Chapter 717 - Jax's Conundrum
"Understood?"
Yvonne gulped down the entire contents of her glass and placed it aside before looking at the one standing before her.
Jax had a confused look on his face but still nodded his head in reply to her question.
"Be your second-in-command for CLOVER, follow your instructions, and don't reveal your true identity to anyone." He parroted the instructions he had received from his Boss.
After they had left the parlor, they had entered her bedroom where she proceeded to explain the tasks he would have to handle once he took on the position of her second-in-command.
She had done an excellent job in elaborating what she wanted for her business, how she planned to take it forward, and also when she was going to launch it into the noble market.
Jax had been able to keep up with most of it as they simply required adhering to her instructions and doing as she says.
'Which I'm already great at.' He commended himself for being a great Butler, not caring that he was tooting his own horn.
However, the last instruction she had given had caused him to stumble at the very end.
"Boss, how am I supposed to hide my identity?" He inquired without hiding his inability to comprehend what she meant by this statement.
Yvonne could not come before the public as the owner, VC, and neither could she put Jax at the front as quite a few people had seen him with her.
The Tanners, some other nobles who had seen her with Jax whenever she visited the Commercial District and even Jacob Kiron had seen this Butler serving her and following her.
Therefore, if they were to see Jax disclosing his new identity as the second-in-command, then wouldn't it be easy for them to make the connection between the two?
Keeping this matter in mind, Yvonne had asked him to be careful about his real identity which was of Jax, a commoner who served as her butler.
There were many commoners who ran businesses in the noble market but they needed to have the backing of a nobleman in order to gain the trust of their targeted audience.
Since CLOVER had been a stand-alone company from the very beginning, she had never planned on asking for any noble family's assistance in backing her up.
Instead, Yvonne had decided to employ another strategy that would allow Jax to enter the business sector of the nobles and also not cause any troubles due to his status as a commoner.
"You are going to simply conceal your appearance every time you step outside for CLOVER's business." She declared the brilliant plan she had come up with.
Since people already assumed that VC was a rich nobleman from the side branch of some noble family, there would be no reason why he could not hire a capable employee regardless of their status.
The 'noble' aspect required for the business had become the responsibility of the mysterious nobleman VC so the second-in-command need not be of noble descent.
The only issue that remained was his appearance as people had seen Jax around Yvonne and the St. Claire family too often.
"If we can conceal your stunning features then you can still mingle with others without attracting too much attention." She muttered to herself, making Jax blush at the compliments he had just received.
Yvonne did not find it wrong as she owned an entertainment company in her previous world and had a keen eye in this regard.
The first time she had seen Jax, he was smeared in dirt and blood but when they met again, she had been stunned speechless at the beauty he possessed.
This had been one of the reasons why her brother and father disliked him quite a lot in the beginning.
However, he had proven his worth by working hard which led them to drop their prejudices against him.
"Though your face can also be used to our advantage…" She continued mulling over how Jax could be beneficial to CLOVER.
If he was going to be the face of the company, a representative for VC, then she wished that his handsome face would be visible to all.
After all, no matter how much everyone tries to deny it, the world was indeed kinder to pretty people.
As a businesswoman, she would not mind utilizing his face to garner more attention to her brand.
"You want me to hide my face but also want me to show my face, Boss?" Jax was now thoroughly confused with what his Boss wanted from him.
One moment she revealed that he needed to cover his face up whenever he left this mansion, then she changed her own words and hoped that his face would gain more attention from the nobles.
Yvonne coughed at his words and realized that she had just contradicted herself.
"We'll find a solution for that later!" She averted her eyes and announced to not focus on this conundrum any longer.
There was still a lot of time before CLOVER could enter the noble market.
'Only after finalizing the plans with the Hagen family can we move forward.' She reminded herself while rubbing her chin.
This visit to the Valente fief would take place around her birthday which was a few weeks away so they would have time to solve the problem with Jax's appearance by then.
Once they returned to the Capital, they could begin the rest of the preparations needed to enter the noble market.
Jax only had to follow her instructions so he nodded his head, not bothering to concern himself with this any longer.
"My salary?" He added as soon as he was reminded about the most important part of the deal.
After hearing the plans his Boss had and also his role in this business, he was relieved that it did not sound too tedious.
Therefore, he was more than willing to get started as only then would he be paid.
However, he just realized that they had not discussed his salary until now which made him restless, and thus he had clamored his query.
Yvonne blinked her wide amethyst eyes at her Butler who did not seem to trust her words.
'It's not like I would make him work without paying him.' She scoffed before nodding, indicating that she would reveal it now.
"The same amount you are getting paid right now." She disclosed the salary she promised him in order to lure him earlier.
Jax widened his eyes as this was beyond what he had expected.
Working at the richest noble family in the Kingdom had its perks.
Every servant here was paid a hefty sum every month which was more than enough for their needs and left some for their savings as well.
Not to mention that every servant resided within the estate and did not have any requirement for such a high salary as their daily needs were taken care of in the family's budget managed by Butler Limo.
However, the St. Claires were generous and even gave them incentives at the end of every year.
For this reason, people who worked in this family were diligent and loyal, never wishing to leave this job as they would not find a better one anywhere.
The only other alternative in the Capital was the Royal Palace but even the servants there were nobles from a lower status.
Therefore, the servants here who were commoners were content with their life in the St. Claire mansion.
Jax felt his jaw drop at the mention of gaining the same salary for the second position in his Boss's company.
'One salary from the St. Claire's and one from Boss?' He gulped his saliva, grinning like a fool at the thought of the cash inflow coming his way very soon.
Yvonne snickered at this sight while shaking her head and while he was inattentive, her lips slowly curved to form a sly smirk.
'Let's see if you are still this happy after work finally begins.' She rolled her eyes as she would make sure to squeeze Jax to obtain her money's worth.
The little girl then did not disturb the young butler who was lost in his dreams of the sweet money he would be paid soon.
'Double salary for half the work.' He chuckled at the profitable deal he had made today.
Since he would be working as CLOVER's second-in-command then it was certain that his work in the St. Claire's household would be handled by someone else.
Yet he would be receiving full salary from this family and then once again from CLOVER which was making his heart flutter.
Sadly, what the young man did not realize was that he would soon have, not one but two hard taskmasters.
Butler Limo and Yvonne, who by no way would let him slack at either job.
