Jenny wanted to say that she had no intention of threatening him, but then Evan pulled her towards him. “Jenny is under my protection now. You can’t pick on her like that.”
“Oh, so you’re protecting her already.” Gilbert smirked. “Alright, alright. You’ll protect her.”
Jenny was a little embarrassed, but she smiled, saying nothing.
After the meal, Gilbert sent Jenny home. As for Evan, he returned to Walter Inc. If he agreed to do something, he would do it to his best ability.
He wanted everyone to see his strengths so that everyone would know that he was capable and worthy of Jenny.
After a whole day’s worth of shopping, Jenny was exhausted. She wanted to take a nap, but her phone rang.
It was Alec. She was stunned and didn’t reach out for the phone. Yesterday’s incident was still fresh in her mind. She remembered what Stephanie had said. She had to calm down. Thus, she did not intend to pick upThankfully, the call ended quickly, and Alec no longer called again. Jenny sighed in relief. She didn’t know what to say to Alec right now. It just felt so awkward.
On the other side of the city, Alec looked at his phone. Jenny had not picked up. He could guess what she was thinking, so he didn’t chase after her relentlessly. It was good to give her some time to think about it.
At that thought, he put his phone away and continued working.
At night, James drove back to Windsor Villa. He saw someone standing at the entrance.
He drove toward it and stopped in front of the person. He got out of the car.
“James…” Jolene looked at him, biting her lip.
James couldn’t describe what he felt when he saw her, but there were no changes in his expression. “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you already be out of the country?”
“I gave it another thought and decided to stay because I couldn’t bear to leave you,” Jolene said.
Doubt flashed through James’ eyes, but mostly, he felt sardonic. “You were clamoring to leave, but now you suddenly want to stay. Do you think I’m a clown, Jolene?”
“I…I don’t mean it that way.” Jolene shook her head quickly. “I only want to stay with you because I like you.”
“You think you can leave and stay whenever you want. What do you take this place as? A hotel?” He smiled coldly. There was no warmth in his eyes. Jolene grew anxious.
She had chosen to stay because Rowena, after hearing the entire story of how James let her leave, deduced that James had feelings for her. If she didn’t want to leave, she would choose to stay.
It was a gamble. Jolene knew it very clearly, but she still wanted to give it a shot. She used to think that James had no feelings for her at all. She saw no hope for her here, and she would live a happier life with her mother outside of the country.
However, after listening to Rowena, she suddenly thought that James could have feelings for her. If she put in the effort, she might be able to make James fall in love with her.
Because of that, she chose to stay.
“So why aren’t you leaving?” James looked at her scornfully. She gritted her teeth. “Because I like you.”
James smiled coldly. He was no fool. If that were the case, Jolene would not have insisted on leaving before.
There had to be another reason. One that he did not know yet.
