Chapter 439 439: The Northern Campaign IX
Cole hated hospitals, the very idea of a place people go to die did not sit well with him. There was no place with more death than a battlefield and a hospital, it always felt to bleak and dark to him, a darkness that he did not understand and had no intention of understanding.
Razor's chest rose and fell rhythmically. It was almost as if he was just asleep, but that was not that case. This was a shell, the real Razor was gone, his soul sundered and scattered to the winds, or so he thought.
"Can you repeat that Peronico?" Cassandra asked as she lifted the gnome up from the ground, with a frantic and pleading look on her face.
"Young master Razor is a rather accomplished alchemist, and his budding thesis on molecular transmutation and cross dimensional translocation is cutting edge. And when you factor in the fact that he hasn't had access to these knowledge for long, you'd do know we're dealing with an absolute genius...a True Lord of magic.
Honestly how this dump of a universe can have so many talented people is baffling to me. What did your parents feed you kids as a child…..hell what am I saying, some of. You freaks are actually the parents themselves.
Either way, Razor has learnt how to strengthen his soul, give it armor if you will. He also learnt how to split it, an extremely painful process but one that can serve as your trump card. A clone of yourself that's actually yourself but existing simultaneously in the same space, the same reality...the boy is a genius.
And a cheat, because every experience, level growth or skill acquisition one gets, the other automatically has. Improving at twice the pace. His technique is so refined there is no scars left on the soil afterwards, in fact the soul would heal up to cover the parts missing, while the part cut off would grow to match the soul.
He will be fine, the soul that perished was one of his cast offs. But in essence that is still him, himself dying. That kind of trauma will shake the foundations of the soul, hard enough that it can cost lasting damage to his psych. What he needs now is to be allowed to recover.
This is the reason why you found him comatose and not dead. Right now his soul, not his body is repairing itself. And he unfortunately does not have a technique like [Demonic Constitution] to help his souls. "
Cassandra crashed backwards letting go of Peronico as Dragon caught and steadied her. The look of relief on her face was palpable, she turned, burying her face into Dragon's chest as she cried.
Cole did not say anything about that, the both of them would have to deal with the aftermath of this once Razor wakes up. The problem is no one knew just how long that would take. Cole hoped the three of them worked things out, there was a way for all three of them to come out happy, it would probably come at the cost of some really tough words, but they just had to be willing to be a family, not just a woman and her boyfriend with her son….. assuming that made sense?
Cole turned away and left the room, his mind was still full, Razor wasn't fully out of danger, but there was a chance, even if he might come out with a broken mind at the end of the tunnel, as long as he was alive and back to them, then it was for the best.
Now they just had to get Peronico back to the Collegium, more for his safety than anything else. With the world Council still after the Cole family and their assets, Peronico was a prize he didn't think they would let go.
But then again the Gnome was more than capable of taking care of himself. He would not be as limited as they would expect, he was a part of the Collegium, and this was building that existed simultaneously in Raen Valley and on earth. So technically he could be considered a resident and the restrictions on him would not be as much, hence it would probably be a massacre.
Cole left this hospital, the sound of thunder and lightning welcoming him as Rain poured out from the sky with a fury. Cole turned around, noticing the other 11 members of the zodiac and their leader Dragon on their knees.
It was a testament to their abilities that Cole had not heard them coming, never the less he knew why Dragon was here….. there ought to be a reckoning.
"I have nothing to say in my defense Lord Cole, I just ask that you be lenient on Cassandra. We both found something…. Someone that made the other feel complete. We got so lost in our love…we-I should have done better."
Cole looked at him impassively, he could feel Delarosa stir and extricate herself from his shadow. She turned her back to her brother and took a similarly kneeling position.
"Please Master…..mercy."
Cole sighed, he was angry and he was going to punish Dragon and Cassandra. But not for their love, shit like that couldn't be helped, no this was a scandal of sorts. And Raen Valley had grown to the point where the perception of the people was important in leading, and both of them held officers of power.
So there had to be a certain amount of 'administrative admonishment'. Guess even Raen Valley was not free from politics like Cole hoped. Well it didn't matter anyways, a little chaos within themselves should be another Monday for the Raens.
"You and Cassandra are suspended until further notice. You both will spend that time looking after Razor, if he doesn't wake up, you both don't come back. I don't want to see your face or even a hint of your shadow until then…..but make sure-you guys don't go to far, so move to the Valley Permanently.
The rest of the Zodiacs can make the move with you, a you guys already have jobs to do there anyways. So get to it, there isn't going to be a need for you guys to be around here anymore."
"But it's our job to protect you! We can't leave you defenseless sir!" Dragon spoke up, completely disagreeing with Cole.
He could understand his punishment and frankly speaking it was nothing more than a slap on the wrist, Cole was giving him and Cassandra a chance to make it up to Razor and try to be more.
But Dragon knew his purpose, and that was to protect Cole. And having the rest of the zodiac absent for his protection was denying them their purpose. With how they have all been trained, this was a fate worse than death.
"Jeez don't get your panties in a twist. I've decided to move to Raen Valley fully. I'll be moving from there to whatever floor, without having to come log in every time. I just have a few things that I need to take care of first, and then I'll be right there. You guys can continue guarding me from there, besides id have Delarosa with me." Cole said to them, before raising an eyebrow at Dragon and inclining his head to the side telling him to get out. The rest of the Zodiacs followed behind him as Cole was left standing alone in the rain with Delarosa besides him.
Soon the sounds of two sets of footsteps could be heard as his Aunt and brother made themselves know. Following behind them was Neral, while Delarosa stood besides him.
"Well then…..since we're in the mood, let's to get some revenge!"
