Chapter 767 - Excessive Protectiveness
While Yvonne was enjoying the sight of Silvia blushing as she stole glimpses at Taylor, the boys on the other side of the garden finally realized that someone in their group was now missing.
Howard was quick-witted enough to look in the direction where he was sure that the other boy would be.
'Heh!' He scoffed when he found the missing boy now standing happily in the group of girls.
Topher rolled his eyes at his younger brother who had snuck away when no one was paying any attention to him.
He did not mind that Taylor was now interacting with Yvonne St. Claire, in fact, Topher considered this to be a reward for his brother who had been working hard these last few days.
However, not everyone felt the same way after what they had just witnessed.
Especially Robin Zavanth who had his eyes narrowed in that same direction.
If earlier, he was leering at Yvonne who was mingling with his little sister then now, Taylor was at the receiving end of his death glare.
Without wasting another second, this annoyed elder brother stomped towards his only sister and Howard followed soon after.
'Are all brothers this bull-headed when it comes to their little sisters?' Topher wondered while shaking his head at the two scary individuals now making their way towards Taylor who was in the midst of the girls.
They both seemed to bear a grudge against his brother but how could he allow someone else to attack his prey?
Therefore, the 'caring' elder brother also headed in the same direction with the intention of 'protecting' that troublemaker from the two furious elder brothers coming his way.
___
Yvonne was having a pleasant conversation with Aleena, Silvia, and even Taylor when she sensed people moving in their direction.
The young boy was the first to turn around and his happy smile froze when he saw who it was that had come to interrupt his time with his Vonny.
Howard could decipher what the thoughts in his best friend's mind were which caused him to glower at him.
'You think that I will let you succeed?' He sneered when he reached their location, squeezing himself between Taylor and his sister.
Yvonne shook her head at their petty quarrels which had commenced once again.
However, when she sensed someone else doing the same on her other side, she was perplexed.
Taylor and Howard were to her left so who could be this person that had forced themself in the space between her and Silvia?
This action had garnered the attention of others as well, making them turn to take a look.
Thus everyone's eyes were currently on Robin Zavanth, the heir of the Zavanth fief and also the one who was now standing between Silvia and Yvonne.
The little girl with amethyst hair shot him a puzzled gaze which he ignored as he smiled while speaking to his baby sister.
Even Howard felt that Robin was being excessive right now, after all, he was only guarded against any boys who tried to get close to Vonny.
However, Robin was a level higher as he was guarded not only against the young boys but also against the young girls who seemed to be friendly with his sister.
Meanwhile, Topher, from beginning to the end, only rolled his eyes at the boys who were here.
Not one of them had a functioning brain when it came to their sisters and this was something he was already confident about from years of witnessing similar sights.
While Robin ignored the girls and only focused on his siblings, Silvia and Tatum, Yvonne's brothers did the same to her.
It was as though they were competing to show who cared most about their sister and in the process, the two friends who had met after a long time were being separated from each other.
Silvia shot an apologetic smile to Yvonne who shook her head, gesturing that she did not mind.
They had been pen-pals before the plague had begun so they could just go back to doing the same now that they were both in the Capital.
Surprisingly, Silvia understood the gestures that Yvonne had just made thanks to the time she spent with Tatum, trying to interpret his babbling words and strange gesticulations.
Just as she was about to nod her head in reply, a commotion diverted their attention.
This group of children turned towards the entrance of the garden where a new family had just arrived.
Aleena and Rika excused themselves as they would have to greet the newcomers and Jacob seemed to have done the same from wherever he was.
"Isn't that Marquess and Marchioness Jorbin?" Isadora, the youngest daughter of the Carter family who had joined this group a short while back muttered while looking at the family who was now greeting the Kiron family members.
"Is she even a Marchioness?" Cecily's derisive words were spoken in a low volume but everyone heard it since they were standing at such close distance from each other.
Topher Tanner was the first to glare at the insolent words he heard from the girl who was the same age as him.
"Miss Yona should already know that their marriage is approved by the law of our Kingdom so your words might be counted as being disrespectful towards the King's decisions." He dictated in a stern tone which resulted in Cecily lowering her head.
She sulked as she had only repeated what her mother and the other ladies often spoke so why was she being reprimanded for saying it out loud?
'Everyone is thinking that!' She stood by her words in the depths of her heart, believing that she was right and Topher was wrong.
However, she would rather bury this thought in her heart as going against Topher Tanner was not something her parents would tolerate.
They were already furious when she caused a scene at the Tanner tea party then refused to attend the party hosted by the Carter family.
Therefore, she was treading on thin ice right now and did not wish to get herself in trouble.
Yvonne had been observing her from the side and had caught the unwilling look on Cecily's face which indicated that she wasn't remorseful in the least bit.
Averting her gaze, she scanned her surroundings and as Cecily had said, many of the noble wives had sour looks on their faces when they saw the entire Jorbin family making their appearance here today.
To them, Marchioness Jorbin was not one of them and no matter how many times some of the other ladies tried to change their minds, they could never fully accept her as one of their own.
The lady who had married into the Jorbin family was nothing but a foreigner who had seduced the young and talented Marquess Jorbin.
While rumors about the great love between that couple were widespread, she was just an outsider who did not deserve to hold the same status as them.
In the same way, they did not think too highly of the children born from that woman who was not from Rosenhyde.
However, what could they do, after all, not only was Marquess Jorbin someone with a high title but he was also a member of the King's Council of Ministers.
Thus they could only display their dissatisfaction when he was not around.
At tea parties, Marchioness Jorbin was often neglected, treating her as though she did not exist and in the same way, her words did not mean a thing to them.
This had caused her to stay away from them for a very long time but through Duchess Beatrice Tanner's initiative, she had reconnected with the ladies a while ago.
The plague had halted all social events but now that everyone was back, safe and sound, Marchioness Jorbin had come to attend a party hosted by Marchioness Kiron, someone who was a good friend of the Duchess.
Yvonne sneered at the ladies whose lips were curved downwards when they saw the Jorbin couple heading inside to greet the other guests present here today.
Not just women, some men too had disapproving eyes while they were watching this scene.
'Just because someone is a little different doesn't mean that they are bad.' She disagreed with the public opinion that Marchioness Jorbin, who was a foreigner, was not fit to join their social circles.
While she was still thinking of the rumors she had heard from her tutor about this situation, she saw something moving from the corner of her eye.
Before she knew it, this 'something' had already reached her position but displayed no signs of halting.
In the next moment, a sudden force collided with her causing her to gasp as she stumbled sideways before she could even recognize what had hit her.
