who had already given him an earful for the tricks he had pulled today.

His Uncle had appeared out of nowhere when he had returned to his Palace after his encounter with the child.

{You have a lot to say, don't you, Frit? Why don't we see how well you perform in our practice match today?}

Those scary words echoed in the young Prince's ears, making him shudder in fear for what he would face later this evening.
