Chapter 420 It’s Not Chicken Egg, But It’s Still Delicious. Also, Mukouda Levels Up
“Wow, they worked really well.”
While thinking about what to make for dinner, I observed how the Vampire Mosquitoes just fall out of the sky as they approached us. Their fallen bodies disappeared and were replaced by more Drop items once they, er, expired.
“We’ve already picked up so many Drop items, but even more are piling up outside…” I muttered.
“”Aruji~ should I pick them up~?””
“Thank you, Sui~ But there’s no need.”
By the way, the Drop items from Vampire Mosquitoes were wings, its straw-shaped mouth, and some kind of liquid in a small bottle. We found out through Appraisal that it was some kind of paralytic poison.
Since it was only a D Rank monster, the value of the Drop items was not very good. Whatever Sui had picked up earlier was enough for me. As for the rest, it’s fine to just leave them there. The dungeon would reabsorb the items eventually, anyway.
“Right, let’s get back to dinner making. Shall we use the Gigantic Minotaur meat again?”
““Yes!!””
“Hmm… I really want to have Oyakodon, it’s been a while since I had it. I wonder, is it possible to make it with Gigantic Minotaur meat? Wait, if that’s the case, wouldn’t it be [8] Tanindon rather than Oyakodon?”
“What are you mumbling about over there?” grumbled Fer.
“Well, Oyakodon is parent-child ricebowl, with egg and bird meat. However, a Tanindon would be other meat with egg in a ricebowl!” I explained.
“Whatever, just hurry up!”
“”Yeah, I’m hungry!””
“”Sui is hungry too~””
Ah well, I guess they did work hard on the 38th floor.
“This won’t take long, so just wait a bit, alright?”
After purchasing the ingredients I needed from [Net super], I got started on the Tanindon. The process of making Oyakodon and Tanindon is pretty similar, although the sauce for Tanindon is more sweet than savoury.
Personally, I like sweet flavours in my Tanindon. Especially the beef bowl types.
“First, finely slice the onions and Gigantic Minotaur meat… Fer, you’ll get in my way if you sit there!”
Fer was sitting almost next to my feet and drooling. Dora-chan was clinging to his neck, drooling as well. They were both staring at the meat.
When I insisted that their presence would just slow me down, my familiars finally moved away.
Even so, I was bombarded with telepathic messages of ‘I want meat! Lot’s of meat!’
“Yes, yes, I know.”
After casting a bitter smile at them, I continued slicing the Gigantic Minotaur meat. I would need a lot of it!
“Right, this much should do it,” I muttered to myself.
Next, I cracked the eggs into a large bowl and beat it lightly, just enough to break up all the yolks. Since I have a lot of meat, I’ll have to have lots of eggs too.
Next, let’s make the sauce. In a frying pan, place water, dashi soy sauce, mirin, and sugar and heat it until it’s boiling. Once it reached a roiling boil add the onions and sliced meat.
While it simmered, remove whatever scum that floated to the top. Once the onions and meat have cooked through, add half a portion of the beaten eggs and reduced the heat to low.
When the eggs had firmed up, add the other half. This way, I’ll have some nicely firm, almost pudding-like texture from the first batch of eggs, but a creamy texture from the second batch of half-cooked eggs.
Once the topping was done, I scooped cooked white rice into bowls and ladled the dripping, creamy, and meaty beef and egg combination on top. Woah, it looks really good!
“Yosh, the Tanindon is done!”
“Umu, give it here now.”
“Goodness, I keep telling you guys to wait, but…”
My familiars have all crept closer and all but snuggling against the stove.
“”It’s your fault for taking so long!””
“No way, it didn’t take long at all!”
“”Aruji~~ Food~~?””
“Ah~ Sui-tan~ Have some special Tanindon~~”
I served up the first set of Tanindon to my familiars.
“Hmm, hmm, this is not bad. The raw eggs with meat last time were delicious, but cooked eggs are good too.”
“”Yeah! The eggs are fluffier here, and the sweet and savoury sauce makes everything go well.””
“”It’s delicious with rice~””
Fufufu, rice bowl dishes are great. Especially when topped with eggs. White rice is might!
Leftover stir-fried vegetables from the fridge could be delicious too when simmered in sauce and eggs and served on rice. As for leftover fried food like tempura, once you heat them up in a sweet and savoury sauce, it makes for a luxurious ricebowl dish.
Still, ricebowl topped with eggs is the best.
[9] “Umu, you were saying the name of this dish is Tanindon? What an odd name.”
“”What’s the difference between this one and the other one you’re mumbling about just now?”” asked Dora-chan.
“Well,” I said, eager to explain. “Oyakodon is called ‘oyako’ or ‘parent-child’ because it’s made from bird meat and eggs. Because birds lay eggs and both are served together on rice. Making it ‘Oyakodon’.”
“”Sounds morbid, but fun. I like!””
“Ahem, in Tanindon, ‘tanin’ means strangers or other people.”
“Fumu, you cook with people?”
“No, no, ‘tanin’ just means ‘others’, so other meats besides chicken, er, bird meat.”
“”Aruji~ can Tanindon be made other meat?””
“Yes, of course, Sui. It could be made with cow or pig meat, er, from Bloody Horn Bull, Dungeon Cow, Dungeon Pig or even Orcs.”
“Sounds, good, I want seconds made with a different meat.”
“”Better yet, make them all with different types of meat so that we can compare!””
“What the- hey, why are you giving me trouble again?”
“Didn’t you say that it’s not a troublesome dish? Just make lots of the same dish with different meat.”
“”Yeah!””
“Ugh, now? I have, some pre-sliced Dungeon Beef and Dungeon Pork, you can only pick from one of these for the next round.”
“Make it with both.”
““Yeah! Both!””
Thus, for their Seconds and Thirds, I made Dungeon Beef Tanindon and Dungeon Pork Tanindon.
Since they insisted on tasting and comparing…
Well, anyway, once the tasting was over and I asked them which one they like best, the answer was:
“They are all good.”
“”I know, right?””
“”Everything Aruji makes is delicious~~””
If that’s the case, you could have just eaten Gigantic Minotaur meat only, you know? Well, I guess this way is fine too, and I get to save some Minotaur meat for future use.
The next day.
After breakfast, my familiar relaxed with a bowl of fruit milk while I settled down with a coffee.
Meanwhile, Vampire Mosquitoes that had not been felled by the mosquito coils were buzzing quite a bit further away. Any that dared to approach us eventually collapsed to the floor and died.
These mosquito coils are just too good.
I should get insecticides that work against flies, centipedes, spiders, bees and other insect-type monsters and keep them in my [Item Box]. Since the dungeon had started to display these ‘field-type’ dungeons, I should at least mentally prepare myself to see all sorts of different types of monsters.
As I finished the last of my coffee, I noticed Fer staring at me.
“What is it Fer?”
“You levelled up quite a lot.”
“Eh, really?! Let me check my status.”
A little excitedly, I called [Status Open].

“Wh- whaat?!”
Level 85, what?!
The last time I checked, I was at Level 78. I actually went up by 7 levels? How?
Wait, did all the D Rank Vampire Mosquitoes I took down with the mosquito coil count as well?
That’s… that’s not impossible, especially if I consider the Double Experience Points Collected skill from the god.
Still, Level 85 is quite a huge achievement…
Now that I have exceeded Level 80, the ‘+1’ has now appeared next to my [Net Super] skill.
Once I returned to the ground level, things would get really troublesome soon…
A new tenant shop… ahh, my head hurts just thinking about it…
[Gumihou: Hum, a nice dungeon cooking story.]
Eguchi Rem: We have now adopted Kirimi-san’s Tanindon recipe!

Oyako – Parent+child
Tanin – Stranger
Instead of Oyako don (Parent Child Ricebowl), let’s make (Stranger Ricebowl)
https://www.justonecookbook.com/tanindon/
Tanin (??) literally means “outsider, stranger, or unrelated person” in Japanese language, so tanin-don is a playful reference to oyakodon (oyako means “parent and child”). Contrary to oyakodon, which uses chicken and egg, tanindon is made with egg and an unrelated meat, which is beef (or pork).
