Chapter 770 Give Up on Your Vain Hope

Hearing that, Evan raised his brow. “Oh, is that so? Great. I, too, believe that you wouldn’t harass Jenny.”

“Mr. Clarke, you have a wild imagination.” Alec scoffed and left, not willing to speak to him any longer. Evan smiled at the sight and went to Jenny’s office.

It was close to noon, and Jenny was done seeing all her patients scheduled in the morning. She said, “Evan, good timing! I’m about to get off work.”

“Nice. Let’s have lunch together?” He beamed, and she nodded. She brought him to the cafeteria, her attitude vastly different from when she dined with Derrick Clearwater. Evan didn’t mind cafeteria food as long as he was with Jenny.

At noon, the cafeteria was bustling with hospital staff who weren’t close to Jenny but recognized her nonetheless. They looked at Jenny and Evan with curiosity and wondered about their relationship.

Jenny ignored the eyes on them and searched for a table with Evan. Meanwhile, Derrick glared at the two of them. He had harbored suspicion about their relationship, and his guess was proven right. He finally understood the reason behind Jenny’s rejection-she had chosen the other guy over him. However, he was clueless about Evan’s background and wondered if Evan was one of the members of the Ten Elites. If so, he would never stand a chance against his rival.

The thoughts troubled him. His average background frustrated him, unlike Jenny and Evan, who were born into wealth.

While he was ruminating and grumbling, someone appeared in front of him. “Derrick Clearwater, why are you here alone? I thought you were going after Jenny Walter. Why is she having lunch with another

man?”

“McKenna Poole!” he hissed, knowing she was mocking him. She smiled even brighter at his angry outburst. “You have to know your place even if you want to be a social climber. Did you seriously think you are good enough for the Walters?”

McKenna harbored resentment toward Jenny after learning that Derrick was pursuing her romantically. Therefore, she went to her dad and requested that he come up with an idea to get Jenny fired. However, she decided not to pursue the idea after she learned about Jenny’s identity from her dad.

Even though Dr. Poole was a respected director of a hospital department, he was nothing compared to the Walters. McKenna refrained from giving Jenny trouble out of fear of implicating the Pooles. Moreover, after she learned about Jenny’s family background, she was confident that Jenny would never be interested in Derrick.

When she dropped by the cafeteria, she found a handsome man with an unusual air on him sitting across from Jenny. She beamed when she noticed Derrick sulking in a corner-he was gritting his teeth in silence.

She put on a fake front and comforted him, “Give up on your vain hope. Jenny Walter is living in a world different from ours. She’s working here out of passion. But what about you? You’re only here because you need to earn a living.”

The difference between Jenny and Derrick was unbridgeable despite all his best efforts. He rolled his fists begrudgingly but finally relaxed his grip after a while. “You’re right.”

McKenna smiled after seeing his act of resignation. “There’s a good movie showing in the theaters. Do you want to watch it tonight?”

He was surprised by her advance and looked at her quizzically. Earlier, he had attempted to pursue her with the thought of marriage. However, she was rather aloof to him back then. Why did she undergo such a huge change in attitude?
